Chapter 28
Audrey’s ears perked up as she heard several people board the charter bus. “We’re looking for a certain girl.” A male voice said. Audrey didn’t know why but that voice gave him goosebumps. Audrey quietly crawled towards the front of the bus. She didn’t know who the man was but she knew that the man was there for her. She wasn’t sure she wanted to know though how many men were with him. She reached a compartment door and opened it far enough for her to slip out. As soon as she did though, she was grabbed.
“Well, well, well. Look at what we have here.” The male voice said. Audrey looked up. It was a man in a black suit with black cropped hair and red eyes. The man smiled. “Anthony will be very excited to meet you at last Audrey.” The man told her. The man looked at his demonic Black Hands. “Tie her up and take her to our sedans.” He ordered them.
Audrey thought about fighting back but then she realized that her best chance at getting to Aunica was by allowing herself to get captured by Anthony’s followers. Besides, she really wanted to meet the man who had destroyed her life and had allowed Harold and Hannah to chase her. She glared at the man. “And who are you?” She demanded.
Josiah knelt in front of her. “I am known by many names.” He told Audrey. “But the name I’ve gone by for the Black Hand is Josiah.”
Audrey focused on Josiah. She was curious about what he had just said. Her eyes glowed white as visions came to her.
An angel killing several first-born sons in Egypt, making Egyptians cry…
A demonic snake monster cloud blocking out the sun…
And then Audrey was in the far past. If she had to take a guess, she was back at the first war against the Darkness. Several men were kneeling before a throne. It was hard to tell who was on the throne because of the darkness all around the person. Audrey saw a warrior standing by the throne. He was wearing black armor and had a spiky helmet in his hands. It was Josiah.
“Malachai.” A voice said from within the darkness. Josiah knelt before the darkness. “I want you to lead this attack.” The different men looked at each other before they looked at Josiah.
Josiah nodded. “As you wish my Empress.” He said.
Audrey gasped as she returned to the present and looked up at Josiah. “You were there at the original fight?” She asked Josiah. She wasn’t sure what made her more surprised. That Josiah had been there at the original fight or that he had called the Darkness his empress. Why had Josiah done? Did it have to do with why Jasper had torn out the pages from his journal?
Josiah frowned. He wasn’t sure what Audrey had seen in her visions but he really didn’t care. “I was and all of the things that I could tell you.” He told Audrey. “But we’re not here to talk about that.” He looked at his demonic Black Hands. “Take her away!” He ordered.
In Anthony’s limo, Anthony answered his phone. “Yes Master?” He asked. He knew it was the Darkness. Anthony frowned as he listened to the Darkness. “Are you sure Master?” He asked. Anthony’s eyes flickered to his driver. “I wouldn’t trust him Master. Trust me. Audrey is the Chosen One we’ve been after.”
There was another moment of silence as the Darkness spoke to Anthony. Anthony’s face turned white. “I’m simply tying up loose ends.” He answered. How did the Darkness know he was going to New York? There was a moment of silence again before the phone call ended.
Anthony lowered his phone and looked out his window. So the Darkness knew that he was going to New York for something. Anthony then smiled. But the Darkness didn’t know exactly what he was doing which worked out for him. Anthony knew he could still get away with his scheme to end up on top.
Anthony took out his briefcase and opened it to reveal his laptop. He just needed four new Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Unlike the Darkness though, he wouldn’t be too picky about who the vessels were. He just needed four of the best warriors in the Black Hand. Luckily he had a file on each Black Hand so picking the four new vessels would be easier for him.
Anthony’s phone started ringing again. Anthony looked at the caller ID. It was Josiah. Anthony answered it. “What is it?” He asked Josiah. His eyes lit up as he heard Josiah’s answer. “Where is she?” Maybe there was time for him to still win everything after all. “Excellent. Bring her to me right away.” The sooner he had the Chosen One in his grasp, the better. Not just the Chosen One but a possible new Horseman of War as well.
By a lake out in the middle of nowhere, Agent Beckett and his driver pushed James to the ground. Agent Beckett took his gun out and pointed it at James. “Don’t try anything kid or I’ll shoot you right here.” Agent Beckett said before he turned to his driver. “Are you sure the lake is deep enough so that no one can find him?” He asked. He wanted to make sure before they tried killing
The driver nodded. “No one will be able to find him.” He answered. He went to the trunk of his car and took out chains. “Especially with these weighing him down.” He added, laughing.
James’s eyes widened. There was no way that this Black Hand could have planned this all out. How would they know that they would capture him at that rest stop? “How did you know to have those chains?” James asked. “Or about this lake?” He had to know.
The driver smiled. “Thanks to a special friend, I knew what to do.” He answered. He didn’t know who it was that gave him orders but he didn’t question the special friend since the person always proved to be right. Agent Beckett and the driver tied James up with the chains. James was too busy lost in his thoughts. It sounded like the Black Hand had someone who could tell the future but how was that possible? If they did, the Black Hand would have known their ritual plan would have failed.
Agent Beckett looked at the driver. “Drown him. I need to get going. Apparently Anthony needs me for something.” He didn’t know exactly what but he wasn’t going to fail the new Right Hand of the Darkness. Agent Beckett looked at James. “Goodbye Boy.” He told James.
James heard Agent Beckett leaving. He waited until the car noise was gone before he made his move. His eyes glowed blue, breaking the chains. He got up quickly and before the driver could do anything, James had the man pinned to the ground. “Tell me who your informant is!” James shouted. “Who is the special friend?” James wasn’t sure if the special friend was working with Anthony or not but Audrey was in danger as long as this future reader was around.
The driver laughed. “Do you really think I’ll just tell you?” He asked James. “My special friend and I aren’t scared of you or your immortal friend Gabriel.”
James’s eyes widened. The special friend knew Jasper was dead. That was why the special friend only said Gabriel’s name. James wasn’t sure who the special friend was but he knew Audrey was in danger. He also couldn’t leave this man around. James’s eyes glowed dark blue and the Black Hand went limp. James dropped the body and looked towards the road. He had an agent to get rid of as well as finding the special friend.
In Tokyo Japan, there was a giant business tower. It made all the other buildings seem puny in size. No one was sure though what the tower did or who ran it. No one ever used the front doors. Instead, people who worked there would go into the privately owned parking garage. The only marking on the outside of the tower was a Black Hand.
On the top floor, the entire room was shrouded in darkness. It hid the five figures sitting at their seats. Not even the city lights outside could light them up. They couldn’t even see each other but they knew where each other was.
The five had chosen Tokyo Japan for their base of operations since it was far from the rest of the Black Hands. It gave them the power and privacy to do whatever they wanted. Not even the Man with the German Accent knew about the tower.
“Is Anthony certain that Audrey is the Chosen One?” A male voice asked.
“He’s certain about it.” A female voice full of self importance said. “Certain enough to give the Magician and Bastet false information about the one known as Emily Tual.”
The five knew about Anthony’s deception. They knew everything that every Black Hand did. Didn’t matter if it was a low-life or a high ranking member. The five knew about it. If the Man with the German Accent knew what they did, he would be furious but they never told him what they knew. They only cared about getting rid of any possible Chosen One.
“Has the Darkness given us orders in case Anthony is wrong?” Another male voice asked. This one sounded very strict and serious.
" Not yet.” The first male voice replied. “Apparently she’s willing to wait to see if Anthony is right or not.” The way he said it made it clear he didn’t like waiting.
“Ugh. Why do we have to wait?” A second female voice asked in a Southern American accent. “If we wait and Anthony is wrong, we just wasted a lot of time finding the real Chosen One.”
“We don’t question the Darkness.” The first male voice said. “Now then, Duchess Annamarie, have you heard from our Black Hand who was to drown the boy?”
“No I haven’t.” The self importance female voice answered. “I can only assume he is dead.” She wouldn’t be surprised, considering James’s ruthlessness.
“I still think we should have ordered Agent Beckett to stay until James was dead.” The strict serious male voice said. “Don’t you agree Doctor Vilt?”
“Yes.” A third female voice said. There was the sound of movement. “But what’s done is done. Nothing we can do now.” Doctor Vilt added. “All we can do now is wait and see what Anthony has planned.”
There was a click and a small screen turned on, lighting up an elderly man’s face. He had gray hair and wrinkles but the wrinkles couldn’t hide his evilness. The screen showed him Anthony’s limo on the highway. “Where are you going?” The old man asked, revealing him to have the first voice.
The old man’s eyes narrowed in on the limo. “For now, we just keep an eye on Anthony until the time comes.” He told the other four. “He might be hiding something of great importance from us.”
In the Last Hope Home, Aunica was fast asleep, not knowing of any of the danger that she was in or who was coming for her.
