Chapter 78

Ashton’s POV

*Your wolf must be doing overtime!” Hunt laughs and shakes his head in amusement, as we both drive back to our home from the train station.

Cover and Ly His comment was referring to Rose, who I had agreed to ride back with Sawyer and war supplies that we had taken down South with us for the battle.

“I know, it’s wild how unsettled I feel. I don’t want her out of my fucking sight knowing that she’s pregnant now – but she’s with Sawyer, literally in the car behind us!” I laugh and shake my head at my ridiculous feelings as I check my mirror and see them following us up the road.

It was a new anxiety that had began to fester, knowing that my mate was now carrying probably the most precious thing to us both – our child.

Thankfully, the tests all cleared and the baby is surprisingly healthy. The nurse suspects that we are around six or seven weeks along so it’s still in early stages yet… but wolfs are known to fully grow in a matter of four to six months… so time was ticking!

They think that due to how much of my blood we had transferred over to Rose, we had managed to heal any damage before things got too late.

“What’s up with you and Lydia anyhow?” I throw my suspicion back at Hunt, who sort of shrugs and tries to act cool on the matter.

“I asked her if she wanted to be my mate a couple of days ago.” He states casually, as my brows shoot up in surprise.

That was quite a big move for him to make, especially for someone who had doubted my own decision to mate with Rose in the early days before getting to know her better.

Hunt of all people knew how serious it was to ask someone to be a mate when they weren’t actually destined to you, which only shows me just how much he actually likes the girl.

“Right, so what did she say?!” I push, driving through our familiar town with our home not being far now as many of our pack members notice the vehicles and smile at us on passing.

I just hope Rose has coped fine with all of the travel today… but I think it will be worth it in the end being back where she belongs in the safety and comfort of my own place…

The doctors had set up a room for us arriving, with a king bed that I could sleep beside her in along with the appropriate equipment to keep her health up. There was no way I would be able to not sleep beside her for much longer, not after losing her for so long.

“Said to me she would think it over and we haven’t really discussed it since then.” Hunt rubs a hand on the back of his neck, expressing unsettled he felt about it all,

“What’s her doubts?” I question, driving up to the gates and waiting for my security to open them for me.

“Obviously I’m not her true mate and she’s not mine… I think she might be worried that if my real mate turns up one day, that I’ll just ditch her.” Hunt explains which I thought would be the case.

The girl is within her rights to fear that happening, I think anybody naturally would. Rose and I’s situation was different with neither of our mate situations working out as planned giving us the freedom to pick a new match with no strings attached.

“Nah but with the whole mating bond you’ll probably feel stronger for Lydia than you will for your real mate if they ever do turn up. I think at this age too it’s common for males and females to mate with who they want your mate is probably out there somewhere with a full blown family by now Hunt that’s what happens! You’ve waited long enough and if you like Lydia, go for it!” 1 share my support, knowing that things worked out well for myself

The gates flash green, pulling apart to let us in, as I drive up the hill and roll around to the front of the house – leaving space for Sawyer to park up

behind me.

“I’ll speak to her about it again tonight, maybe I can try sway her some more now that she’s had time to think about it.” Hunt sighs, evidently nervous about rejection as I study him.

“No doubt the girls have probably discussed it too, and I reckon that Rose has probably encouraged her to go for it if I know her well enough! Hopefully when you talk to her again, she’s up for the challenge.” I state my belief, as he offers me a tight smile.

Before the conversation can go on, Sawyer slaps his hands on Hunts side window and pulls a face causing for him to flinch in his seat as I laugh not kudly at the traction.

Chapter 20

*That fucking ass! He was put on this earth to test me every god damn day!” Hunt fumes, as Sawyer doubles over from outside of the car – having successfully scared Hunt.

I find their encounters amusing, knowing that Sawyer only worked to annoy him knowing that he would so easily bite the bait!

I see Lydia helping Rose out of the car behind us, as I curse under my breath and unbuckle my seatbelt to go get her myself.

I open and slam the car door, jogging towards them as Rose lands on the stones with one foot–hobbling on to Lydia for balance.

You could have fell Rose! Why didn’t you wait on me getting out of the car?!” I scold, moving to scoop her up in to my arms as she groans slightly from the instant movement.

“You were taking forever!” Rose giggles, as I can’t help but smile slightly at the sound – having missed hearing her laugh after everything that’s happened.

Speaking of everything that’s happened, Jacob was still very much high up on my list of problems to deal with… but first, I need to get Rose inside and settled.

“What do you want to do? The doctor wants to look at you and then you could maybe sit out back? It’s a nice day. Oliver wants to come over and so does Ruth but it’s your call it you’re ready to see them that is.” I explain, carrying her up the steps and inside the home that I had missed sharing with

her

Her eyes look around in wonder, seeming content to be back in her safe space before she nestles her head in to the crook of my neck.

“Yeah that all sounds fine.” She comments, as I nod and move around on the first floor to the assigned room that had been turned in to a private doctor’s suite.

I figured sleeping on the first floor would make things easier for her with her current injuries….

“Alpha! How’s things? Let’s take a look at this special lady then shall we? Bring her in and lay her down please.” Doctor Carter steps out from the room. and catches a glimpse of us approaching, dressed in his black scrubs.

“Rose, this is Doctor

is Doctor Carter–the best that there is. I wouldn’t want anybody else giving me medical treatment.” I introduce, as Rose smiles at him.

I do just as instructed, stepping in to the large room to lay her down – seeing a number of different machines, trays and equipment already set up.

“What’s bothering you most Rose and we can start with that? The leg or is it the worry about the baby? I know the last pack gave the all clear but I like to double check things for myself” Doctor Carter asks gently, as Rose glances to me and I nod for her to answer truthfully.

“Uh… the baby is more important, but my leg really does hurt… I want to be able to move around on my own.” Rose admits, chewing her lip as i frown at the action but she doesn’t notice.

That damn lip of hers… there’s only one time she should be chewing it like that… and it’s in bed with me!

I ignore it, pushing back my jealous wolf thoughts as Doctor Carter nods along with what she tells him.

He was a gentle male and a great Doctor, and I knew that he would band well with Rose so that hopefully she trusts him fully moving forward.

“Ok so I think it will take a little longer to heal since the report shows that they actually stitched the leg up with the bullet still inside before going back in again to remove it, is that right?” The Doctor squints in horror reading the letter as those looks down and nods- fiddling with her fingers at the

memory.

Bastards.

“Ok, not to worry! I can secure it enough in the meantime to possibly have you walking around in a sturdy y moon boot? It might get a little sore if you ati on it for too long but it will help you to get around the house at least, how does that sound?” He suggests, scribbling down notes as Rose smiles

“Sure!” She agrees, as he nods and whistles for a nurse to come in.

“I need a moon boot and therapy materials.” He instructs the young girl as she nods and moves to collect what is needed.

“As for the baby, 11

I the checks and then I’ll get you on some supplements to ensure a healthy growth.” He explains, as I suddenly feel relieved

being back in my home land with familiar faces around me.

But one thought continued to nag on my mind, refraining me from feeling fully settled here, and that was Jacob

He had to be dealt with for his betrayal, before I can fully move on….
