Chapter 7- The scars we hide
Noah POV,
I take out my phone and see it's now five thirty, sigh my stomach feels uneasy. I can't believe I'm doing this! What am I thinking? Maybe I should get out of here, I'll text her saying I wasn't feeling well or something! No, no I have to do this! It's the right thing to do! I shift uneasily in my chair.
"Oh, Hey!" Lacey walks over and sets her purse down beside her, she huffs out a sigh and fixes her bangs. "So, sorry I'm late! Practice was longer than usual."
"N-no it's okay." She tilts her head at me.
"Have you at least ordered anything?"
"N-no I'm... not hungry..."
"Oh, well I'm going to go order, do you want something to drink?"
"No...I'm not really thirsty." She looks at me oddly for a bit. My heart is racing and my hands are sweaty. I look over to where Lacey is standing, the line is short. I let a couple of breaths, okay I can do this! Ugh, I feel like I'm going to puke! She walks over with a drink and medium sized bag. I'll tell her when she's done eating, Lacey talks about the big game she's going to have and how some girls on the team aren't carrying their weight. I gulp.
"Like, you signed up for this! You chose to do this! So why is it so hard to put in your effort?" My heart pounds faster as She goes on.
"Lacey! I think we should break up!" I blurt. She sits there frozen in shock.
"What?" She asks softly, while running a hand through her hair.
"You're beautiful, sweet, and funny-
"Then what's the problem?" She leans back and crosses her arms over her torso.
"I..it's just that I...have feelings for someone else." Her mouth falls open and her pupils dilate.
"Since when?"
"I don't know when..."
"Who is it?"
"Lacey..."
"Who is it!" I sigh.
"Hannah." She bows her head and reaches her fingers on her temples.
"Noah, I...I asked you if you!-"
"I know Lacey, I just...I didn't know..."
"You didn't know? Or you weren't sure?" I open my mouth to say something but nothing comes out. I knew deep down for a while I just didn't want to admit it. She starts shoving things in her bag. She lifts her purse over her shoulder and stomps out. The door slams on the way out.I let out a loud sigh and cover my neck with my hands.
Hannah POV, In the morning I get a text from Lola.
"Hey can u come over? It's important!"
Huh? What's going on?
"Just come over and we'll talk." Weird, I wonder what's up? I wonder if dad would mind dropping me off. I'm supposed to be helping with labeling and more packing. I creak down the stairs slowly. Dad is dragging bins from the basement out,
"Hannah!" He walks in front of the bing to block my view from seeing what's inside. He looks up at me guilty. Should I even ask?
"Dad, is it okay if you drop me off at Lola's house?"
"Of course just call me when you want me to pick you up."
"You sure? I can stay for a bit and help you pack?"
"No, no it's fine. Just get ready and have your phone on you." I pick the first clothes I spot, lately I'm not in a dressy mood. I run my hair through a comb and head downstairs. My dad drops me off at Lola's. I knock on the door, no answer. I knock again, nothing. My heart starts pounding, I don't like this. I twist the door knob and the door swings open, why is her door open?
"H-hello?" It's dark in here? Why is it so dark if she's supposed to be home? Oh no, no, no, no no! He said-that...he wouldn't do anything! I didn't tell them anything! "Lola!" I call out. Please answer, "Lola!" I call out again almost on the brink of tears.
"SURPRISE!" A group of voices shout, the lights switch on. I hold my hand over my heart.
"Did we scare you?" Justin teases. More than you think, I let out a small laugh. Lola runs over and hugs me.
"I'm sorry for the way we all acted that day." She pulls away and looks at Justin and...Noah.
"Don't be, you guys had every right to be." I shake my head.
"No, none of us once considered how it must've been for you when you first heard the news!" Lola looks at Justin.
"She's right Han, the fact is your moving and there's nothing we can do about it." Justin goes on.
"So we just have to make the best of it." Noah adds. I look at all of them and smile, Lola looks around in pride. She rounded everyone up here just to make it up to me, I could never repay her for this. With everything falling apart, in this moment, it's as if everythings in place. We put on a comedy and laughed so hard. Things between me and Noah are a bit strained but he was still able to smile at me. At the end of the "party" they all gave me a big group hug Lola suggested a selfie to remember this day. She would later on send to my phone,
"I'm going to miss you all so much!" I say with tears in my eyes.
"We'll keep in touch Han." Lola smiles at me sweetly.
"I know you will!" He mocks. Lola slaps his shoulder playfully. Noah looks at me from far away. I walk up to him.
"Noah, I'm sorry about...everything but I hope that we can still at least be-"He pulls me in for a hug.
"Take care Hannah." He said softly to me. I'm just happy we're now all on good terms. My dad pulls up and I pull away from Noah. I wave goodbye at them again, knowing that it would be the last time I say goodbye to them. When we arrive home, dad tells me when the moving truck will arrive. Since I took a nap earlier I woke up early, and decided to pack. Even though I'm still a bit hurt by my dad I can't be mad at him forever. Little by little we start making conversation. After everything's packed we're off to the airport, the movers thank us for our help and drive off. Once we reach the plane sleep take's over me, when I wake up the plane has landed. We walk out the plane and head into the airport after we get our bags and everything my dad calls an uber. I fall asleep some more,
"Han, Han, HANNAH" Groan, "Were here." I was way too tired to actually take in the sight of the new house.
