Chapter Four | Little Devil Puppy
He had watched her eat every last thing on that plate. His stare had both caused her to feel uncomfortable and comforted at the same time, and that confused her. She did not understand the feelings she had gotten from him, but she could not deny that he was attractive. Her father had taught her about finding a person attractive and how a person’s looks can affect you, but she never thought that she would meet someone that would affect her in that way, and she was embarrassed about it.
And then there were the sparks that went through her body when she touched him. His skin was so soft that she had almost wrapped her arms around him completely in a hug. She missed the human touch, she craved it as it had been so long, but she was also so afraid of him. Of this very man that will not stop staring at her as if she would suddenly disappear.
But that still did not explain the burning questions that she wanted to throw at him. She had too many questions to count but could only think of one while she tucked her legs up to her chest again for comfort. “What... What was that feeling when I touched you?”
His eyes lightened up, his body moving forward so that his arms could sit on top of his crossed legs. “That was the mate bond. Every mate gets it when they find each other.”
“But... But I do not know what a mate is.” She whispered, her face falling while she tried to remember if her father had actually told her about mates. “My papa never told me.”
He closed his eyes, a soft chuckle escaping his lips while he shook his head. “That is... you are adorable.” He laughed before he stood and offered his hand again. “Everyone has a mate. A mate is your soulmate, your other half. Once you find each other, you cannot live without them. Some people have died because their mate refused to be with them, others have shut down.”
“Shut down? Died?” She panicked, trying to back herself against the wall that she was leaning against. Her eyes were wide as he flinched.
“I should not have said that.” He mumbled while he ran his fingers through his hair. “The mate bond is not something to fear. It is not something that you should run from or be afraid of. It is something you embrace. It helps people fall in love with each other. It helps two soulmates find their purpose.”
She felt her heart slow down at his words, her breath hitching as she finally stood. His body towered over her like she was an ant while she hugged her arms to her chest. She wished that she could understand what he was saying, she wished that she was not so naive to the world as her father would say, but she was. Her feet slowly came near him as she reached out and touched him again.
Pulling back in shock, her wide silver eyes stared at her fingers. Her lips were slightly ajar while Harvey stood and watched her reaction. “I do not understand.” She muttered, reaching out to touch him again as electricity shot through from the contact. “How is this possible?”
“It is called a mate bond. We are meant to be together; we were designed to be together.”
“Why would he not have told me about this?” She questioned herself as she wrapped her arms back around her body. “What else is there?”
He shrugged, taking her hands in his while she stared at the contact and shook at the sparks that erupted. “I can never try to comprehend the confusion that you are going through, and I will not try to. Any questions that you have, I will happily answer, but for now, I need to take you to my pack to get checked over. Okay?”
“Your Pack?”
He nodded. “A Pack is where a whole bunch of people live together, like a community. We are a community, and we help each other survive, just like how your dad helped you. A Pack is your home.”
“Okay.” She muttered, her eyes going towards her small hole before she looked back up at him again. “What if my papa comes back and I am not here?”
“He will be able to follow your scent just like I can.”
Her mind slowly went through her options. Bella had already figured that she would get in trouble because of being caught by the wolves, and now she is voluntarily going to follow one. Her eyes stared into his brown ones before she smiled. “I am ready.”
Her smile had seemed to catch him off guard as his lips parted, his eyes staring at her own lips while his eyes darkened. Shaking it off in his own daze, he tugged her so that she would start walking. “I never told you my name.”
“It is Harvey.” She responded, cutting him off as his eyes darkened yet again from her saying his name. “I heard the others talking about you. Something about creaming yourself. I do not know what that means.”
He paused in his steps, her body bumping into his back with a grunt while she rubbed her forehead with a pout. “Fucking Jesse and his per-” he stopped talking, his eyes watching her while she stared up in complete innocence. “Just ignore what he had said. It means nothing.”
“Okay, Harvey.”
A small growl escaped him, his eyes closing as if he was trying to control something while she backed away from him. Small sounds of pounding feet coming towards them snapped him out of it, but it was too late. Bella did not get the chance to react as a small body threw itself at her. Her body landed on the ground with a loud yelp of surprise while the small body began to lick her face violently.
Her hands dug into soft hair as she began to giggle. The baby wolf started to wag its tail at the sound while she started to run her fingers through the hair. Its own dirty brown hair was super soft and silky as she rolled so that the small puppy was in her lap.
“Kyra!” Harvey growled, the puppy lifting its head up to look at him before it stuck its small tongue out and stayed in her lap. “Mum said you had to stay home when I came out here.”
The puppy whined. Bella frowned, her eyes as she looked down to realise that this small puppy was actually a Werewolf. Her heart began to race as panic set in. The child’s eyes now turned to her before it got out of her lap and sat down in confusion.
“It... It is another Werewolf... ” Bella yelped, backing away while Harvey pulled something out of a tree and threw it at the puppy. The animal went behind a tree next before a small dressed little girl came out with a toothless grin.
“Man, she is scared. I cannot wait to mess with this one, Harv!”
“You will not mess with her, Kyra! You leave her alone!”
“Gez, fine! Okay, I will leave this one alone.” She surrendered with both of her hands up in the air. “Is she your mate or something?”
Harvey nodded, Bella still backing away before her back hit a tree. “Yes, now, if you excuse me, I am taking her to the Pack doctor.”
Kyra pouted, her long brown hair flopping around her small head as her golden-brown eyes latched onto Bella’s silver ones. “You are pretty. When you finally stop being a pussy, I want you to help me prank my brothers.” And with that said, she skipped away in the direction that they were heading.
Bella felt the tree with her hands while she gasped at the child and moved her eyes towards Harvey. “Who... Who was that?”
“My seven-year-old sister, Kyra.”
