Chapter 38
Aiden’s POV
I was holding a dream. I read about her, dreamt about her, studied journals, and prayed but nothing changed until she showed up in my life. Now, I held this delicate body in my arms. I could place my lips on her. I could smell her addictive scent and I didn’t know how I had survived to this day without her. Without knowing her. Without hearing her voice or seeing her eyes look upon me. How did I breathe without knowing that she made life worth it? Worth the unknowns, the pain, the fear. She was worth surviving for.
As we both awoke, I began to sense her wolf almost immediately. This was so new to me. It wasn’t like my parents or my pack. She’s so different. Her wolf was a part of me. I felt connected to her in such a desperate way. The human part of me could rationalize the wolf connection. I had always been told that as wolves, our natural instincts took over, we felt things, knew things about our mate almost like we were one wolf. She had only changed once, and I had only sensed her wolf for less than a day really. My human side almost felt shy and cautious but the wolf in me knew her wolf. As though they knew each other in a prior life. If felt like they were only now reconnected and wanted more than anything to be together again.
It was the most surreal feeling I had ever known. It was also the most exciting and the deepest feeling I had ever experienced in my life. I had no idea it could feel this consuming. Now, I totally understand why my wolf sensed her so early. They were already connected but separated by our human forms. He had been waiting for her for a lifetime. That was why he was so crazed. He would do anything to get to her again. Do anything to protect her. Why he would die for her. I finally understood. He was my soul…and we were waiting for her.
So, that was my reality. Hers was so much more complicated and confusing. How could it not be? She was catapulted into this strange world, my world. The one I had always known and she’s only just realizing that it existed. I couldn’t imagine her fear and confusion. I’ll do everything to make it better for her.
I could feel that she was comfortable with me. Just not this world. So, I would help with the transition from her world to mine. I wouldn’t waste another second.
As I laid there, intoxicated by her scent, her touch, the hormones that seemed to float in the air and into my lungs, I felt her wolf become excited, and as we talked, Jess finally let herself connect to her wolf. Now her wolf was begging to get out.
***
Jess had never been on this side of the house. The suites on this end had been designed for us, the alpha’s children, for when we found our mates. These weren’t the simple apartment-style rooms like I had before. These were immaculate suites with everything a couple would need. We could be our own family here. This was designed by my mom, years ago, when renovations were going on. Maybe she thought if she did it, it would happen sooner for us. If she gave us a place that was ours, fate would allow it to finally happen.
Sadly these suites had been vacant for a long time. Someone had to have had the forethought to clean it before we arrived. Did mom know I would want to bring her here instead of either of our old rooms? That I wouldn’t waste a second to feel the connection that this new living space meant. No one had lived in it before. It was new…for us. For our new life. For my mate.
I tried to keep her calm as I led her down the hallway. When we reached the end of the hall, everything felt different for me. I felt oddly stronger than usual. I felt invincible. As I held her hand, I knew that she brought out a new confidence in me…greater than I thought possible. It wasn’t only because I can now breathe fire from my mouth.
Did she wake up to see that? I had so much to tell her.
My excitement continued to grow. How? Wouldn’t it eventually peak? Isn’t there a cap to feeling this way. Does joy have a limit?
Not with her.
I knew that now.
I had my mate, my lover, a best friend all rolled up into one. I wanted to share my dreams with her now. The dreams I buried under the journals because it was too irresponsible and foolish to allow those wishes. She fulfilled every single one of them…instantly.
Now, we got to experience something else together. My wolf would reunite with hers. They would run together at dizzying speeds and perhaps stop at the river and howl with appreciation to the fates that reunited us.
There was a lifetime to finally look forward to.
I opened the door and held it for her. I was glad that I wouldn’t be helping to later replace it. I almost laughed out loud at the thought. Though her running through it unscathed might have been bad ass to watch.
I saw the confusion in her eyes as she stepped out into the morning sun.
“It’s okay now. Just let go. Watch,” I said as I transitioned into my wolf directly in front of her.
Her eyes transfixed onto mine and she began to change. It was slow at first until my wolf gave an excited howl and she was transformed almost instantly. She stood in front of me, and we didn’t move. She walked around me fully, never looking away. Just as I thought she’d circle me again, she walked up to me and nestled her head against mine and I heard her voice, “Catch me.”
Her beautiful wolf was gone.
I swear if I had blinked, I would’ve had no idea which direction she went. From sight that is. I would have known from her scent in a second.
I began running after her, but I realized I couldn’t catch her, not even close.
“You have to slow down. It’s not safe. Wait for me.”
“God this is amazing. I feel like I’m flying.”
“Well, apparently you are. You are getting further from me.”
Silence filled our link, but I heard other links as our patrolling detail chattered about never seeing a wolf run with that kind of speed before.
“Jess, let me catch up.”
I heard her giggle, “Okay Chief.”
Suddenly her scent became more intoxicating. I ran around a corner and there she was. The adrenaline that we were both exuding was making me crazed, but I had to remind myself that this was about her. She was looking back at me, and she slowed to allow me to reach her.
“Don’t go taking it easy on me. I don’t have to go slow. I can handle that speed easily.”
“Slow?” I said as I felt my one eyebrow raise. Her elegant wolf was turned looking at me as I reached her side. “This is running. This is not slow.”
“Huh.” She laughed in a way that I could tell she was feeling pretty good about herself.
“What?”
“No, what I was doing was running. This is jogging.”
“Jogging?” I huffed.
“Yes, why?” she asked, confused.
“I was running as fast as I could to catch you,” I said, astonished.
“You’re joking, right?” she asked.
“Not in the least,” I confessed as her eyes grew wider.
The detail began to speak to her instead of just one another. They praised her. I could feel her pride and confidence grow even further. But there was more. She felt a comradery with them. She was enjoying herself. She liked the pack being with us on the run. She was comfortable with them. It took her wolf knowing her connection to mine, and Jess letting herself connect to her wolf to finally realize that she belonged with us.
And I was loving every second of it.
I had to remind her often to match my speed until she began to slow down. She stopped in the middle of the forest, still within our pack’s compound and she began to look around.
She looked up towards the top of the pines. Her eyes scanned the forest floor, dissecting movements. Her ears were moving towards sounds that I hardly noticed anymore. Traffic from a road, miles away, caught her attention and I had to tell her it wasn’t remotely close to us. It was deceiving. To her, it seemed just a few yards away.
There was only one way to understand your senses…experience.
The detail stayed very still as she listened and learned. I was relishing in her discoveries.
I wouldn’t love this more if I were the one who had these experiences. I loved it more watching it through her eyes. She was extraordinary.
I still couldn’t shake the fact that I’d never seen a wolf as fast as her before. Then I wondered. Was that her gift? I quickly found that I could breathe fire. Maybe this was hers. The fastest wolf on the planet. I surely haven’t ever heard anyone ever mention a wolf this fast before.
My chest was surging with pride.
“I’m going to have to race you back to our room if you keep looking at me that way. You’re really tearing me up over here,” she linked to only me.
“Leave!!” I screamed at the detail.
I had no control. If I could’ve waited, I would have. I had to have her.
I changed into human form and the detail quickly turned and vanished into the woods, toward the house.
She watched as they ran out of sight. Her ears were turned their direction, listening. The second she was sure we were alone she turned…with total control this time.
Dear God, there stood my mate, naked and intoxicating. Her hair draped down her chest. Strands of her hair touched her breasts, and I ran to her.
She met me in the middle as I reached up to cup her face and taste her mouth again. Her hunger was my equal as her arms went under my arms and over the top of my shoulders as she clung to me. I picked her up and her legs wrapped around my waist.
I slowly lowered us to the ground, and I entered her almost the second her back was on the ground. She screamed the most delicious scream as her eyes studied my face. Her eyes spoke to me in ways that her mouth, or our link, ever could. It was the deepest language I’ve ever understood. I saw something change, like a flicker and she flipped me over, now straddling on top of me.
She smiled as she began to grind up and down on me. I sat up and began pulling her shoulders, pulling her into me.
Her head nestled into my chest as I heard her whimpers grow. I didn’t know how long I could keep going without filling her up with my release.
Her warmth sheathed me in pure wet pleasure. Every inch of movement was better than the last. Up and down. Over and over she rode me as her breaths matched her pace. My mind began to hum with ecstasy.
I was shaking all over, trying to last until she was sated, when I saw a shocked look on her face. I held onto her back and watched her. She pounded harder and I drove up into her as trembling took over every inch of her. She collapsed onto me as the climax peaked and she buried her mouth into my neck and bit me.
I gritted my teeth and moaned from the most intimate feeling I’d ever known. To fill her while her teeth were in my neck was a connection that I didn’t know I needed. How did she keep doing this to me?
“Jess,” I moaned into her hair.
I exploded deep inside of her as her scream was muffled by my chest.
