Salute To The General

Chapter 3153

Everyone present could tell that Wolfric was making things difficult for Nathan.

Unbeknownst to everyone, however, everything was actually going according to Nathan's plan.

In an instant, the crowd could not help but admire Nathan.

With all the havoc caused by the werewolves and vampires and the fact that there has been an outbreak of blood virus, Adrune has suffered significant losses. Through the method of coercion, Wolfric successfully became the commander-in-chief. However, after snagging that title, all he thinks about is picking fights with other humans, finding ways to suppress Eurasia, and dealing with Nathan. On the contrary, Nathan is nothing like him. Although the dark clan has been on a rampage, they haven't really reached Aploth yet. Despite that, Nathan has stepped forward to provide any help he can without hesitation. Apart from that, he humbly ceded the seat of the commander-in-chief to Wolfric for the sake of the overall situation. Even now, when Wolfric is trying to oppress him, he still takes on the difficult task of slaying the Alpha Wolf without thinking about the risks he will have to face.

A lot of people started to look at Wolfric in a different light.

Meanwhile, Eugene IV, who was watching from the sidelines, was well aware that even though Wolfric had become the commander-in-chief, the man had already lost the favor of the people around him.

On the other hand, Nathan had earned the people's respect.

If Nathan really succeeds in killing the Alpha Wolf and returns triumphantly, the War Gods of a hundred nations will surely honor him as king, and Nathan shall become the true commander-in-chief. But the question is, can he actually slay the Alpha Wolf? I reckon Wolfric is betting that he can't.

Being a decisive man, Nathan was prepared to leave to make the necessary preparations after taking over the mission.

Yet, before he could, Hepburn stopped him. "Please hold on a moment, Mr. Cross."

Nathan and his subordinates halted in their tracks.

He then turned around to look at Hepburn before asking dubiously, "Is there anything else, Ms. Hepburn?"

The crowd, too, was looking at Hepburn with confused expressions.

Hepburn's face flushed slightly, but she pressed on, saying, "Mr. Cross, the task of slaying the Alpha Wolf will be an arduous one. Although I can't do much to help, I'm willing to lead a team of people to go with you." Nathan was just about to decline her help when Wolfric's ally, Eiken, stood up to protest.

He yelled, "Holy Maiden, have you forgotten the commander-in-chief's words? Nathan can only bring his own people along for the mission. No other countries can lend their assistance."

In response, Hepburn said cooly,

"Well, for starters, the Curia is a church organization, not a country Secondly the most important thing at present is to solve the werewolf problem, or do you think it's more

important for us to fight among

ourselves?"

Eiken's face instantly flushed with embarrassment at that. He countered, "Please watch your words, Ms. Hepburn. When have I ever said that it's more important for us to fight among ourselves?" Hepburn scoffed. "I'm sure we all know who here really wants to eradicate the dark clan and preserve the peace of mankind and who's the one that's trying to sow discord."

Infuriated, Eiken spluttered, "Y-You!"

Just then, Eugene IV piped up cooly,

"All right, that's enough. It doesn't

really matter if the Holy Maiden wants to bring a team to

accompany Nathan to fight the werewolves. We'll just see them as witnesses of the war."

Hearing that, Eiken and the rest turned to look at Wolfric to see what his thoughts were.

Wolfric shifted his gaze to Nathan and said with a faint smile, "Heh, it seems that Mr. Cross is quite the charming man to be able to get the Holy Maiden to lend her assistance. In any case, I'm fine with the Holy Maiden going with you. Just like what Pope Eugene has said, the Holy Maiden shall serve as a witness of the war. This way, if you die in battle, there'll be someone left to report to me about your untimely demise."

Nathan replied calmly, "I do hope that you'll still be able to smile so broadly when I return."

With that, he turned on his heel and left the scene with Colin, Sevan, and the others.

Seeing this, Hepburn hurriedly followed along.

Soon, only the crowd was left exchanging glances with each other.

Later that afternoon, Nathan led his elite team and set off for Gishwick, the area that had been taken over by the werewolves.

Tagging along with him was Hepburn and two War Gods of the Light-Daveth and Betty, as well as thirty bishops and three hundred Holy Knights.
