Chapter 14
Bailey’s POV
She’s been here several days too many and I’m losing my patience with her. I nearly cried myself to sleep the first night. I went looking for Aiden only to find him and his brother lying asleep on the floor outside of the infirmary.
Over a girl. A human girl.
Everyone heard the rumors. So many links around the compound were telling how aggressive Aiden and Josh were at one another when she was found hurt in the woods. And now, just days later, both seemed to be released by this magic she was using on them. Aiden has become aloof. He’s ignoring everyone. Just when I thought I was becoming something special to him, this girl shows up and he’s more distant than ever.
Why are they letting her stay?
She could be worse than a human. I was told that our Luna snuck in behind the partitions and tried to read her mind, but she couldn’t get through. Why is no one seeing this for what it is?
A trap.
What else could it be if our Alpha and Luna can’t get through to her?
She must be working with someone. She’s not smart enough to plan something of this magnitude all by herself. So who is she working with? The scourges? A witch?
And what in the hell is her plan? Was she sent here to kill Sophie? To get to the Alpha sons. That seems more logical as she has them both acting like puppies instead of future alphas. I can hardly stand it anymore. The way Aiden looks lost around her. Josh is almost as bad. It must be his age that prevents him from running to her every crisis the way Aiden seems to. Definitely Josh’s maturity. That’s the only thing that makes sense. He’s just handling the pressure of all of this better. I mean, neither could possibly feel anything real for her.
I am going to find out one way or the other. The Alpha and Luna might not be able to break through...but a little woman-to-woman might do the trick. I have nothing to lose anyway. If I lose Aiden, everything I’ve worked for is over. I may not be his destined mate, but I’ve always known I wanted to be the mate of an Alpha. There weren’t any female nobles around to compete with. There hasn’t been a single word of one, aside from Sophie, since I was a baby. It’s never been that farfetched for me to believe this could be my future. I’m not harming anyone by wanting what I want. I’ve been his friend for so many years. We’ve grown up in this compound together and we’ve shared a lifetime of memories already.
I will not let this foreigner come in here and destroy my chances.
I just need a plan. So, how do I make her reveal her intentions? Her plan?
That’s all I can think about.
I’m getting sick of this. I mean physically sick. I opened my eyes and realized that she was the first thought I had. So, this morning, I have a renewed passion. I will watch her every move. I’ll follow her and have others keep a watch on her if I can’t be around. I’ll immediately tell Aiden once I see something suspicious and he’ll drop this ridiculous behavior once his wolf gets angry enough. His wolf will sense something’s wrong first and help him get over this manipulation. I will do whatever I have to do to make sure she doesn’t get close to Aiden. Even if I have to drive her away. What does it matter? She doesn’t belong here anyway. I’ll only be doing everyone a favor. I could be saving the pack from the war. What if the scourges used humans like her to get into a compound to attack?

After I ate breakfast, I went looking for her. It wasn’t that difficult really. I could hear most chatter unless I tuned it out, so I knew where she was. She had been going to the firm. “Trying to build up her strength,” she told someone.
“Yeah. I bet so.”
The first day she came out here, I watched her sloppily spin the rod around like she was a windmill. No direction. No intentions. She watched the other females a little too intently for a while and when I spied on her a little later, she copied their technique until she nearly had it perfected. That annoyed the shit out of me, so I went out to practice alongside her. I planned on starting a conversation but as I demonstrated some complex moves, something I thought she might ask about, she looked at me oddly and put her stick away and left.
If I didn’t know better, I would say she’s avoiding me. Probably because I’m the only one suspicious of her.
Today, it looks like someone loaned her their google nest because she had it playing softly as she stretched. She was alone and her warm-up looked like she was dancing.
Who does she think she is? This bitch is trying to seduce the males with her spectacle. God, I hope they can see through her. She’s not this innocent girl, trying to learn the ropes around here. She’s learning about us for sure. She’s watching how we train for heaven’s sake. She can learn our strengths and weaknesses. She’s growing more confident, I can tell.
God this is killing me. I just need her to slip up before I lose my mind.
I was growing more and more annoyed by the second just standing here. Screw it, I’ve got to do something. I wasn’t sure what…but something.
I began to walk towards her when a movement caught my attention. From the corner of the house, Aiden stepped out and began walking towards her.
I wasn’t going to just watch and be quiet this time. I began to call his name, over and over, but he cleared the gardens at an unbelievable speed. His last few steps somehow looked blurry. He looked angry so. Maybe he was finally seeing what I was seeing.
I watched from my hiding place.
