Still alive?

Chapter 5

In 2000 AD, on the eve of the New Year – the Apocalypse was promised to happen at midnight, accompanied by the sound of holiday music and the celebratory drinking of champagne. In 2012, the Mayan calendar ended, and the long-awaited and inevitable Apocalypse came to pass. The whole world was trembling, waiting for the dreaded button to be pushed. because the Doomsday clock moved 2 minutes before the nuclear explosion, as the news said ...

... Therefore, instead of the usual greetings on the dating site, Max sarcastically asked Mia:

“Still alive?”

... These words suddenly revived her from hibernation.

“What? Am I alive? Yes, I’m only 22 years old!”

On a small photograph, Mia saw a young man with blue eyes and a mysterious smile.

“Yes, of course I’m alive!” – Mia replied.

“It’s just that you never answer me,” the young man continued. “Can I call you?”.

“Ok,” Mia thought – out of boredom she agreed to a telephone conversation.

On the phone came a beautiful velvety voice of a young man, similar to the peppy voice of a morning TV-shows host.

“Max,” he introduced himself.

“Musk?” Mia joked.

“No, Max. And you?” Max asked.

“Mia.” Mia answered.

“Mine?” Max giggled.

“Not yours. Mia.” She corrected.

“Not mine yet ...” Max joked.

... All evening Max and Mia chatted about nothing and everything at the same time.

Max started calling Mia every day. He turned out to be a very interesting person. They chatted about food, travel - about everything in the world. In a velvety voice, he told her about the future, about new technological innovations and technological conferences. Max could spend hours talking about his new high-tech startup.

It was as if they had known each other for ages, though they had never met.

Once, Mia ran so fast to a lecture that her small white laptop fell directly onto the pavement. In the laptop there were books and scientific articles. The laptop began to fail, and she urgently needed someone to repair it.

Max called in the evening:

“Mia, do you know about the planet Nibiru?”

“No, Max.” Mia replied.

Max explained, “The mysterious Nibiru is mentioned for the first time in ancient Sumerian manuscripts. According to texts and figures: the solar system consists of 12 planets orbiting the sun. According to the Sumerians, Nibiru is a gigantic space object with an elongated orbit.”

“So what?” Mia asked.

Max answered, “The next end of the world is predicted at the end of the year – ‘Planet X’ or Nibiru will collide with the Earth and destroy our world. Given the fact that Nibiru previously tried to “disguise” itself from our surveillance, and now is openly out there – we can conclude we are talking about reconnaissance before a full-scale invasion of our planet and the destruction of humanity.”

“And if this planet really exists, can we be saved?” Mia asked.

Max answered, “Unfortunately, it will not be possible to neutralize the Nibiru star system with available weapons: neither missile shots nor laser guns will help - they can knock off a lone asteroid, but are powerless against the whole system. And people can only hope that the presence of Nibiru will cost them minimal death. According to the predictions of the ancient Sumerians: humanity will be forced to go underground and wait for the departure of the merciless Annunaki. And only after that, will it be possible to revive civilization - until the next arrival of aliens in 3600 years.”

“Okay, Max. If that’s what you believe?” Mia responded.

“Besides, Mia, we can die at any moment. Life is short. We should meet and take a walk around the city?” Max modestly suggested.

“You’ve persuaded me, Max,” Mia agreed.

“I urgently need to repair this laptop,” she thought, “and Max is a complete nerd. Maybe he can help repair it.”

“Let’s meet in the city center. Near McDonald’s,” Max suggested.

“Good,” Mia agreed.

“It’s just a walk around the block,” Mia thought to herself. “I’m not going to fall in love, I just need someone to repair my laptop. Take a walk and have fun.”
