Chapter 85 I Am Inexperienced
The following day, Jay went out to meet with Doris once again.
As expected, Doris had given him a cold shoulder.
For the next few days, Doris would maintain her cold disposition. Jay, on the other hand, could not do anything to brighten her mood.
And so, the man came to Charles for help.
Jay's words were enough to make Charles grin maniacally.
"You court women much better than I do. You shouldn't ask me about these things."
"Alas! Charles, don't laugh at what I'm about to say, okay? I've always toyed with women. I really haven't tried to pursue one. I never really needed to chase after women, for they always did their best to woo me. But now, Doris completely ignores me. What the hell should I do?"
Jay threw his a buddy a cigarette. He lit it from Charles' mouth, and then proceeded to light one for himself.
"I think you should ask Nancy about this. Maybe she could give you an advice," Charles said with a phony smile.
"Guess I need to try." Left with no other choice, Jay agreed with Charles' idea.
After some time, Nancy returned with their two little kids.
"Daddy, Mommy said you will be discharged from the hospital. We can all go home now!" Nadia shook off Nancy's hand and ran towards Charles.
"Good girl. Daddy can finally leave the hospital and come home," Charles said before he lovingly kissed Nadia.
"That's great!" Jay said somewhat enviously.
Nancy felt a bit of unease in her heart. She really wanted to be with Charles, and have him around for those two children.
But she knew that they would have to split up once Charles was out of the hospital.
She couldn't be with him anymore.
She really couldn't continue to be with him!
"I haven't seen Doris in quite a while. How is she doing lately?" Nancy asked politely. Doris used to call her every now and then. But lately, Doris had been quite distant.
"Well, she... Well... I can't really explain it in a few words! "With a slight shade of embarrassment, Jay said, "I think I'm in love with her. So what should I do, sister-in-law?"
"Don't call me sister-in-law. I'll help you figure it out," Nancy said.
"But..." Jay stroked his hair shyly and took a glance at Charles.
Charles' face made his concession obvious.
"Just tell me what to do. I'll treat you later... No, I will treat your whole family to a big meal. Okay?" Jay pleaded.
However, Nancy was still unmoved.
"Mommy, I think that sounds great." Although Bobby was not interested in food, he was curious to know how would Jay treat them.
"Yes, Mommy. I think you should help Uncle Jay. He needs your help!"
Nadia had been getting along with Bobby lately. They were inseparable even in their kindergarten. She had somehow became his sidekick.
So when Nadia heard what Bobby had said, she immediately seconded his opinion.
"Alright, I will tell you her weak spot for the sake of the children!" Nancy got lost in her thoughts for a moment. She then added, "But if you aim to simply have fun, I advise you to stay away from Doris. She is not the type of woman who you should provoke."
"I swear, I'm serious about Doris. I'm not going to mess around with her," Jay said as he waved his hands and made a vow.
"Those are your words. Did you all hear what Jay had said?" Nancy looked at everyone in the room and asked.
"Yeah, we all heard it," Charles and the twins said in unison.
"Fine! Jay, listen... Doris has a soft spot for people who cry. She would not dare dismiss you if you cry in front of her. In fact, you just need to learn how to show vulnerability. You had always presented yourself as someone who's strong; Doris is a strong person. When two strong souls collide with each other, a standoff arises-not romance. As a man, you should learn to be soft sometimes," Nancy explained.
To put it bluntly, Doris was straight and Jay was arrogant. If one of them would soften down, then so would the other.
Nancy did not want her friend to cave in for Jay. She wanted the man to show the first signs of vulnerability.
Well, that was the fairest way to let things develop.
"That's all?" Jay asked in disbelief.
"Well, that's it!" Nancy said.
"Okay, I'll give it a try." Jay was initially unsatisfied with Nancy's advice. But soon enough, he was convinced that he needed to give it a shot.
"Uncle Jay, when will you treat us to a big meal?" Nadia asked as she tilted her head.
"What if it doesn't work?" Jay sounded melancholy.
"She's playing hard to get, don't you get it?" Nancy said. People had always believed that once a woman fell in love, she would lose all of her sensibilities. But in reality, men were far more stupid when they were in love. In the past few years, Jay had been engaged with a lot of women, but he still hadn't figured out the easiest way to deal with women!
To be honest, it was quite pathetic!
Nancy's advice sounded reasonable, but girls were always good in hiding their motives. Of course, Nancy sided with Doris; Jay was too blind to see that.
Nancy looked at Charles playfully. She was rarely devious, but she felt that Jay had meddled with people she truly cared for. Any sane person would be agitated.
"Playing hard to get, huh? Charles, is that how you get Nancy?" Jay laughed dissolutely.
Charles squinted his eyes and smiled. He then said, "We already have children. We don't need schemes of that sort."
Nancy blushed.
If Doris had been impregnated that night, it would have been much easier for Jay to chase her, wouldn't it?
In that moment, Jay thought, 'God bless her. Make her pregnant. "Jay, help Nancy get packed and go home," Charles ordered, putting the papers down and kneading his forehead.
"Okay." Jay then walked towards Nancy and said, "So, tell me, what can I do for you, sister-in-law?"
"I have packed up my belongings. You can take Charles in the car in a while. Oh, and also, watch after Bobby along the way." Nancy had a strong aversion to being called "sister-in-law". However, it seemed that she couldn't force Jay to stop calling her that, and so she simply let Jay do so.
"And you?" Charles unpleasantly asked Nancy.
"I'll be taking Nadia home, of course," Nancy answered.
"So, you're not coming with me?" Charles pondered.
"Yes..." Nancy said briefly. Nancy didn't think there was anything wrong with what she wanted. "Oh, if you need a doctor, I can find a one for you."
"No, all I want is you!" Charles said arrogantly.
"But I..."
"I'm the boss here. You decide!" Charles had a very stern tone.
Nancy was speechless.
"Mommy, I want to go home with Daddy." Nadia was like Charles' little helper.
"Mommy, come home with us!" Bobby pleaded.
"Sister-in-law, don't be so stubborn. Just go with them to the Fu residence," Jay said as he pushed Charles' wheelchair.
The two little kids spoke in unison. "Mommy, the majority rule works."
Nancy felt like she was being kidnapped.
Conversely, she thought to herself that she could live in the house temporarily. Especially because Charles needed someone to take care of him.
"Charles, listen to me, I'll leave with Nadia once you have fully recovered." Nancy put forward her terms in front of the man.
