Chapter Chapter Forty One
At the ruins, the man with the German accent entered the main room. The Black Hands all became quiet as he walked to the center of the room. They knew what was about to happen. Everyone but Caterina and Emily put on robes. The Man with the German Accent was wearing the only red robe. In the quiet amphitheater, everyone could hear the Horsemen of the Apocalypse’s horses heading towards them. Everyone put on their masks except for Emily. At that moment, to everyone’s surprise, four horsemen came in. Emily looked at them and her eyes widened. They looked exactly like the way they did in her nightmare. Seeing them in person though scared her even more.
The Man with the German Accent looked at the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He was really surprised to see all four of them. He thought that the Darkness hadn’t gotten a vessel for the Horseman of Pestilence. But seeing the Horseman of Pestilence there made him realize that he should never underestimate the Darkness. That was when the Man with the German Accent looked at the Horseman of War. He also remembered that the Darkness had told him that he had gotten a second vessel for the Horseman of War in case they needed one. He wondered who the second vessel was. He looked around and noticed that Anastasia wasn’t there. He found it odd that she wasn’t there. She had seemed interested in being there so the Darkness could see that he had an evil descendant on his side.
Caterina went up to him. “We have a ritual to perform.” She reminded him. The Man with the German Accent nodded and looked at Emily. “Black Hands!” He shouted. “Tonight, we have the chance to bring back our master! The Darkness has waited long enough to come back to this world from his prison!” There was a loud cheer from the Black Hands in the room. They all wanted the Darkness to come back. The Man with the German Accent raised his free hand and the entire amphitheater became quiet again. “It has taken us a very long time but we now have the Chosen One that is supposed to defeat the Darkness!” With that, he pointed his cane at Emily.
Emily could feel the eyes of every Black Hand and even the eyes of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on her. The Man with the German Accent continued his speech. “Seraphina, our sworn enemy, said that the Chosen One would defeat the Darkness but she will be the reason that we will have our master back!” With that, every Black Hand in the room began to cheer loudly again. Emily couldn’t believe that everyone there wanted the Darkness back so badly. She looked at the Man with the German Accent. He was still glaring at her. “This Chosen One not only is the biggest threat to the Darkness but she is responsible for the death of Bastet, Simmons and even more of our Black Hands!” He shouted angrily. “She has murdered several of our brothers and sisters!”
That was when the Black Hands in the room began shouting and jeering at Emily. It looked they all wanted her dead even more now. Two Black Hands went over to Emily and grabbed her. Emily cried out as she felt them grab her roughly. She had a feeling that her body would have bruises on it. “Bring her forward!” The Man with the German Accent shouted. Caterina went over to Emily and broke the chain that kept her trapped. The two Black Hands dragged Emily to the altar. They threw Emily onto the altar and chained her down. “Tonight, the Darkness rises up once more!” The Man with the German Accent shouted. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse raised their weapons up as the Black Hands all cheered loudly.
Outside the ruins, James and Audrey were looking at the entrance. There were four horses there. Each one matched the description of one of the horses that the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse rode. There were also a few Black Hands outside the entrance to the ruins. They were heavily armed and they looked dangerous. No doubt they were there to keep people from walking in or ruining the ritual.
Audrey looked at James. “How did you know about this place?” She asked James. She would have never guessed that this place existed. She wondered how long this place had existed. She looked at the ruins. They did look very old. She looked at the Black Hands outside the ruins. “How do we get Emily out of there now?” She asked. She couldn’t see how they could get her out. There were a few Black Hands outside the entrance with four horses. Once the horses made noises, the rest of the Black Hands and whoever rode the horses would find out about the two of them and would go after them.
Before James could speak, Gabriel appeared in front of them. “Did you really think that you would be able to enter the ruins without drawing attention to yourself?” Gabriel asked the two teens. Neither of the teens answered. Gabriel sighed and turned to face the entrance of the ruins. “Did you two even have a plan once you rescued Emily?” He asked. Once again, there was no response. Gabriel’s eyes glowed gray and the Black Hands and the four horses fell to the ground asleep.
“If we are going to carry out this plan, we’ll need to be very careful.” Gabriel told the two. “We have an entire army of Black Hands in there, the Magician, Kat and the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse between us and Emily. Depending on how far they’ve gotten with the ritual, we might have to fight the Darkness in his weakest form.” Audrey looked at James.
James still had a determined look on his face. “We can use magic on all of them.” He told Gabriel.
Gabriel looked at him. “If anyone is going to be using magic against the Magician, it’ll be me.” He told. “The Magician is possibly the most powerful Black Hand in there besides the Darkness. We need to hope that the Darkness won’t be in there when we go in.”
In the ruins, the Man with the German Accent went up to Emily and raised a dagger. “Your blood will be used to bring back the Darkness.” He told her. Just as he was about to bring down his dagger on her, a gray fog entered the amphitheater. Several of the Black Hands looked at the entrance to the amphitheater. “What’s going on?” One of the Black Hands shouted. The Man with the German Accent looked towards the entrance as well. He had to complete this ritual.
Black Hands started falling to the ground. The Man with the German Accent looked at Caterina. “Find out who’s doing this!” He shouted. Caterina nodded and tied a scarf over her mouth and nose. She looked at a few Black Hands and motioned them to follow her. They went into the entrance as Black Hands quickly covered their mouths to avoid breathing in the fog. The Man with the German Accent noticed that the fog only caused the Black Hands to fall asleep. He realized that Gabriel had to be in the tunnel. He turned to the rest of his Black Hands that were still awake. “We’re being attacked.” He told them. “Get your guns out.”
Outside the ruins, Audrey saw her phone turning back on. She realized that with the ritual being interrupted, the power was coming back on. She realized that she could even up the fight by calling the police. It would help Gabriel and James get Emily easier.
In the tunnel, Gabriel and James started knocking out the Black Hands. Caterina was watching the two fight her Black Hands. She ran towards the amphitheater. “It’s Gabriel and one of his followers!” She shouted.
The Man with the German Accent looked at the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. “Go after them!” He shouted. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse raised their weapons and marched into the tunnel. The Man with the German Accent looked at his Black Hands. “Get ready! While they deal with the two intruders, the rest of us will get back to the ritual!” His Black Hands began to cheer nervously.
In the tunnel, Gabriel and James saw the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse heading towards them. The four looked very dangerous and serious. Gabriel looked at James. “I’ll take these four.” He told James. “You go save Emily.” James wanted to protest but he realized that Gabriel was right. He would have a better chance fighting the Black Hands than he would have fighting the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He hid quickly as Gabriel made his weapons appear. As soon as Gabriel started fighting the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, James ran towards the amphitheater.
In the amphitheater, the Man with the German Accent was about to bring his dagger down into Emily’s heart when the fog on the ground rose towards the Black Hands. The Man with the German Accent made a barrier around him and Emily as the Black Hands began to panic. The Man with the German Accent watched his Black Hands fall to the ground unconsciously. The Man with the German Accent looked around for Caterina. There was no sign of Bastet’s daughter. He gritted his teeth. She must have fled while the Horsemen of the Apocalypse went into the tunnel.
The Man with the German Accent looked at Emily’s frightened face. “I shall complete the ritual tonight.” He said to her angrily. “With or without the Black Hand and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse present.” He was about to bring the dagger down on Emily’s heart when he was thrown into the fog by an invisible force.
Emily looked around as she struggled against the chains. To her relief, James appeared over her. “You’re safe now.” James told her as he broke Emily’s chains.
Emily sighed and hugged James tightly. “You found me.” She said.
James nodded and he held her there. “We’re getting you back to the camp now.” He told her. The two of them ran out of the amphitheater as the fog cleared.
In the tunnel, Gabriel kept fighting the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. None of them were giving up the fight. Gabriel was using his magic to help him fight the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. H would use his magic to shield his back as he fought whoever was in front of him. As they were fighting, the Horseman of Pestilence looked away. Gabriel looked at the Horseman of Pestilence. What was going on? Without warning, the Horseman of Pestilence looked at the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse. “We need to go.” To Gabriel’s surprise, it was a girl’s voice. That was when he heard what she must have been hearing: police sirens. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse looked at Gabriel. “Let us go.” The Horseman of the Pestilence told Gabriel. “The Darkness hasn’t risen up yet. We’ll let you and your friends go if you let us go.” She continued.
Gabriel thought about it before he nodded. He was more curious about who she was instead of fighting them. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ran down the tunnel to the exit of the ruins. He watched the Horseman of Pestilence. She sounded like a little girl. His heart sank as he realized something. He took his phone out and dialed the camp. “Jasper, it’s me.” I need you to go check on Savannah now.” He had a bad feeling about what Jasper would find.
Emily and James joined Gabriel. “We have Emily.” James told Gabriel. “We need to get out of here before the police show up.” Even he and Emily could hear the police sirens. Gabriel nodded and the three fled the tunnel.
In the amphitheater, the Man with the German Accent watched as the police and SWAT raided the amphitheater. He had woken up and had managed to hide just before they had stormed the place. There was no sign of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He figured that they must have ridden off to wait for the Darkness to give them orders. He couldn’t believe it. Everything that he and the Darkness had planned was ruined. There was no way that they could perform the ritual there again. The place would be under watch. He had failed his master. He disappeared down a secret tunnel away from the amphitheater.
In Savannah’s room, Jasper sighed and leaned against the wall. Savannah was gone. He had gone into the room to find the bed empty and the medical staff on the ground unconscious. He raised his phone back up to his ear. “Gabriel, it’s me. We have a situation.” He said in a heavy voice. “Savannah is missing.”
