Taken by my mate; Second Chance

Chapter 6 - Texting

EVADIENE

I didn’t want him to know I had biasedly picked the spot because it was so close to home. It was a place I went into often after work for quick food on my way home, and if he didn’t show I wouldn’t feel awkward sitting there alone. Now as I drove home I felt a pit in my stomach and I wasn’t sure if it was because I’d made a mistake or because I was already missing him.

Sequoia was pissed when I finally came in, but a chicken later and she forgave me. It wasn’t until after I had done that, changed into pajamas and crawled into bed that I texted Ambrose that I was home safe.

Evadiene- just got in. Didn’t die in fiery death.

Ambrose- I am more than happy to hear that you are safe. I’m just getting in myself.

Evadiene - I didn’t even ask , are you at one of the inns?

Ambrose- no, my boss put me up in his condo. A little… much, for my taste but I could host a party and a half here for sure.

Evadiene - 4 am diner bills on his dime and parties in his condo, my dear Ambrose, are you a bad boy?

I had sent the message too quickly for my brain to rethink and I moved to back pedal real quick.

Ambrose - call me ‘your dear’ again

My brain froze entirely, which was terrible because I needed a come back and I couldn’t think of anything.

Evadiene - maybe tomorrow after work

Ambrose - when are you off? I’ll meet you there. We can get dinfast

Evadiene - dinfast?

Ambrose - do you prefer breakner?

Evadiene - I just sent my morning boss a photo of my broken leg from last year and ‘regretfully’ resigned to work on my health. Do you think he’ll buy it?

Ambrose- are you holding todays calendar?

Evadiene - I could be, I saved the cast. Do you think he’ll ask?

Ambrose- 60/40 . Unless you aren’t the dream employee I think you are, then maybe he’ll just take the out. Was Sequoia upset you were so late with her dinner?

Evadiene – A little, but I made it up to her

I sent a photo of Sequoia tearing apart the small oven roasted chicken from a bowl on the kitchen floor.

Ambrose- that is not a cat that is a leopard. Blink twice if you need help

Evadiene - she is a sweetheart and my only child. If she likes someone I know they’re good people.

Ambrose - well in that case what’s her favourite snack ?

Evadiene - nothing you’re willing to part with lol but no Seriously

Evadiene - the souls of my enemies.

Ambrose - then me and Sequoia will be good friends, together we will eliminate all your enemies

Evadiene - well then it’s a good thing I’m so loved and adored.

Ambrose- I’m not afraid of a little competition

We texted for at least another hour before I fell asleep, waking up to my phone stuck to my face. Apparently I had accidentally sent him a photo of my forehead, which is great.

He had responded in turn with a photo of his own forehead and a goodnight message. It brought an immediate smile to my face and made the angry message from my morning boss slide right off my back

COVYN

From the brighter demeanour I was getting during my weekly progress updates, I knew Spencer had at least seen her. The urge to ask him questions was strong, but so was the urge to run right to her house and grab her myself.

Of course I couldn’t do any of that, I couldn’t even say anything, and I was glad for the curse that made it painful if I acted out of line. Everything needed to play out from here in line with the rules Osric had set out if I had any hope of giving Evadiene the happily ever after she deserved. After I had made the first move, all I could do was sit back and wait to see what Spencer would do to change the outcome.

Ambrose

I texted with Evadiene every day, even when I was at the pack house during the week, until I was back in the city. Then, every Friday after her night job we met up at her diner and chatted until our cheeks ached from smiling and laughing. I was always in before her, saving out booth at the back, and the waitresses would talk to me about how adorable they thought we were together, begging me to never let her go. Of course I didn’t plan on it, but we were taking things slowly and I still hadn’t seen her apartment or invited her to the condo.

After meeting up this way three weeks in a row, on the third night she finally agreed to tell me which club she worked at. It was in a shit neighbourhood but the amazing reviews made me question a lot of its legality. She confessed that the gang presence was high but they paid well and unlike other businesses that paid for protection, the girls always got it for free. I still hated the neighbourhood, and she knew that so never went into detail about the characters she met, but the next week I decided to go check it out for myself.

I warned her I wouldn’t see her in traffic because my meeting got bumped to earlier but we could still go to our diner after she was done work.

Evadiene - its a good thing you told me. I have a private investigator on speed dial and I would have had him looking for you before I passed the waffle house

Ambrose - the waffle house by the bridge or the WA-F-L house in the ghetto by your work (see because the letters in the sign are burnt out)

Ambrose - just trying to gauge what your level of concern would be

Evadiene- honestly it would have probably been faster for me to find you myself

Evadiene - I’d get a vibe from the universe and pull a U-turn in one of the ‘for emergency vehicles only’ cut throughs if needed

Ambrose - well shucks now I regret telling you. I would pay anything to get /that/ call to bail you out of jail

Evadiene - what makes you think you’d be my one call?

Ambrose- because I know your toes would curl to hear what story I’d tell my boss to stick THAT charge on the company card

Evadiene- :-D you’re right, that would make my year. Try not to enjoy your meeting more than my company.

Ambrose - the most any can hope for is second place to you

Evadiene - my dear Ambrose, always the smooth talker

My meetings started and she started her drive to work, but I was content in knowing I’d see her soon.
