The Adventures of Emily Tual: Camp Adventures Book Two

Chapter Chapter Seventeen

Emily sat down in the clubhouse in the backyard. The meeting that she tried to have with her cousins and little sister was a total bust. None of them had been able to meet with her. Elizabeth and Delaney had left for a book signing that one of their favorite writers was doing and Rachel had decided to hang out with her friends. She took her book out. “I guess it’s just you and me.” She told it. She stroked the S on the cover. “So let’s try to find out more about what I’m up against.” She was about to open it when she felt the temperature drop to a cold temperature. She quickly put her book away and went to the winter clothes Rachel and she kept in the clubhouse. She put on a jacket.

She then turned to the door and frowned. She could have sworn that she had heard a horse whinnying. Not just a normal whinnying though. This one sounded eerie and disturbing. Almost like it wasn’t entirely there. Almost ghost-like. She shivered. She was just scaring herself. She wished that her dad was still there but he had left to do the shopping for the girls’ week at camp. She kept her eyes on the door, scared that it be opened from the outside.

Andrew looked around as he drove through town. No one seemed to notice him or care that he was driving through. No doubt they just thought he was driving with horses in his trailer. He was willing to bet that they weren’t even looking at his license plates. He had a feeling that if anyone looked in his trailer, that they would freak out. He then looked up at the sky as it became dark. He frowned. It was summertime and not even three in the afternoon. There was no reason for it to be getting dark. Unless, he stopped and looked in his side mirror, the Horseman of Death was doing this.

The side door to the trailer opened up. The Horseman of Death came out of it and went to the back of the trailer. Andrew got out and ran over to the Horseman. He noticed that it was a bit colder but he had a feeling that it was because of the Horseman of Death as well. He knew that people usually felt cold right before they died. If that was true, then the Horseman of Death was up to something.

“What is going on?” He asked the Horseman of Death.

The Horseman of Death looked at him and opened the trailer door. “I must start my journey to find the child.” He answered as his horse came out.

Andrew shook his head. “You mean the kid from Russia?” He asked.

The Horseman of Death went back into the trailer and came out a minute later with his scythe. “The Darkness wants me to try to finish her before the other three Horsemen have been found and so far, two have been found.”

Andrew was surprised by that. He didn’t expect their master to be that far with his plans already. “Who are their vessels?” He asked. “Are they Black Hands that I know of?”

The Horseman of Death looked at Andrew. “I must leave now.” He told Andrew. “You are to go to the manor and report in to the Magician.” He then galloped away on his horse.

Andrew shook his head. “Great.” He muttered as he watched the Horseman of Death disappear and the light returned. Now he had to explain to the man with the German accent why he was showing up with an empty trailer. He had originally planned to bring the Horseman of Death to the manor to report to the man with the German accent before letting the Horseman of Death ride away to find the girl. He closed the trailer doors and looked around. There was no sign of anyone else there. No doubt they were too busy inside other places. He got back into his driver’s seat and quickly drove away.

From within her clubhouse, Emily felt the warmth return. She was hiding under the built-in bed’s mattress. She had gotten really scared when she had heard the horse whinnying more and movement outside of her house. She had held her breath when she had heard the galloping of the horse. With everything that had happened in her dreams, she knew that it had to be a Horseman of the Apocalypse, maybe even the one from her dream. She was clinging to her book tightly. “Please hurry home Daddy.” She whispered quietly. She didn’t want to be alone anymore. She didn’t come out of her hiding place until she heard whatever had been in front of her home drive away.

Emily quickly ran into the house and up to her bedroom. She closed the door and locked it. She sat on the other side of her bed, facing the door. She wasn’t sure why there had been a Horseman of the Apocalypse in front of her home but it couldn’t have been good. He must have been up to something. She took her book out. “Maybe you can distract me from the Horseman of the Apocalypse.” She told it as she opened it. She started to read it more.

In the manor, the Man with the German Accent was in his study. He was thinking about the book that he had seen in Emily’s bag when he had spied on her and her relatives a few days before. He thought deeply about it. If it was the book that he thought it was, it would be important for him to get it from her. She didn’t know it but the book had a very important page. One that he would need if he was going to bring back the Darkness. He shook his head. How did the girl get the book and why didn’t any of the Black Hands try to get the book away from her?

The Man with the German Accent took out an old notebook from under his desk and opened it. He looked at the page he opened to. There was ancient writing on the page. The language it was written in was dead but he knew what it was supposed to say. That Seraphina’s right hand, Gabriel, had written the entire spell to bring back the Darkness in the back of a codex before hiding it. The Man with the German Accent couldn’t believe Gabriel had done that but he wasn’t bothered by that. He could easily use the spell to bring back the Darkness if all else failed.

There was a knock at the door. He looked up. “Enter.” He ordered.

Andrew came into the room. “Sir, I have very important news for you.” Andrew told the Man with the German Accent.

The Man with the German Accent raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?” He asked. “And what is this very important news?” This had to be good.

Andrew took a breath before he spoke. “The Horseman of Death is on the loose in Ohio.” He answered. “He got out of his transport in Carrolton and rode away quickly.”

The Man with the German Accent frowned. “He rode away in sun light?” He asked. Even he knew that the Horseman of Death couldn’t travel well in the sun. That was why he had been released during the storm. The sun had been blocked out on that day. That was why the Darkness had Andrew’s family in Florida. To be ready to bring the Horseman of Death up to Ohio when the time came so he didn’t have to worry about the sunlight hurting him. So why on Earth would the Horseman of Death ride during the day? It made no sense.

Andrew swallowed nervously. “I think it’s because of something else he said.” He told the Man with the German Accent. He knew that he would have to say this carefully or risk getting killed.

The Man with the German Accent stood up and went up to Andrew. He could tell that the young man was very nervous. “And what else did he say?” He asked in a dangerous voice.

Andrew took a moment before he continued. “He said that two of the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse have found their vessels.”

It was like the Man with the German Accent had been punched in the stomach. The Darkness had already chosen two vessels for two of the three remaining Horsemen of the Apocalypse? That was impossible. He would have seen the Black Hands bring down the two vessels. “Are you sure that’s what the Horseman of Death said?” He asked in an urgent voice.

Andrew frowned. It sounded like the Man with the German Accent wasn’t expecting to have two of the vessels there already. “Yes Sir.” He answered. “He said that two of the three remaining Horsemen of the Apocalypse had their vessels and so he had to try to complete his mission before the third Horseman was found.”

The Man with the German Accent thought it over. “Who did the Darkness choose to be two other Horsemen of the Apocalypse?” He asked Andrew. “Did the Horseman of Death tell you who the Darkness had chosen?”

Andrew shook his head. “He wasn’t much for talking when we got here.” He admitted.

The Man with the German Accent shook his head. “I have to go check on something.” He told Andrew before he rushed out of the study.

As the Man with the German Accent was walking down to the basement, his mind was reeling. Who were the two new vessels for the Horsemen of the Apocalypse? He heard Andrew behind him. No doubt the young Black Hand wanted to know who the two vessels were as well. They would be some of the very first Black Hands to see who the new Horsemen of the Apocalypse were. They both entered the basement and stopped.

“There was only one opened last time I was down here.” The Man with the German Accent said as he looked at the now three opened coffins and the one closed coffin.

Andrew looked at him. “Are these the coffins the Horsemen are supposed to be in?” He asked nervously.

The Man with the German Accent nodded and looked at the Black Hands standing guard. He had forgotten that they would have most likely seen who the two new vessels were. “Where are the vessels?” He demanded from them. The Black Hands standing guard didn’t answer.

The Man with the German Accent raised his cane up and the top of it glowed. “Tell me who they are.” He demanded the guarding Black Hands. “I won’t ask again.” That was when the top of his cane stopped glowing.

“They won’t answer you.” A voice said. Andrew and the Man with the German Accent spun around. Standing there was Derdorm. He looked smug with himself. “They were put there by the Darkness himself to stand guard over the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.” He continued. “Did you really think they would be scared of you?” He then laughed.

The Man with the German Accent looked at the four coffins. “Why are three coffins opened now?” He asked. “The Horseman of Death said that two of three Horsemen had vessels.”

Derdrom nodded. “And two vessels have been chosen.” He told the two. He went up to the closed coffin and smiled. “Our first Horseman here is the Horseman of Famine.” He told the two. “She was starving to get her revenge on someone and this is the best way for her to do it.” He then looked at the three opened coffins. “The Horsemen of Death and War are already on the loose and are just waiting for the last Horseman to join them.”

The Man with the German Accent looked at the three opened coffins. “The Horseman of War has a vessel?” He asked before he looked at Derdrom. “Who is it?”

Derdrom looked at him. “A very powerful warrior.” He answered. “Someone who the Darkness saw great potential in.”

Andrew looked at the opened coffins. “So we just need a Horseman of Pestilence before we have all four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.” He said.

Dedrom nodded. “The Horseman of Death has his assignment and the Horseman of War is waiting to join the other three here.” He told the two.

Dedrom looked at the two men. He could tell that they were trying to figure out who the two Horsemen of the Apocalypse were that the Darkness had recruited. They would never be able to guess who the two were. He had been forbidden to tell anyone who the vessels were. He was in the dark though about who the Horseman of Pestilence’s vessel would be. “The Darkness plans to have our last Horseman join the other three on the day of the ritual.” He told them. “And on that day, it will be a very dark day indeed.” He smiled as he said that, making Andrew and the Man with the German Accent look at each other nervously.
