She Cried Wolf (OLD)

Chapter Part 20

~Jackson~

You know that feeling you get when you know something bad is going to happen? That feeling of dread that pools in your stomach and weighs the same as a bowling ball? The feeling that makes you sick and keeps you up at night? That makes you want to cry and scream and run and hide all at the same time? That’s the feeling I got when my phone buzzed with an incoming text from an unknown number.

Missing something?

A picture was sent with it. My blood chills when I see it. Ashley is sitting in a chair slumped forward. A new text pops up.

Your lovely pack member helped me get her. I have her to thank for this.

My office door burst open and Daniel storms in. “That bitch handed her over to them. I knew I shouldn’t have allowed them to go alone. Now, they’ve taken her from me again,” his face is red with anger and his words hit like swords.

My phone rings with an incoming call before I can respond.

“Hello?”

“Kitten! Baby, where are you?”

“Jackson, I’m scared. Sy-” she gets cut off.

“That’s enough of that. Now, let me introduce myself, I am Harry. King of rouges.” the new voice says. I nearly drop my phone.

“Harry. What do you need my mate for?” I growl into the phone.

He chuckles. “Well, I don’t need your mate. I want your mate. So I have her.”

“What are you going to do to her?” I question.

“Well, your little mate is smelling oh so sweet with her upcoming heat, So we will be having some fun,”

I curse. I completely forgot about the female heat.

“You won’t touch her. I’ll kill you if you do,”

He clicks his tongue.

“Oh, how I’ve missed your threats. Now as much as I love talking with you, I must get back to my very helpful mate, whom you know as Sydney. Ta-ta Little cousin,” The line goes dead.

~Ashley~

You know what’s funny? Finally trusting someone after years and years of building walls and sheltering yourself. Finally allowing that wall to break down and letting people in. Actually, you know what? It’s not funny at all. Because in my experience, the world repays you by shooting burning fireballs at you left and right. It waits until you think you can be happy, and finally have people you trust; then when you least expect it, it throws a major plot twist into an already screwed-up story. But, I guess it’s not really a plot twist if it’s something you should have expected.

My eyes open to a dark room. I lift my head, but my mind swirls with drowsiness. I can make out Sydneys face through the haze. “Sydney? What’s going on?” I manage to ask. She smirks and opens her mouth to respond.

“Oh, Good! You’re awake,” a new voice cuts in. My head has finally cleared enough that I can focus. Standing in front of me is a rugged-looking man. He’s got feral-looking eyes and a face that you’d see in your nightmares. “W-whats g-going on? W-where a-am I?” I squeak out. The man chuckles. Though it sounds more like a cackle. “Oh, my dear. I am Harry. And this is my mate. She helped me get you,” His chest puffs and he stands taller as he introduces himself. Before I can respond a phone is shoved up to my ear.

“Hello?” I question.

“Kitten! Baby, where are you?” Jackson’s voice booms through the speaker.

“Jackson, I’m scared. Sy-” I get cut off. The phone suddenly removed from my ear.

“That’s enough of that. Now, let me introduce myself, I am Harry. King of rouges.”

He walks from the room and continues his conversation with my mate. Sydney glares at me. I narrow my eyes at her. “Don’t you glare at me. I did nothing to you. You’re the one who kidnapped me.” I growl at her. Her face morphs into one of anger as she stalks towards me.

“You survived. That attack on your fourth birthday was meant to kill you. That way when Harry turned 15, he could take the throne. But because you survived, the power stayed within you. And now my mate is obsessed with you.” her face is inches from mine as she finishes. “That’s not my fault. Besides, Harry doesn’t deserve to rule. Anyone. Ever.” I smirk at her expression. Her face is red and her eyes flash.

In a blur, a burning sensation spreads across my cheek. “You wipe that smirk off your face.” She walks over to a small table and lifts up a syringe. My eyes follow the sharp object in her hand and she walks back up to me. After moving my hair aside she positions the sharp point to my neck. A pushing sensation enters my mind. Jackson is trying to talk to me. Just as I feel his presence the needle is plunged into my neck.

All at once, Jackson vanishes and Raja is locked into a cage. “What the hell did you just put into me?” I question, panicked. “Oh, just a little something to dull your connections. You won’t be able to mind-link or shift.” She seems giddy. Harry walks back into the room. “I just couldn’t wait to inject her, so I went ahead and did it,” Sydney announces to her mate. Harry looks angry.

“I don’t know what you want with me, but you won’t win. You aren’t fit to rule. Not even as a rouge king. Which by the way, isn’t even a real thing.” I force myself to seem confident, don’t allow myself to stutter. Harry’s face morphs into anger. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. Just ask your parents,” He motions to the door and in walk Lydia and Jake. After a brief moment of panic, I clear my face of any emotion. On the outside, I’m the definition of tough. But on the inside, I’m terrified.

Whew. Chapter 20 is in the books! I think this was probably one of my favorite chapters to write. I’ve been messing with my writing style a bit because I feel like my writing is too soft. I’m not a violent person who cusses and rebels all the time, so my normal writing matches my personality. But I feel in order to get the full message, I need to toughen my writing. So that’s what I’m doing.

I’ve also realized that there are major plot holes throughout the story. Once I get the book completely finished, I will be doing construction on SCW.

Anywho, If you haven’t already, pop on up to the previous chapter for some minorly important announcements!

--Thank’s for reading, and as always, Stay sweet :p

P.s Don’t be afraid to like, comment, or follow!

P.p.s- If you like the storyline of SCW go check out my short story Overcoming. The first part can be read below:

The girl stands on the edge of the bridge, looking down at the rushing water below. Tears blur her vision. Her mind drifts as she thinks back to the events that lead her to this point. It all started with a boy. The boy who made her feel loved at the start. But all good things must come to an end...right?

(It's really super short. No more than 5,000 words.)
