Chapter 239 Unbelievable
"We'll talk about Irene later. We have to deal with Lily's problem right now. You've come at the right time. When Lily wakes up, you should try to talk to her. She's too emotionally unstable right now," Marie said. "I know, I came here with the thought of persuading her," Deborah nodded. Lily's temper was generally pretty bad, and she was the only one who could persuade her. Deborah reached out and touched Lily's face, which was pale due to major blood loss, "How long has she been asleep? Nothing bad will happen right?"
"Nothing bad will happen. Lily woke up in the morning. Her emotions were all over the place, that I had no choice but to ask someone to give her a sedative. She will wake up soon," Marie explained. Deborah was relieved upon hearing that, but she soon remembered Lily's children. Although Simon had said that Lily's children were healthy, Deborah was still worried, "Marie, where are Lily's children? Is there any problem with them?"
"The children are fine," Marie answered. "But..." How should she tell Deborah about them being green-eyed? She couldn't understand why the children were foreign no matter how much she thought about it. Was it a genetic mutation? However, would the children's eyes turn that green just because of some genetic mutation?
"But what?" Deborah's heart sank when she saw Marie's unnatural expression, "Could it be that there's something wrong with the children?"
Marie sighed, she had no choice but to tell the truth, "I don't know what happened, but Lily gave birth to foreign children."
Deborah did not think that her definition of green-eyed meant that the children would be extremely foreign. It was the same as what Simon had said in the morning, so she also thought that children only had a slightly mix-blood-like and did not care much about it, "So what if they're a little strange, there's nothing wrong with that right? Since Lily is asleep, let's have a look at the children together!"
Marie looked at Deborah with complicated eyes and took the lead to leave the ward. They then came to the door of the nursery room, when the nurse saw Marie, she took the initiative to greet Marie. Marie pointed at Deborah and said, "I'm here to let her have a look at the children."
The nurse glanced at Deborah and opened the door. Marie and Deborah entered the baby room. Deborah could see two foreign babies the moment she entered the room, but she did not expect that they were Lily's children. When she saw Marie stopping in front of the two children, she was very puzzled until Marie spoke, "These two are Lily's children."
"What did you say?" Deborah was stunned. Lily gave birth to two foreign babies? How was that possible? She looked away from the two children and looked at Marie, "Could this be a mistake?"
"No, I was at the door of the operating room at that time. These two children were carried out of the operating room by the nurses," Marie answered.
"How could the children be foreigner? How is it possible?" Deborah raised her voice. Some of the babies were frightened by her voice and burst into tears and the nurse came in quickly.
The news of Lily giving birth to foreign children had already spread throughout the hospital. In addition, from the newspaper articles that had been written about Lily, everyone believed that Lily had had another affair with another man, but she still had hoped to frame Edric to get some money from him.
Seeing how worked up Deborah was, the nurse looked at her with disdain in her eyes. So that was the mother of the woman who had had an affair with a foreigner.
How ridiculous! How could she not know her own daughter's personality? Moreover, she still dared to make a commotion in the hospital. If it was someone else, she would have told her to shut up. However, for Marie's sake, the nurse said gently, "Dr. Walker, she can't make a commotion here. You'd better take her out of here."
Marie pulled Deborah out of the nursery. Deborah's face was full of anger and disbelief. She glared at Marie and questioned fiercely, "What the hell is going on? Wasn't Lily pregnant with Edric's child? How did she give birth to foreign children?"
How could Marie explain to her clearly? She tried to calm her down, "Calm down and lower your voice. This is a hospital, and you shouldn't make a fuss here."
Deborah also realized that her reaction was drawing too much attention, hence she lowered her voice and said, "How can I calm down? You were in charge of this matter. How did it turn out like this?" Marie was the one who had been in charge of Lily's pregnancy, so how could she not know about it?
"Let's talk about it in Lily's ward," Marie dragged Deborah away. A few passersby whispered to each other, "I heard that there are two foreign children in the nursery room. Let's go and have a look." "Shame on her. Lily is such a shameless woman. She messed with another man and gave birth to the man's child, but she still wanted to frame Edric. Fortunately, she made love with a foreign man, otherwise, her scheme would've definitely succeeded."
"There's no way she would've succeeded in the first place! Edric isn't a fool. He probably broke up with her knowing that she's a wh*re. In this case, he'll definitely be willing to do a paternity test. Even if she didn't get together with a foreign man, Lily still wouldn't have succeeded!"
Deborah's eyes were burning with rage when she heard their discussion. What right did those people have to tarnish her daughter's reputation? She wanted to fight them, but Marie stopped her, "What are you doing? Do you want to make a big deal out of this? Don't forget your current identity!"
After hearing Marie's words, Deborah stopped walking. She was now just a nobody. How could a nobody fight passersby? All she could do was glare at the passersby and head back with Marie back to Lily's ward.
"What the hell is going on?" Deborah demanded right after the ward's door was closed.
"I don't know, either," Marie admitted.
"You don't know? How could you not know? You were the one who had stored Edric's sperm, and you were the one who had been in charge of the artificial insemination, so how can you not know anything?" "Yes, I had kept the sperm that Margaret gave me in the past, but I didn't expect the matter to turn out like this either. Could it be that the person who stored the sperm took the wrong one?" Marie speculated. "Took the wrong one?" Deborah was stunned. That was the only explanation at present, but what could she do? It was a little too late to blame the problem on the sperm as they had a bigger issue right then. Two lives had been born because of the error made, and that was what they need to deal with now. Moreover, her daughter's uterus had been removed for good. "What should I do now?" Deborah stammered. How would Marie know what to do? She just kept silent. At that moment, Lily woke up. She cried when she saw her mother, "Mom, someone must have replaced my children with theirs. Mom, please help me get my children back."
"Lily, calm down. You've just finished giving birth to two babies and your body still hasn't recovered. You need to prioritize on recovering first," Deborah held Lily and comforted her. It was then that Lily finally stopped crying.
Deborah inquired about the details of the incident when Lily fell down. Lily told the story as it was to Deborah, and she even told Deborah her plans about aggravating Irene. Deborah listened to her explanation silently. After a while, she asked, "Could the children's issue be Edric's doing?"
"What does Edric have anything to do with this?" Marie asked.
"Could it be that Edric had found two foreign children and swapped them with Lily's children? I had a feeling that the reporters came at a strange timing. Why would they show up in the hospital? Lily is neither a star nor a celebrity. She can't possibly attract so many reporters just because she's giving birth, right?" Deborah said.
Hearing what she said, Lily shouted immediately, "Mom, he must've bribed the doctors to swap my children. It has to be that!"
"Right now, we have to find where your biological children are. We can't let Edric get away with this so easily," Deborah said. She too believed that the children had been replaced.
Marie thought about it. The doctor
who had been in charge of Lily's delivery was personally assigned by her. In addition, she had been monitoring the procedure the whole time. Therefore, the possibility of the children being swapped was very low Marie said, "We had better give the children a paternity test to confirm things. If the children really aren't Lily's biological children, we can go to Edric then."
Deborah and Lily both agreed to her suggestion. They both passed the matter of the paternity test to Marie. Deborah could not stay in the ward for too long, so she left after comforting Lily for a while.
Deborah hailed a taxi home. On the
way home, the driver turned on the radio. The radio was broadcasting some entertainment news. The male host on the radio was mocking Lily giving birth to two foreign children, "Ah, Mr. Cook has been detained and Miss Cook has given birth to foreign children. An apple really doesn't fall from the tree, eh? Mr. Cook's own crooked behavior caused his daughter to turn out to be as bad. She would often go to the nightclubs and mess with other men, and even came up with such a scheme. Unfortunately, she has failed miserably. She has successfully made a fool out of herself by giving birth to a foreign baby, therefore proving that the child isn't Edric's."
The female DJ said, "Yes, Miss Cook is not only immoral, she is also said to be extremely vicious. She had even planned to use the children to earn some quick cash. She's too simple-minded. I heard that all of Edric's property has already been given to his ex-wife, Irene and the child who she gave birth to, and now he's just managing the company in his ex-wife and child's place. If Lily now finds out that Edric is now merely working for his ex-wife and child, I wonder if she will still choose him."
The host laughed out loud, "Of course she wouldn't! She's not that stupid!"
Deborah became furious after hearing the broadcast. She reached out and turned off the radio. The taxi driver, who had been enjoying the radio, was shocked by her sudden actions, "What are you doing?" "It's too noisy," Deborah said fiercely.
Seeing the fierce look on her face, the driver had no choice but to remain silent.
She wondered if the fact that Edric had passed all his assets to Irene and her child was true. If it was true, wouldn't her and Lily's efforts be all in vain?
Thinking deeper into it, Deborah felt that something was wrong. Edric had so many assets, so how could he give everything to Irene? Edric must have spread the news on purpose to make a joke out of Lily. Thinking about that, Deborah felt infuriated. How could Edric be so ruthless? She would definitely find a way to get revenge!
Deborah returned to Logan's house full of anger. Logan passed her a newspaper when he saw that she was back, "Take a look at this."
Deborah took it and had a look. The newspaper actually had an article about how Lily had messed around with other people, got pregnant, and tried to earn some quick cash using the children. Deborah was s angry that she tore the newspaper apart, "These paparazzi are so hateful!"
"What should we do now?" Logan asked her.
"Let's wait until Lily does the paternity test. If those children aren't Lily's children, we can definitely turn the tables around!" Deborah swore angrily.
Meanwhile, Loraine was still at San Fetillo begging on the streets for a living. She kept on praying that her son, Tommy, would be fine. However, things had gone contrary to her wishes, as something bad had indeed happened to her son.
Loraine suspected that Tommy's death had been caused by Marie, but she had no evidence. Loraine was also a ruthless individual. She swore to seek justice for her son, so she wandered around the hospital in the past few days, hoping to find some evidence.
One night, when Loraine went out to look for food, she got grabbed by someone. The person said, "You b*tch, so this is where you're hiding. No wonder I couldn't find you anywhere!"
The voice sounded incredibly familiar. Loraine was startled as she raised her head and saw Jackson standing in front of her, eyes alight with cruel intent.
