Search for the Sunlight

Chapter 53

Like the unwinding mechanism in an old grandfather clock, the cabbala ground to a halt. In the silence that followed, Smelly Brian poked his head out from beneath the table.

His greasy fur was standing on end like a porcupine. His feline intuition had alerted him to the forthcoming danger.

Concerned for his own safety, he scurried across the room and shut himself in the broomstick cupboard.

Endor opened her blood shot eyes. Her face was expressionless and her line of vision was fixed firmly ahead. Oblivious to her surroundings, she walked, like a Zombie, towards the wok and stopped. For a few tense moments she stood perfectly still, then, with a blood curdling scream that rattled the windows, she thrust her right hand into the boiling mixture. Her ugly face twisted and distorted, as the searing pain ripped through her body.

Following Basil’s instructions to the letter, Sherlock and the brothers remained focused and stared directly into Endor’s demented eyes. Unable to endure the agony any longer, she withdrew her blistering hand from the scalding potion and with her arm outstretched, she pointed her swollen luminescent fingers towards The Treewoods.

Like a bolt of lightening, the magic shot forth from her fingertips. With a sharp Crack, the force of which caused Basil’s head to recoil, it struck the highly polished lenses of his glasses and bounced off in the opposite direction. Nanoseconds later, it struck Sherlock’s glasses and like a ricocheting bullet, shot off back towards the witches. Totally unprepared for such an event, the sorceresses were too slow to avoid the returning spell and with an almighty flash, followed by a strong smell of burning flesh, the bolt struck them both with alarming force.

Through the resulting smoke and fire, the Treewoods stared in horror at the terrified faces of the evil pair, their last desperate moment captured, as if on film, except in this disturbing instance, they were both helplessly entombed inside the solid blocks of glass that were intended for the Treewoods. Victims of their own evil spell, there they would remain until the end of days.
