The Alphas Wonder Land Phoenix Mountain Book 9

Chapter 18

DAMICA

To be honest, I’m handling this whole thing a lot better than I thought I would.

Maybe it’s because this whole thing is nuts and I’ve already been living in crazy town for so long, it’s just easier to accept.

I’m surrounded by shifters, creatures I thought lived in my head, and I’m not the least bit scared. With two exceptions.

Zander may seem like a nice guy, but if his doppelganger is any indication, he could not be real quick. That terrifies me.

Then there’s Jake. He may not be Miracle here, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be.

These two men built the gates of the hell I know and shoved me through them.

They show no mercy and are deadly. They’re Zetas and made sure everyone knew it. I know in my heart, this impressive city could be destroyed just as quick as in the mirror land.

As if I was still there, seeing them triggered all kinds of memories.

“Rex. Where we going?” I hug my rabbit tight.

“Just stay close to me, kid, ok?” He says as we’re unloaded off a truck.

He lifts me off the truck bed and holds my hand.

Men towered around me as we were marched at gun point to the prison unit of Falcon Ridge.

I start to whimper as I look at soldiers with huge guns stand on guard.

Rex quickly stops and picks me up. “It’s OK. Don’t be scared. I’m here.” I bury my face in his neck.

We stop at a large fenced in area. There’s already a lot of people inside.

“Hand over the kid.” One guard demands.

I whine and hug Rex’s neck harder. “Not a chance.” He growls. “She stays with me.”

“Fine, but if she gets killed in there, it’s on you.” The guard snarls back and shoves Rex into the cage.

“Rex, how the fuck are we getting out of this.” Greg says low as we join hundreds in the lock up yard.

Rex turns to him. “First. Watch your language.” He glares at him as he motions to me. “Second, I’m thinking.”

He grabs Rex and turns us around. “You better think quick.” He points to an area where soldiers are piling the bodies of men.

He grabs my head and covers it from the sight. It was too late, I was already terrified.

“I’ll think of something.” He grits.

We push through people all thinking up their own plans of escape.

A fight broke out close to us. People started yelling and screaming as several men fought. I started to cry.

“Ok, baby girl. Ok.” He quickly moved away from the fight to a quiet corner of the yard.

He sat me down on the ground. He raised my tear soaked, scared face to his. He moved my hair and wiped my tears.

He smiled. “Hey, remember. Fighters have to be brave, right?”

“Right.” I squeak.

“So are you going to be a brave fighter?” Rex asks.

“Ok.” I hitch.

“Good because bunny needs a big, strong fighter to protect him and I think, you, Miss Dami are that fighter.” He poked my belly which made me laugh.

He settled in beside me and put his giant arms on his knees. He leaned back on the fence. “Damica, I’m so sorry. The last thing I wanted was for you to be in this with us. We did this to ourselves, you don’t deserve this. I’m sorry, kid.” He looks down at me.

I look up at him. “It’s Ok, Rex. Can I see mommy soon?”

He pets the back of my head. “As soon as I can get you there.”

“Rex…Rex!”

We both look up. Stu, one of Rex’s pack members, pushed his way through to us. “What is it?”

“It’s Miracle.”

Rex stands up and he grabs me. He picks me up. “Take me to him.”

We follow Stu, weaving in and out around the crowd, we get to the fence where we came in and Miracle was on the other side of the chain link.

“Miracle?” Rex was confused.

“Hey, Rex.” He puts his hands in his pockets.

Rex looks at the guards processing more prisoners then back at Miracle.

“What’s going on?” He grits.

Miracle lifts his chin. “Repairing bridges.”

Rex hands me to Stu. “What the hell does that mean? What is this?” He eyes Miracle as he growls.

“What’s it look like? I’m out here and you’re in there.” He smirks.

“You sold us out. You ran to Zander didn’t you?” Rex throws his hands onto the chain link fence.

Miracle chuckles. “Well, you have to admit, being on the good side of my brother is a lot better than being against him.”

Rex’s eyes glow. “I’ll kill you, you son of a bitch!” He pushes and hits in the fence. It scared me.

Miracles eyes turn solid black. “You can try, but I’m sure it will be me killing you.” He steps closer to the fence. “My brother wants the girl.”

“Not happening.” Rex clenched his teeth.

“You know Zander doesn’t take no for answer, Rex. He is the King. So, if you don’t want him to use his sword and separate your head, hand her over.” Miracle warns.

I’m trying to be a brave fighter, but I let out a whimper.

Miracle smiles. “It’s OK, little girl. We won’t hurt you.”

Rex steps in front of him. “Don’t talk to her.”

“Rex, you may see me as a Judas now, but you might want to rethink your position here.” He steps close. “If you value your life and the lives of your pack. Join us or die.” Miracles lips threaten a snarl.

“Never.” Rex grits.

Miracle chuckles. “Always the hero. Heroes fall, my friend, and when they do, they fall hard.

He raises his hand and crooks two fingers.

We turn and six guards breached the crowd behind Stu and myself. They aimed their weapons. “The girl!”

“REX!” I shout as they try to rip me from Stu hands.

“Let go of her!” Stu fights, pulling me back and grabbing the arms off me.

I’m screaming in the struggle. Others try to help only to be beaten down.

“Don’t fucking touch her! I’ll fucking kill you! Let her go!” Rex tries to reach for me, but he’s contained by more guards. They surround him and he pushes back. His face full of anger and fear.

“REX!!!” I cry out as I’m ripped out of Stu's arms and he’s hit in the head by a gun. “REX! HELP ME!”

“DAMICA!!” He screams as he tries to punch his way out of the guards. “DAMICA! I’LL SAVE YOU! I’LL SAVE YOU!! DAMICA!!”

“REX!!” I reach for him, crying my little eyes out. In the struggle, I dropped my rabbit.

I watch the gates close and Rex slammed against it with the rabbit. “DAMICA!!!”

“MOMMY!!!”

My eyes shoot open.

I look around the room I’m in. I forgot where I was.

I sit up and look at the white moon. It’s not the blue moon I saw every night for three weeks. Ok. I’m in Sawyers house.

I pull up my knees and wipe my wet cheeks.

I rub the back of my neck.

That was just the beginning. The start of my horrifying experience in the dark, blue land.

One thing I’m grateful for is that Rex made good on his promise. Too bad it made him public enemy number one.

High King Commander Maximus doesn’t take no for an answer and the longer he had me, the longer he was in danger. I had to go home.

“Ok, Dami. Look. Your rainbow bed. See it?”

I nod. “Yes.”

He smiles and moves my hair out of my face. “Maybe one day I can come back. Would you like that?”

“Yeah.” I smile and hug the rabbit.

“Ok, but it won’t be through here. Once you’re through, I’m smashing the mirror so no bad guys can come through, ok?”

“But how you visit me?” I mumble.

“I'll find you, little girl. Don’t worry about that, ok. I’ll find you.” He hugs me. “You’re the bravest fighter I know.” He pushed me back. “I’m gonna miss ya, kid.” His face looked like has was happy and sad.

“I miss you too, Rex.” I say in my tiny voice.

“Ok. You have to hurry.” He sticks a hand in the mirror and ripples.

I throw my little arms around his neck. “Bye, Rex.”

He wraps his large arm around me and hugs me tight. “Bye, baby girl.”

“STOP!”

Our heads whip to the door. The sounds of heavy boots running up the steps fast, makes me panic.

“Rex?” I look at him.

“It’s OK. I’ll be fine. Go Damica. Now.”

“Stop right there.”

My little room was filled with soldiers. Rex pulled out his arm and rushed the soldiers. They exchanged blows back and forth.

Rex was shot.

I scream and cry.

He’s thrown back to the wall. He struggles and grabs me. “GO!” He growls and throws me through the mirror.

I land on my pick carpet, sobbing my tiny heart put.

I get to my little feet. “Rex?” I walk to the mirror and touch it. It’s solid. “Rex!” I shout to the mirror.

I stand there crying then turn around. I climb into bed, like Rex told me to, holding the dirty rabbit missing an eye.

As I looked around my room and realized it had color and all my toys weren’t broken, I realized I was home.

Instantly, I cried for my mother.

When my father came in, he grabbed me so tight. I cried for Rex. I cried for everything that happened. I cried for all the scary things I saw.

As the weeks passed, I would touch my mirror everyday hoping Rex would come back. I was too young to understand what it all meant. I needed help, but no one would believe me. I wanted to help my friend, but no one would listen. As time went on, my sadness turned to anger. Frustration of not being believed that the world I saw was real.

I scrub my face again. I wish I didn’t remember, but I remember everything. Every detail.

It’s because of that detail, I run from Rex now. As much as I care for him, he scares me. His world scares me. I won’t be sucked in again.

Rex is a chaos I want to forget, but now he’s pushing all my memories to the front of my mind. I don’t want this because the more I remember, the more I want to go back to Washington and hunt out the mirror he’s in. The more I want to go back for him. He’s surrounded by danger. It’s the only thing that stops me. I’m no longer the brave fighter I once was…

Or maybe I am.

I get up and walk to my door. I open it and pad across the hall to Sawyers room.

I quietly slip in and shut the door behind me. There’s only one thing I need right now to give me comfort.

He’s laying on his side, facing me. Quietly sleeping like he always does. The moonlight makes him even more beautiful.

I tip toe to his bed and lift his blanket. Sliding in, he stirs. “Hey, little fox.” He says in a sexy, low sleep voice. “What’s wrong?”

I adjust myself into his chest. “I want to go home.” I choke.

“To Washington?” He says as he gently runs his hand across the side of my face and the tear that welled in my eye.

I nod and cuddle into him more. “I have to be a brave fighter.”

He pulls his head back, a little confusion crosses his face. “You do. You’re not a good fighter if you’re not.” He studies my eyes. “What happened?”

I look away. “Nothing. I just remembered something.”

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asks.

I shake my head. “No.”

“Ok.” He says.

“I want to show you.” I look into his eyes. “Take me home, Sawyer.”

He studies my face more. He’s trying to piece me together in his mind. “Ok. We leave in the morning.”

He leans in and kisses me with his soft lips. He rolls me on my back and caresses my body.

He pulls his lips back. “You’re amazing.” He gently moves my hair off my forehead with his fingertips.

“Not that amazing.” I mumble.

He leans close. “You’re more amazing than you know.” He smiles.

I give a little smile and he kisses me again. His thick arm wraps around my head.

I don’t know why, but I feel so safe with Sawyer. If I’m going back, I want Sawyer by my side. I know he can handle what I’ve seen. For some reason, I think Sawyer really gets me. Understands me. He’s so willing to help me with something so unbelievable. It’s like he was meant to come into my spiraling disaster of a life.

I couldn’t be more thankful.
