Chapter 222 Self-Inflicted
After Loraine came out from the operating room, Hodge, the driver of the Myers family, came up to see her and said, "Who did you offend? Why have you become like this?" Hodge was very surprised to see her like this.
"I have no idea as well! I got held up by someone and got beaten up. No one came to save me," Loraine felt immense hatred upon explaining herself. The security guards around the villa were usually pretty ruthless people. However, they had not even bothered to show up when she was getting beaten up. If they had shown up, then she would not have been beaten up to this degree.
"How unexpected. How did you even get involved in such incidents?" Hodge sighed. "I've called Mr. Myers about your injury. He affirms that you rest well and that he'll never let off the person who had beaten you up. He has already asked the police to investigate. I believe we will get results soon."
Loraine's heart was filled with hatred. She really wanted to cut that b*stard Jackson to pieces to vent her anger. However, it was not the time for her to get even with Jackson. How could she ever explain the relationship between Jackson and her? If word ever got out, Edric would realize her crimes and make her suffer.
Compared to seeking revenge on Jackson, she was more afraid that Edric would find out about her background. She had to find a way to solve this problem. She would never let Jackson, that b*stard, off. She would let him go free and unfettered for a few days first. When she recovered, she would think of a way to deal with him. She said, "I feel that the man who had hit me could be a lunatic. Otherwise, why would he suddenly apprehend me when I had nothing to do with him?"
"I feel that way too. There's no grudge between you and that stranger. Why would there be a fight then? He must be a mentally ill person," Hodge echoed.
Edric's executive assistant, John Davis, came over as Hodge was talking. Seeing Loraine's reaction, he felt sorry for her. He told her some comforting words to put her in ease, saying that they were investigating the person who had hurt her, and he would be found eventually to be brought to justice.
Upon hearing John's words, Loraine panicked even more. What if they caught Jackson? That way, her background would be completely exposed. By then, Edric would definitely kill her. She told John everything she had told Hodge out of the fear in her heart, including the part where she said the person who had beaten her up had to be a lunatic. John sighed and said, "If he turns out to really be a lunatic, then you will have suffered for nothing. Even Mr. Myers won't be able to help you. Let's see how the investigation goes first."
After saying a few more empty words of comfort, John left the ward. Before he left, he specially instructed the nurse to take good care of her and to not let her eyes be infected and so on.
The nurse affirmed his orders responsibly, "In order to prevent Loraine's eyes from infection, we'll disinfect Loraine eyes from time to time." The nurse also showed John the alcohol and iodine to be used for disinfection and said that she would carry out the disinfection and treatment for Loraine immediately.
John nodded his head and praised the nurse before leaving. John and Hodge then left as well. The two of them had just walked to the side of the lift when they heard Loraine's blood-curdling scream from the ward. Hodge was shocked, "What's going on?"
John smiled slightly, "The nurse is most probably cleaning her wound!"
"Why does she sound like being slaughtered instead?" Hodge shivered, hearing the endless screams in the ward.
John let out a sinister laugh, "How can the wound not hurt if it gets tainted by alcohol and iodine?"
Hodge remembered that he had once had a hand injury and had it disinfected with iodine. At that time, he had accidentally stained the wound with iodine. The pain that he had experienced was now occurring at Loraine's wound on her eye. One could only imagine how painful it was.
He touched his hand in fear and followed closely behind John into the elevator. Even when the door of the elevator closed, he could still hear the blood-curdling screams coming from outside.
John's face was painted with a cold smile. From now on, Loraine would experience pain unbeknownst to her before, over the course of a few days. It was estimated that she would have to wait until her wounds were completely healed before that kind of torture ended. However, compared to the vicious things that the wicked woman had done, that kind of punishment was simply too light.
After Jackson had hurt Loraine, he fled all the way back to the place where Larry lived. Larry had long received the news. Upon seeing how anxious Jackson looked, he asked on purpose, "Jackson, what happened to you?"
"Larry, I've made a mistake!" Jackson told Larry the whole process of him blinding Lorraine, "Larry, I don't want to go to jail anymore. I've just come out from there. It's horrible there. In order to not get you into trouble as well, I have to run away."
Larry stopped him, "Don't panic. Let's look at the news first. If that b*tch has really alerted the police, you won't be able to run too far away. It's better to stay here and see if you can hide until the danger passes."
"I'll drag you into this mess if I do that though," Jackson, who emphasized justice, said.
"Don't worry. You can stay here first. I'll go and see what's going on," Larry comforted him.
Jackson had nowhere to go indeed. The reason why he wanted leave was so that he would not cause any more trouble for Larry. Seeing that Larry viewed their friendship seriously, he was overwhelmed with gratitude. Tears began to fill his eyes as he said, "I will forever remember your kindness. I owe you big time. Anytime you need help, just say the word and I will definitely be there!" Jackson vowed. "Jackson, please don't treat me like an outsider. We are of the same kind. Of course, I'll definitely run into trouble in the future. Just assist me if I need help in the future."
Loraine was in pain in the hospital every day. She could not help but call her son to see her. Tommy left for the hospital. People were gathered in groups of twos or threes and they were gossiping while waiting for the elevator.
"I've heard that a woman has been admitted into the hospital due to losing a great deal of blood from a miscarriage. She seemed to be a prostitute. Judging from her age, she should have undergone the proper procedure in a hospital and not simply take a Plan B pill at home. She almost died from the severe blood loss."
"I've heard about that, too. It wasn't the woman who had taken the pill. I've heard that the woman had fallen in love with a man who was younger than her by a decade and she had gotten pregnant. She wanted to marry that man, but she didn't expect that the man didn't want her back. That man had secretly given the pill to her. The woman didn't know anything about it."
"No way. How can someone be so vicious? What if she died because of it?" The elevator arrived and they entered it, continuing the discussion.
"That man couldn't care less. That woman is so silly though. Even now, she still doesn't know that her miscarriage was caused by him. She still thinks it was because of her health. She's so pitiful." "Such a cruel and inhumane man deserves to be punished by the heavens. He's going to die a tragic death."
"Actually, all of you are wrong. The pill wasn't given by the man, but by another mistress of that man. This other mistress worked as a nanny for another rich man. Someone saw that the mistress had gone to a pharmacy and bought the Plan B pill. She brought it to the hospital and had even ordered the obstetrician to not say a word about it," Another person interrupted the conversation.
"That's too absurd! Are you sure?"
"I heard from the nurse at the hospital. That other mistress is familiar with the other doctors in the hospital. I've also heard that the mistress is so old that she could even be his mother." "This man is really too much!"
Tommy grew really upset upon hearing their comments. How could these people's discussions be similar to what he had experienced?
Could it be that Cecilia's miscarriage had been caused by his mother? Could it be that Marie was that obstetrician they were referring to?
He trembled, and the elevator stopped. He separated from the crowd and walked out. The woman sneered, "You all still sympathize with that wh*re. She deserved what was becoming of her for destroying other people's families."
"Do you know that prostitute?" another person immediately asked.
"Of course! That prostitute is called Cecilia. She works as a pimp in a nightclub. One of my friend's husband would often visit her," the woman was furious.
The elevator door closed, but Tommy had heard every word clearly. His heart sank. He thought back on how his mother had sent several gifts to them a day before Cecilia's miscarriage, and clenched his fists. Sure enough, the matter had already escalated, and only Cecilia and him were still kept in the dark. He strode towards Loraine's ward.
Loraine was lying on the bed, screaming and wailing as a nurse cleaned her wounds. When she saw her son, she looked as if her savior had arrived, "Why are you only here now? It's so painful!" Looking at Loraine's expression, Tommy did not feel the least sorry for her. The discussion in the elevator just now had almost driven him crazy. He growled at her, "Tell me the truth. Were you the one who caused Cecilia's miscarriage?"
"What are you talking about?" Loraine was shocked. How did her son know about that?
"Everything has already been revealed. It was you who had bribed the doctor and told them not to tell the truth. There's no use hiding it anymore. You'd better tell me the truth, or I'll go to the hospital and ask Marie. Then, I'll make a scene about it."
"Are you crazy? You would be willing to do that for that old woman?" Loraine looked at her son anxiously. "Son, if you had liked someone else, I wouldn't have done that. However, you and Cecilia cannot ever work out!"
"I'm going to go insane! Why do I have such a vicious mother like you?!" Tommy roared at Loraine, "At the end of the day, the child was still a life. How could you be so cruel? It wasn't easy for me to meet a woman that I truly liked, but when I finally did, you turned on me. Do you really want me to not have children and discontinue out bloodline?"
"Son, I didn't have a choice. You can't be with Cecilia!" Loraine repeated.
"Why can't I be with her?" Tommy asked.
Loraine did not dare to tell Tommy that Cecilia was his biological aunt, so she lied and said, "Cecilia is a prostitute with a bad reputation and she's old. She's not suitable for you."
"You do not have the right to say whether she is suitable for me or not! I like her and that's all that matters. No one can stop us from being together!"
"Tommy, listen to me. I'm your mother. I won't harm you," Loraine tried to persuade her son. "Look at me now. Can't you make me happy for once since I'm suffering now?"
"You're suffering? Are you suffering like Cecilia? She nearly lost her life because of you!" Tommy roared. "I knew you were vicious. Otherwise, you wouldn't have sent me away back then."
"I had no other way, alright? I was a single mother taking care of you, how could I have survived?" Loraine continued to lie to Tommy about his father passing. She had no way of surviving with the child alone, so she had to give him away.
"There are many widows like you, but unlike you, they don't give their sons away! You didn't raise me, so why do you think you have any rights to stop me now?"
"I'm your biological mother! How dare you hurt me because of another woman? You're really disappointing me!" Loraine said with frustration. How dare he blamed her for Rosa's miscarriage. Although she had given him away at the beginning, had she not tried to make it up to him after they reunited?
"Disappointing you? Have you any idea how devastated I feel? It's said that a even vicious tiger does not eat its cubs. Your heart is more vicious than that of a tiger's. You deserve this. You will be punished by the heavens severely for your cruelty!"
"You!" Loraine almost choked after hearing her son's words. Tommy stomped out of the room angrily. Loraine laid on the bed, panting from anger. Her wound had already hurt so much, but now her heart was in pain as well. What luck did she possess? Why did she have a son like Tommy?
