The Adventures of Emily Tual: Camp Adventures Book Two

Chapter Chapter Twenty Five

Later that night, from his hiding spot, Matthew watched the two Experimental Explosion groups going to their cabins to get ready for bed. His hand over his blade was itching to take the blade out to kill Audrey. He had been waiting practically all afternoon and was finally about to get the chance. He had changed from his summer staff uniform to his Black Hand outfit. He had also put on a long black coat and a black hood was over his head. His hands were in black gloves. He had a black mask over his face to hide it. If he failed at killing Audrey that night, he would have another four nights to carry out the task. Of course that was assuming that Josiah didn’t show up and kill him. He was relieved that Gabriel or his two assistants hadn’t discovered that he was a Black Hand. He couldn’t help but smile under his mask. Soon he would have one child gone and one to go after.

As Emily was getting into bed, she took the locket out of her bag and looked at it. She wondered if she would ever find the Audrey who went with the locket. She opened it and looked at the picture of the baby in it. She felt like she had seen that baby before. She shook her head before she closed the locket. There was no way that she was going to find that Audrey any time soon. She put the locket back into her backpack. She looked at her sister. Rachel was already asleep.

Emily smiled. Her sister was already doing well on the first day. She looked at her cousins. Elizabeth and Delaney were talking to Katie and Savannah. She then looked at Kat. Their counselor was going over the week’s schedule by herself. Emily laid back in her bed and fell asleep. She knew that she was going to have another dream but she also knew that there was no avoiding it.

She was in another cabin. From what she could see, it looked like she was in the other Experimental Explosion girls’ cabin. She hadn’t had a chance to learn any of their names yet. She was hoping that before the end of the week that she would. She saw the one girl that she had spotted earlier that day. It was the girl that looked familiar. She wasn’t sure though why the teenage girl looked familiar. She was older than Emily by at least three or four years. Emily went up to the teenage girl and looked at her.

Emily then realized that this dream seemed more lifelike than the other dreams. That was when she heard the cabin door opening up. She spun around and her eyes widened. There was a strange figure standing there. He was dressed in black clothes. His hood was up and there was a black mask on his face. He had a long black jacket on. The figure looked in the direction that Emily and the teenage girl were in. The figure raised his hand up. To Emily’s horror, the figure had a sharp knife.

The figure went up to the teenage girl. Emily looked at the figure. She knew that she had to stop him but it didn’t look like she could. The figure couldn’t see her. That was a first. Usually whoever the bad guy was did notice her. The figure raised his knife over the teenage girl. “Time for your end Girl.” He told her.

Emily woke up and sat up. She looked at the other girls. They were all asleep. She looked at her watch. She had been asleep for about two hours. It was impossible to believe that. She looked at Kat. The counselor was asleep. How was it possible for the dream to have taken up two hours and yet it only felt like minutes to her? Emily shook her head. There was something more important for her to take care of. She didn’t know how, but she knew that the teenage girl, whatever her name was, was in danger.

She heard something outside. Her eyes immediately went to the door. Her heart was thudding as she got out of bed and went to the door. She had a feeling that she knew what was outside. Or rather, who it was that was outside. She lifted the curtain and looked outside. Her eyes widened in fear. It was the figure from her dream. She quickly lowered the curtain and hoed that the figure hadn’t spotted her. She looked at her counselor. She had to tell Kat what was outside.

She looked out the window again. The figure was already opening the door to the other cabin. She looked down at her counselor before she looked out the window. She knew what she had to do. She opened the door and ran outside. The figure was already in the cabin. She knew that she had to hurry it up.

Matthew went up to Audrey’s bed. He raised his knife up over the girl. “Time for your Girl.” He said. He was about to bring the knife down when the door flew open.

“Stop!” A girl screamed. He spun around in alarm before he gritted his teeth under his mask. It was the Chosen One. She was staring at him. “Get away from her!” The Chosen One screamed. He saw the girls and their counselor waking up. He also heard the noise of people in the other cabins waking up. His chance to kill Audrey was lost that night. He turned to Audrey. She had woken up and was staring at him in fright.

Matthew leaned down to her. “This isn’t over Girl.” He whispered to her menacing. He spun around and ran to the door. He pushed the Chosen One down to the ground. “I’ll be coming after you as well Chosen One.” He told the chosen one. He saw people coming out of the other cabins. The lights to the cabins were on and the road lamp was on, bathing him in orange light. He was relieved that he was in his full costume. It would be impossible for anyone to pin him for the attack on Audrey. He also saw Kat. She was looking at him. Unlike everyone else, she didn’t seem quite alarmed to see him.

“Get away from my sister!” He saw a little girl running towards him and the chosen one.

He managed not to laugh but he did look at the Chosen One. “You’ll be seeing me again really soon.” He told her. He then ran off into the forest.

Emily groaned as she rubbed the back of her head. “Are you okay?” She turned to see the teenage girl that the figure had tried to kill.

The teenage girl seemed more worried about her though. “I think so. Probably just a bit sore from hitting the ground.” Emily answered her.

The teenage girl smiled a little. “Thank you for saving me.” She told Emily. She offered her hand to Emily. Emily smiled and took it. The two girls stood up. “I’m Audrey.” The teenage girl told Emily. “What’s your name?”

Emily couldn’t believe it. The teenage girl had just told her that she was Audrey. “I’m Emily.” She told Audrey. She couldn’t believe that she had found the child from the locket without meaning to.

“Emily!” Emily and Audrey turned to see Kat walking towards them. “You can’t leave your group by yourself.” Emily knew that Kat was right. One of the rules that Gabriel had told everyone was that they couldn’t walk by themselves. They needed at least two to four people in a group. Kat looked down at Emily as she got to them. “We’ll talk about your punishment tomorrow morning with Gabriel.” She told her.

“Actually, we’ll talk about this right now.” A stern voice said. Everyone there turned to see Gabriel. He wasn’t alone. There were quite a few staff members with him. Emily noticed that James was there as well. He was focused on her. She was really hoping that she wasn’t blushing.

Kat shook her head. “Emily was without her group and she went out of the cabin.” She explained to Gabriel. “If she hadn’t screamed, I wouldn’t have noticed that she was gone.”

Gabriel looked at Emily. He had a feeling that she had a good reason for going off by herself. “Why were you by yourself?” He demanded of her. Emily looked down as tears came to her eyes.

Audrey stepped in. “She just saved my life!” She shouted angrily.

Kat and Gabriel looked at her. “Explain.” Gabriel ordered. There was no reason why anyone was in that much danger. If anyone should have been in danger, it should have been Emily.

“There was a figure standing over me with a knife in his hand.” Audrey explained. “He was going to kill me but Emily’s scream woke everyone up and he had to leave.”

James cleared his throat. Gabriel turned to him. “Yes?” He asked.

James gestured to the others there. “We have a more pressing matter to take care of Gabriel.” He told Gabriel. “They said that the figure left but he might still be here in the camp. We should have the staff looking for him.” James knew that Gabriel would put aside everything else to make sure that the Black Hand was caught. James went up to Emily and held her close. “You’re not in trouble.” He whispered in her ear as he comforted her. He looked at Gabriel over Emily’s shoulder. “Have the staff split up into two teams. One team will go after that guy and the other will stand guard until you tell them to get rest.”

Gabriel nodded. “Very well.” He said. He looked at his staff. “You heard James.” He told them. “While you’re doing that, I’ll call the local police and try to see if they can help us out or not.” He looked at Emily. “Thank you for saving Audrey’s life.” He told her. “Next time though, wake up your counselor before rushing off to be a hero.” He looked at all the campers and counselors from the five cabins. “Now off to bed all of you!” He shouted. “You have activities tomorrow that you need to be rested for!” With that, he left.

James patted Emily’s back as he looked at her. “Are you going to be okay?” He asked her.

Emily nodded as she wiped her tears away. “I thought I was going to be in more trouble but I guess Gabriel doesn’t want to punish me for this.” She answered.

James smiled. That made Emily feel safer. “Gabriel will be more focused on finding whoever it was that tried to kill…” He looked at Audrey. “I didn’t learn your name.” He told her.

Audrey laid a hand on Emily’s shoulder. “My name is Audrey.” She told James. “Emily shouldn’t get punished at all for saving my life.” She looked at Kat. “You will not be punishing my friend for doing what was right.” She told Emily’s counselor.

Kat merely looked at her for a minute before she shrugged. “I guess.” She said.

Audrey smiled and looked at Emily. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” She told Emily. She looked at James for a brief moment before she went back into her cabin with the other girls.

Kat looked at James and Emily. “No PDA you two.” She told them jokingly. That made Emily laugh a little.

James simply smiled before he looked at the other staff members who were going off to try to find the attacker. “I should join them in trying to find him.” He told the two. “No doubt they’re going to need help finding him.” He had a feeling that they wouldn’t find the Black Hand. The Black Hand had probably gone into the forest to disappear using magic.

James felt Emily wrap her arms around him. “Please stay here.” She whispered. James looked at her. He wasn’t expecting that. Emily looked at him. “I would feel better knowing that you were close by.” She explained. “It would also give you a chance to catch that killer if he came back here again.” James thought about it. Emily did have a point. He knew that she had another reason for wanting him to stay there but he wasn’t going to expose that reason. That was something Emily should have the right to tell everyone about, not him.

Kat cleared her throat. “Come on Emily.” She told her camper. “We all need to get sleep.” Emily looked at her before she looked at James.

James smiled a little. “I’ll be here until I get word from Gabriel to go back home.” He told her.

Emily smiled and hugged him again. “Thank you.” She said before she went to the cabin with Kat and the other girls.
