Chapter Chapter Twenty Three: Another Chance
Amelia's words hung heavy in the air as she made her fateful decision. She could see the fear and realization dawning in Jace's eyes as he connected the dots, piecing together the cryptic riddle that Lyria had shared with her. It was a riddle that seemed to foretell not only his father's death but also Amelia's, and the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on him.
A sense of dread washed over Jace, and he couldn't bear the thought of losing Amelia. The prophecy had spoken of their love, their intertwined destinies, and the role they were meant to play together. He couldn't accept that her life might be sacrificed in this desperate attempt to save his father.
His voice trembled as he reached out to her, his hands gently cupping her face, their eyes locked in a poignant moment. "Amelia," he implored, his voice filled with anguish, "I love you more than anything. I can't bear the idea of losing you. What if it doesn't work, and you..." He couldn't bring himself to say the words that haunted his darkest fears.
Amelia's heart ached at the depth of Jace's emotions. She knew the immense risks involved in her plan, but her sense of duty and love for Jace drove her forward. She placed her hand over his, their fingers intertwined in a silent pledge of love and determination.
"I love you too, Jace," she whispered, her voice unwavering, her eyes filled with unspoken promises. "But I have to do what's right. I can't let your father's sacrifice be in vain."
With a heavy heart, Amelia turned her attention to John's lifeless form. Her powers surged within her, an intense light beginning to radiate from her as she embarked on this perilous journey. Jace could only watch in helpless despair as the brilliant, blinding energy enveloped her, channeled into John's wounds.
But as he called out her name, desperate to stop her, it was too late. The surge of power left Amelia unconscious, collapsing beside John's body. The battlefield fell silent, as if holding its breath, waiting for the outcome of this selfless act that could alter the course of destiny itself
In that moment, as darkness embraced her, Amelia felt herself transported to another realm. She was greeted by the familiar faces of her parents, Katherine and Samuel, who had been taken from her so tragically.
"Why am I here?" Amelia asked, her voice filled with both longing and confusion.
Her mother, Katherine , smiled warmly at her. "You're here, sweetheart, because you've crossed the boundary between life and death," she explained gently.
Amelia's confusion deepened. "But I want to be with you," she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Her father Samuel stepped forward, his eyes filled with pride. "You've done enough, Amelia. You've fulfilled your destiny, and your actions have brought hope and change to our world."
Amelia couldn't help but think of all the pain and loss she had endured. "But what about the pain I've suffered?"
Katherine's smile was tender. "Your pain is over now, my dear. You've been a beacon of hope and strength to our kind, and it's time for you to live for yourself."
Amelia's emotions swirled like a storm within her. She turned to her aunt, Eliza, who had emerged from the shadows to join them. "Aunt Eliza, is this true? Have I really completed my destiny?"
Eliza nodded, her expression softening. "You've surpassed our hopes, Amelia. You've not only preserved our legacy but breathed new life into it. You're a symbol of resilience and hope for the future."
Amelia's heart swelled with a mix of emotions. She was torn between the desire to be reunited with her parents and the newfound purpose that had carried her through the darkest of times.
As her parents and aunt began to fade from view, Katherine spoke her final words to her daughter. "Live, Amelia, and cherish every moment. We'll be waiting for you when your time comes, but until then, embrace the life you've fought so hard for.
You've fulfilled your destiny, but there's more to come. Remember the riddle that Lyria shared with Jace—the future remains within your grasp."
Amelia looked puzzled. "But what about John?" she asked, her concern for her friend still strong.
Her Father chuckled, his eyes twinkling with humor. "John is alive. You did sacrifice a life to save yours, but it was meant to happen. It's all part of the prophecy."
Amelia felt a profound sense of relief wash over her. She didn't want her actions to have been in vain, and the knowledge that John was alive brought her immense comfort.
Before she could say anything else, her mother's voice filled with warmth and love. "Goodbye, sweetheart. I don't want to see you here if you're not at least 100 years old. Go have fun and live for yourself; your pain is over."
With those words, Amelia gasped, taking a breath as she was pulled back into the realm of the living. Jace was there, his arms wrapping around her in a tight embrace. He kissed her passionately, and Amelia responded with equal fervor, grateful for the second chance they had been given.
As they pulled away from their kiss, Amelia's gaze shifted to John, who was very much alive and well. She ran to him, throwing her arms around him in a joyous hug. John laughed, twirling her around in a circle.
"John!" Amelia exclaimed, laughing as he spun her around. It was a moment of pure happiness and relief.
