The Alpha King’s Heart: His Rejected Mate: Chapter 23
I woke up in the arms of my beloved mate, he kissed my temple and rolled off the bed.
‘I have to go to the palace,’ he seemed distressed a little.
‘Is everything alright?’ I asked, rubbing my eyes.
‘We have spotted dark wolves at the border again,’ he informed me and my blood ran cold. Dark wolves. The dark wolves were followers of the dark king, they were loyal to him even after he was killed by Wyatt and were banned from society. The dark wolves just like their former leader were oppressors of their fellow werewolf race. Most were corrupted by witches’ magic.
‘How… I thought you killed the dark king years ago,’
‘Yes but we were so relaxed and they managed to rebuild and now, they want to take us out. They think I treated them unfairly,’ he explained.
‘So, what’s going to happen?’
‘Kill them, all of them so that they have no chance to rise again,’ he said determined.
‘But who’s their leader?’
‘We don’t know, we placed Azriel to infiltrate their ranks, that’s how we have been able to stop the attacks they launch against packs but he’s yet to see the new king,’ he grimaced. I sighed and he pulled me in his arms, hugging me tightly.
‘Don’t worry, I’ll get them,’ he promised. Even though Wyatt had a busy day ahead, he spent over an hour with me before he left. I kept on thinking about what he said about the dark wolves, and it frightened me, knowing that they were strong wolves. Just how many are they if they had the guts to attack the Alpha king’s pack? But it was no surprise they will target the Black Diamond first, after all, they were the strongest and they believe if the king and his pack fell, it will be easy to take over the others.
…
I spent most of my days doing nothing and knowing the town more, it was peaceful and no one knew me. I often escorted Lucas to school and spend my time in the library, as lavish as it is, the Estate is quite boring. I opened the library door and as always was always I marveled at it. The bookshelves towered over me and had countless books I’d never even heard of. I picked a book and sat against a statue. I was soon enveloped in the supernatural book I was reading and only stopped when I heard hushed voices. I closed my book and got to my feet and soon, I saw two figures walk in my path.
‘Enough, someone will hear us,’ A feminine voice whispered. Leaving the library undetected, I went outside in the garden. I hadn’t realized it was dark outside until I got there. I inhaled as the chilly air hit my skin. I stretched my legs by walking around the premises. The sound of the birds chirped in the sky and the wind blew as I walked silently. The evening felt serene but I soon came to a halt when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. The watcher was here. Was it someone from the Estate, I doubted anyone would come near the king’s house without proper permission. My heart was at ease though.
‘I know you’re there, come out,’ I commanded gently. I saw a pair of black eyes deep in the forest, watching me intently. I knew I should make a 180 and run inside the room, but my legs protested.
‘Do you have any fear?’ A deep husky voice said. It had command and sent shivers all over my body. I swallowed and look around with my eyes, I spotted a couple of guards patrolling but none dared to come where I was.
‘Who are you and why have you been watching me,’ It was silent yet I could see the dark eyes. A whimper sounded, it was a wolf. How was this possible, how did a wolf talk to me?
‘Come out, now,’
‘You can’t command me, you are no one,’ The voice said- Crude, I thought. A low growl resounded, and I stepped back as a wolf stepped out. The wolf looked ordinary, no human possessed it. A wild wolf, but slightly bigger. It didn’t look aggravated either but maybe because it had a leash.
‘And you too,’
The man came out and oh goddess-He was gorgeous. He was tall and broad-shouldered. His hair tousled with nice hazel eyes. But it’s his similarity to my mate that took my breath away, they could easily pass as twins. They both had a sense of notoriety to them. His lips curled in a small smirk.
‘Hello, there,’
‘Who are you and why are you hiding here?’ I asked firmly. He stared at me for a long time before he answered,
‘I wasn’t hiding,’ His eyes were stuck on me. He seemed to be in a trance. The wolf next to him nudged him with its body, and he got out of it.
‘I’m-‘
‘Azriel,’ I whispered.
