Secret Scion

Chapter 123 -

Asher approached Harlow while saying, "Griffin and I have caused such deep trouble for the Quinns today. I don't have the right to sit next to you."

"Boss, I told you before, didn't I? This incident has nothing to do with you. I was the one who did

it, and you merely helped me with it. You're my brother, so it's natural that you won't just sit there and watch me get beaten up." Upon finishing his words, Griffin turned his icy gaze on Jeremiah, the corner of his lips slightly lifted. "As expected from a kid who has yet to grow up. All he does is run back to his family for help once he has caused trouble. Heh!"

"You're way too arrogant, Griffin! Dad, the way I see it, Griffin absolutely has no intention of acknowledging his mistakes! Let's just leave and report this incident to the police! I don't want to stay here and get berated by him any longer! It's a good thing that Uncle Quinn is also one of the higher-ups at the police station! I'd like to see if he'll personally deal with this situation, given that Griffin has broken the law!" Jeremiah commented with a cold huff.

"Shut up! There's no place for you to speak here!" Hal shot Jeremiah a glare before asking, "Asher, please recount the whole incident to me word for word. What exactly happened?" Asher nodded and started explaining everything. "Well, it went like this, Mr. Macquoid. Jeremiah invited Griffin to a race and set a wager beforehand; the loser had to call the winner their grandfather three times in a row. As you mentioned just now, Mr. Macquoid, since the Macquoids and the Quinns have a long-standing relationship, I don't understand what Jeremiah was thinking back when he set up this wager. I think if anyone else were to stand in Griffin's shoes, they wouldn't be able to tolerate being provoked like this, right? Furthermore, during the race, Jeremiah kept closing in on Griffin's car on purpose. If it wasn't for Griffin stepping on the brakes in time, a severe accident would have occurred today. Breanna, I heard you saying that it's not Jeremiah's fault earlier. Then, pray tell, what would you have done if you were Griffin in that situation?"

Breanna was at a loss for words.

On the other hand, Hal was enraged. "Jeremiah, is Asher speaking the truth? How dare you mess around with your life at stake!"

Jeremiah quickly replied, "Dad, I'm very confident in my racing skills. Besides, I was just trying to scare Griffin. It wasn't as serious as what Asher made it out to be."

Asher interjected with a smile, "Jeremiah, I know you're extremely talented in racing. I won't make any remarks about your confidence in your skills, but Griffin isn't as talented as you. Are you able to take responsibility should anything happen to him? Or could it be that you did that on purpose just so you could involve Griffin in an accident?"

Asher's words automatically made Jeremiah the bearer of all responsibility in this incident. At first, the latter wanted to gain control over the situation, but in an instant, he found himself losing control instead.

Naturally, Jeremiah was quick to panic. No matter what, he could not admit to the fact that he wanted Griffin to be involved in an accident. His emotions already running rampant, he shrieked at the top of his lungs, "Asher, stop spouting nonsense! All I wanted to do was to polish my skills by racing with Griffin! I wasn't thinking down the lines of whatever you said! Grandpa Quinn, don't listen to Asher's bullshit! I think he wants to ruin the relationship between our families!" "I was just stating the facts." Asher glanced in Hal's direction. "Mr. Macquoid, that's what happened. After that, Griffin was overcome by anger, hence his unwise decision to use inappropriate methods to resolve the problem. I admit that both of us are the ones at fault in this case. Hence, we'll pay the compensation fees based on the original price of the car. Oh, by the way, we'll also foot Jeremiah's medical bills as well."

Cornelius followed Asher's trail of thought and suggested, "What do you think about that, Mr. Macquoid?"

Hal was about to blow his lid on the inside. Since when did Asher become a sharp-tongued brat? It was Griffin's fault at first, but that brat was able to make it sound as if Jeremiah was the one who attempted to create an accident for Griffin. The crime that Jeremiah would be charged with would be severe.

At that moment, even the older Macquoid was unable to do anything about the situation. Hence, he could only reply, "Mr. Quinn, I know Jeremiah very well. Even though the things he does may be out of line, he doesn't wish harm upon anyone at all. I think we'll just let bygones be bygones. It's just a car anyway, so it's not a loss to us. As long as this incident doesn't affect our families' relationship, then all is well."

Asher was waiting for Hal to utter those words.

Cornelius pretended to smile bashfully before replying, "You're a generous man with a big heart, Mr. Macquoid. I'm honestly impressed by your character. How about this? Please wait here for a few moments while I order my chefs to whip up a good meal for you."

"We'll skip the meal, thank you very much. We have plenty of opportunities to catch up over food and drinks in the future. Old Mr. Quinn, we'll have to take our leave now. I'll make sure to punish Jeremiah properly once I get back. Goodbye." After he was done speaking, Hal got up and left the living room hurriedly. Jeremiah and Breanna followed suit, all looking very dejected. "Boss, you sure are amazing! If it wasn't for you, Hal wouldn't have let this matter go so easily! Haha!" Griffin snickered.

Cornelius added, "Asher, you really are different compared to your past self. Haha!"

Asher just replied with a nonchalant wave, "I was just speaking the truth, Uncle Quinn. Jeremiah is the one at fault in the first place. I won't make it easy for him to conceal the truth and come up with his own version of nonsense."

"That might be the truth, but your way of wording it versus Griffin's way of explaining himself would cause different outcomes to this incident." Cornelius turned to look at Griffin, the smile on his face instantly faded. "Griffin, how dare you! You sure have the balls to thrash even the Macquoids' car, huh! I won't let you off the hook this easily!"

At that moment, Harlow suddenly spoke up in a deep voice. "Griffin, from today onward, you'll be grounded for one month! Make sure to reflect on yourself at home! As for you, Cornelius, as a father, you're responsible for your son's actions as well! I think you should take the time to do some self-reflecting too!"

Cornelius nodded hurriedly and agreed with Harlow. "You're right, Father. I'll definitely keep a close eye on Griffin in the future and make sure he won't cause us any trouble anymore. Father, if there's nothing else, I'll be taking my leave."

"Grandpa..." Griffin was about to say something when Cornelius pushed him out of the door. Asher turned around to look at Griffin. Then, he said with a smile, "Grandpa Quinn, please calm down. Griffin may be a little brash, but he mostly takes after you. He's fair, just, and would never bow his head to anyone. If it wasn't for Jeremiah trying to cause him trouble, this incident wouldn't have happened today."

"Asher, let's sit down and have a chat." Harlow beckoned at Asher. "Griffin has always been spoiled by this family since he was a kid. Even though he may be fair and just, this personality of his will also bring him disadvantages. If he doesn't reel himself in, he will definitely be taken advantage of in the future."

He continued with a sigh, "My generation is already old. Your generation will have to rely on yourselves in the future. Griffin acts too rashly all the time, which worries me a lot. I'd like to use this opportunity for him to reflect on himself. Asher, it's been two years since we last met. I see that you've changed a lot. You used to act the same way as Griffin. This means that you must've suffered a lot over the past two years, right?"

Asher replied with a faint smile, "All actions contribute to different consequences. Naturally, I had to pay the price of my own actions back then."

Harlow gazed at Asher with a meaningful expression. In the end, he nodded sagely. "It seems that you've truly matured. Solomon didn't waste all these years educating you, it seems. If only Griffin can turn out to be as excellent as you, Asher, then I'll be reassured. However, this stupid brat has never respected anyone due to the fact that my family has a decent status, wealth, and power. If he dares to thrash the Macquoids' car today, does that mean tomorrow he'll be bold enough to set fire to people's houses and start killing sprees everywhere? I won't allow him to continue doing whatever he wants!"

"Grandpa Quinn, it's obvious that you care about Griffin a lot. I know that he'll come to understand your intentions."

"I hope that's the case," Harlow replied with a sigh.

It was already evening by the time Asher left the Quinn residence. On his way home, he gave Noelle a call. They ended up talking on the phone for a very long time. Only when Asher reached home did he hang up on Noelle.

Since the Macquoid family had gone all the way to the Quinn residence to demand an explanation regarding the incident, that meant Asher's grandfather should know about it as well, right?

Asher headed toward Solomon's courtyard straight away.

"Grandpa, I have something to tell you." Even though Solomon's room was brightly lit, Asher did not barge into his room straight away. Instead, he knocked on the door lightly and announced his presence.

"Is it about what happened at the club? I know all about it. Return to your room and get some rest," Solomon replied.

Since the elderly man had no intention to berate Asher, he did not wish to stay there any longer. After grunting in response, Asher turned on his heel and left.

The next noon, Huxley took some time off just to go home and have lunch with his parents. The whole car-thrashing incident was a hot topic in the Capital City; naturally, Huxley had heard of it as well. Having lunch with his family was not his main goal. He wanted to use this opportunity to pry more information about the incident. Typically speaking, Solomon would have administered punishment to Asher due to his involvement.

"Dad, how is it possible for you to not know about an incident as major as this?" Huxley gaped at Liam in astonishment. "Dad, Asher and Griffin thrashed Jeremiah Macquoid's car! How is it possible for our family to not react to this piece of news?"

Liam's confused look was more than enough to answer Huxley's question. "It's true that we've not heard of this incident."

Huxley's mother harrumphed coldly before adding her two cents into this matter. "Hmph! Isn't this obvious? Dad must have suppressed this matter on purpose. Asher caused such a huge problem for our family, and yet he gets away scot-free because Dad tolerates his actions! If anyone else were to do the same thing, Dad would've administered the family rules on the perpetrator! From the way I see it, Dad is being biased toward Asher!"

Upon hearing his mother's words, Huxley could not help but feel rage flooding through his nerves. He placed the cutlery back on the table before rising to his feet and saying, "Mom, Dad, enjoy the meal. I'm done eating." After that, he strode out of the dining room.

The sight of Huxley's expression made Liam roll his eyes at his wife. "Just shut up and eat, okay? Why do you insist on saying nonsense in front of our son? Don't you know the true reason why Huck is home for lunch today? I can't believe you kept fanning the flames in front of him! Are you trying to give him a heart attack?"

Mrs. Crawford just pouted and replied, "I was just speaking the truth, wasn't I? It's true that your father is biased."
