Chapter 98

With that in mind, Yara changed course, propelling her body downward

It was as if she could almost feel the shark’s breath on her neck as she swam, not daring to look back. In the nick of time, she squeezed into the hole.

Crash!

The shark slammed into the space she had just vacated, sending vibrations through the coral. The force of the impact bent Yard’s arm back, and pain shot through her.

Yara tested her arms and was relieved to find she could still move them. She decided to wait for the shark to take off before moving to the surface.

However, in just a few minutes, she could tell the oxygen was getting the hat did not make any sense. The coach had said a tank was good for at least three hours. How could it be empty already?

Her oxygen tank ran out too fast, and that shark was still around.

A cold sweat broke out on Yara’s forehead. Just when she thought she could not last longer, the shark finally took the hint and left.

With the tank on her back, she pushed herself to float up, signaling for help in the direction she was supposed to.

She also hit the rescue button she had with her, hoping to alert the lifeguard

right away.

Unfortunately, no one responded to her signals. Yara knew she could not waste any time. She had to swim up as hard as she could. If she ran out of oxygen, she was done for!

She did not know how long she had been swimming when her movements started to slow. When she began to feel like she was choking, her body went limp and started sinking uncontrollably.

Her eyelids were heavy, and the surface was just within reach. With just a bit more, she would be able to make it.

ara Yara, come on

Rainie pulled Yare to the boat quickly aching the oxygen task and yank down the zipper of her wets

Fresh air rushed into her lungs, and Yara ook huge, greedy gaps

Then her lungs stung like they were full of needles, and she started coughing like crazy, sokong out more water. As the choking sensation faded, Yara finally felt alive again

“You freaked me out I thought you weren’t going to wake up!” Rainie said, patting her back as tears rolled down her cheeks

Yara blinked, her voice raspy from the ordeal as she said, “I’m okay.”

“I didn’t know anything was wrong until I saw your distress signal. It took forever to find you, and you were out cold by the time I did. My brain just froze, and I think I was in shock.”

Rainie shuddered and thumped her chest, still shaken by the memory.

She could not bear to think what might have happened if she had been even second later.

Yara was safe, though, and that thought alone made Rainie wrap her arms around her, letting out a couple of choked sobs. “I was terrified doing CPR on you, scared you’d never come back to me..

Yara coughed lightly and smiled. “So that was you munching on my lips, huh?”

“Cut it out!” Rainie scolded with a mix of worry and relief. “This is no time for jokes!”
