Chapter 21
Peter, Cheryl, Derek, Liam and I were standing in front of Frankie's grave dressed in all black. I watched as the priest said some things I couldn't quite understand. How would I know? I'm not Catholic. Hell, I don't even go to church.
He sprinkled holy water on the grave. When he was done, he turned to us and said
"It is done”
"Thank you Father” we said
We all dropped our flowers on the grave and started going home. I couldn't help but wonder one thing; Derek seemed so distant.
His eyes were always red like he'd been crying. I just don't get it..
Why is he so shaken up? Is it because of Frankie's death? We're all sad but it seems his emotions are deeper than ours.
Oh well. maybe it's all in my head.
Liam's POV
I'm in the kitchen drinking a glass of water thinking about Kathy. She hasn't talked nor eaten in 4 days. I haven't even seen her since morning.
I went outside to see what she was up to and to make sure she's alright.
I saw her on the field making a doll house in honour of Frankie.
"Baby" I cooed
She didn't answer. I noticed she had finished it, she just sat there on the ground ..looking at it.
On top the house, there was a pink sign “To the strongest person I know"
It was really beautiful and pink. I'm sure Frankie would have loved it if she was alive. Too bad she isn't.
She started crying. I pulled her up and hugged her tightly. It hurt me to see my princess like this. "Shh it's okay" I whispered as I tried to soothe her
"Why??" she sobbed "She was so young"
Her voice was cracked and dry. I'm sure she hasn't drunk water since today.
I pulled her all the way back home. When we entered I took her to the kitchen and sat her down on the couch. I went to the counter to pour her a glass of milk, when I was done I set it in front of her. She drank it slowly as if savouring the taste.
Suddenly, Derek entered the kitchen. He had eye bags and he had gotten thinner over the past four days.
"Good day Alpha, Luna" he greeted
Kathy just nodded staring into space, she had eye bags too. She looked so pale and thin.
"Hi Derek, how are you?" I asked
Not like I'm not hurting or anything but everyone is already down. I have to be strong for the pack. I can't afford to break down too no matter how bad I felt.
He punched the wall hard which left a hole. Kathy flinched:
"What kind of question is that huh?" He screamed "Frankie's dead. Of course, I'm not fine"
I took a deep breath. On a normal day, I would not tolerate such disrespect but this is a tragic incident. It must have affected everyone.
"Calm down, we're all sad. I feel your pain" I said
He took several breaths then shook his head.
"No, you don't. You won't understand. Nobody will"
"What do you mean?"
"How would you feel if Kathy died?"
"We're not hoping for that!" I shrieked "What is up with you?"
He sank to the floor and cried
"Frankie was my mate”
What?!
