chapter 473
Chapter 473 Rot in Jail
Halle's words stunned Lucia dumb
She had wished to dig something out of Hallie by mentioning the woman's family, but it turned out that Hafke was orphan
That will not work!
But Lucia didn't want to give up She wouldn't return empty-handed. She tried to convince Hallie with reasons, with emotional appeals, and even with threats. However, none worked.
The visiting time was coming to an end.
Before she left, she looked back at the sallow-faced woman and couldn't help trembling in anger However, she couldn't do anything except watching the police take her away.
She had planned to extract information from Hallie since she couldn't get any clues from Jeanne However, Jeanne's plan was so watertight that she couldn't find any flaws that could allow her to obtain any useful information
Lucia felt a sense of powerlessness Clock was licking as the time to send Paula abroad for treatment was approaching Once they left, it would only be more difficult for them to continue the investigation when they could return home after Paula recovered.
I don't want to give up! I can't give up!
Lucia felt downhearted when she came out of the visiting room When she wanted to say "thank you" to Officer Rogers, she suddenly found a man standing by a corridor window not far away.
She could only see the man's back. The suit set off his perfect V-shape body, which exuded an extraordinary aura:
Lucia's heart skipped a beat
She recognized the man merely by looking at his back. He was August!
What on earth is he doing here?
Before she could figure it out, August and Officer Rogers had turned to her direction When they saw her, they were both surprised
Soon, Officer Rogers said smilingly. “It seems that you've finished your visit
Lucia nodded. She had intended to say something, but her desire to speak was smothered when she saw August's bright eyes. She then lowered her head and remained silent
August turned to Officer Rogers at this time and said, "Officer, then it's my turn"
Officer Rogers nodded and said half-jokingly, “This Hallie is really popular So many visitors looking for her in single day”
Officer Rogers's words shocked Lucia
August also came for Hallie! Is he looking into it? He also wants to get anything from Hallie? Seeing the man following Officer Rogers, Lucia braced herself up and caught up with them.
Officer Rogers was surprised. "Ms. Mitchell, you are?"
Lucia gasped and said, "Can I go in together? I will just listen. I won't talk!"
Officer Rogers was amused by her words. "That won't do, Ms'
Lucia frowned. She turned to August and found him staring at her.
They looked at each other, both with complicated feelings. Lucia wanted to plead him, but she just couldn't utter her pleads. She gritted her teeth and drew the silence longer.
August looked at her and turned to Officer Rogers. "Let her come in with me, please.”
Officer Rogers hesitated. He swept his gaze through August and Lucia and he finally said, "Since you've said so, I can't heartlessly refuse.”
He then waved his hand, "Go ahead."
Lucia was overjoyed and thanked the officer repeatedly.
She might have unexpected discoveries for being an observer.
She entered the visiting room with Lucia. Hallie was sitting on the same chair, head lowered. Her hair covered most of her face
August sat opposite the convict and said coldly, "Hallie Bruns, I'll give you one chance to confess” Lucia produced a faint sneer as she heard August's words.
She had resorted to both mild and severe measures during her turn to investigate this woman. And all her measures failed.
Is August naively thinking that he could make this woman speak so easily?
As Lucia had expected, Hallie remained silent.
August leaned against the back of his chair in a leisure manner, and continued, "Speak it out. It's good to yourself I'll give you three minutes."
As he finished speaking, dead silence occupied the room. One minute, two minutes, three minutes.. The finger of the clock hanging on the wall was moving slowly. The atmosphere in the room was frighteningly oppressive. Lucia stood aside and looked at August as he idly sat there.
She frowned. What the hell is he thinking? What can he get from this dumb?
Suddenly, August sat straight and said indifferently. "Time is up. It seems that you are still unwilling to confess. Covering up crimes for a stranger, don't you feel guilty to your little sister?"
His words gave Hallie a strong shudder. She looked up in panic and shock "What. what do you want?"
Lucia was no less stunned than Hallie.
Didn't she say that she was orphan? Where does that sister come from?
"I want nothing. I said so merely out of kindness. I just want to show you how your sister is now." As he said so, he leisurely took out a photo from the inner pocket of his suit, and placed the photo in front of Hallie.
A short-haired girl was on the photo. She looked pale and painful. Wearing an oversized hospital gown, she curled up under the bed like a frightened and helpless little hare.
Hallie was stunned for seconds when she saw the photo. But, soon, she looked up at August, showing fright and vigilance. "What the hell do you want?"
August crossed his legs and again leaned backwards against the back of the chair. He said unhurriedly, "I just want to see how important your sister means to you. That's all.”
Then, he grabbed a corner of the photo and took out a lighter from his pocket. With a simple press, flame began dancing on the lighter's nozzle.
Hallie's entire body was taut. She stared at August, but didn't say a word.
"Tell me the truth and I'll ensure your and your sister's safety. But, if you refuse to tell me, I will make you rot in jail. More than that, your sister will be kicked out of the hospital as she is unabe to pay the hospital bills!"
He said the most terrifying words in the gentlest tone. In an instance, Hallie's face had turned pale She subconsciously shook her head. 'No' It's impossible! He promised me that he would pay for the surgery!”
Before she finished speaking, she suddenly realized what she had said, and shut up.
But it was too late.
The information showed within her words was enough for August and Lucia
Lucia also heard everything. She asked agitatedly. "Who promised you that? Who is he?"
Halle knew that she had let things slip. She kept shaking her head and refused to utter a word.
The room was again shrouded in silence. August's face looked darker than before He fixed his eyes on Hallie
After waiting for a while, he asked coldly, "Are you sure you don't want to speak?"
Hallie lowered her head and become motionless
August then lit the opposite corner of the photo
Soon, a large part of the photo turned into ashes
Halhe finally looked up When she saw her sister's photo burning, she was panicked "What the hell do you want?"
