Chapter 198 Keep It To Yourself
Deborah's ruthlessness made Edric extremely worried for Irene's safety. Since she could be so cruel to his own mother, she would definitely stop at nothing to harm Irene. He had to inform Irene as soon as possible so that she could be more careful.
Edric paid a visit to Irene and told her about Deborah and Logan. Irene was taken aback. When Deborah had first seduced Steven and gave birth to Lily, Irene had just seen her as a horrible person who had no morals. She had never thought that Deborah was actually this vicious and evil.
"She's way too evil. Call the police and arrest her immediately," Irene felt both angry and worried.
Edric shook his head, "We can't call the police! That would be going too easy on them."
"What are you planning to do then?"
"An eye for an eye!" Edric sneered, "They've plotted against us for so long. If we just report them and get them thrown in jail, that would be too lenient towards them. I want them to have a taste of their own medicine."
Margaret's life was still hanging by a thread in the hospital. He was mentally and physically exhausted, yet the culprits were living freely. Edric knew in his heart that throwing them into jail would not change anything. He felt like them truly suffering could not be achieved by death, but rather by destroying their hopes. He wanted them to suffer both mentally and physically, to feel that they were better off dead than alive.
He wanted to use his own means to make those sinners suffer, so he chose not to send them to jail.
Irene understood Edric's pain, and she asked, "What do you need me to help you with?"
"Just by taking good care of yourself and Eden will be the best help you can give me. In case they become desperate, I've arranged several bodyguards for you. Someone will protect you when you go out in the future."
"No, that would make me uncomfortable," Irene shook her head. She would feel uncomfortable having someone following her and watching her every move, so she did not want to go through that.
"No, you must listen to me this time. Deborah is a vicious person. If she tries to do anything to you, the consequences will be unimaginable." Edric insisted, "I will ask them to not get in the way. I'm telling you my plans, just in case you notice them and misunderstand why there are men following you."
"Alright," Seeing that he was insisting Irene had to agree. She was pregnant now, so she hardly went out anyways. Except for taking Eden to the hospital, she mostly stayed at home. It seemed that the existence of bodyguards would not really affect her life.
"Don't tell anyone about Deborah and the others, lest they ruin my plan," Edric warned her again.
"I can't tell Uncle Thomas either?"
"No, keep this matter to yourself."
Meanwhile, just as Jordan was planning to tell Irene about Deborah's affair, David came over. The past few days, he had been investigating the man that Jordan had beat up in the restaurant the other day. He told Jordan that he had found out all three of their identities. The man was the owner of a bar, Gordan Cassady. The two women were respectively his wife and his mistress.
"So they really had an affair. However, didn't you say that they seemed really close? It's rare for a wife to be good friends with her husband's mistress. Additionally, if they were close, why would they want to cause a scene like that at the restaurant?" Jordan was puzzled.
"I also found it to be strange, so I carefully investigated Gordan. I found something. Gordan used to be a gangster. He was involved in a lot of illegal activity and it was only recently in the past two years that he started going on the right track. He opened up a shop in the Western District and has been a law abiding citizen ever since."
"Are we wrongly suspecting him then?" Jordan frowned, "Forget it, take it slow. Keep an eye on him."
He gave Logan's photo to David, "This man has something going on with Mr. Cook's wife. You'd better keep an eye on him. Get a picture of them together if you can."
David took the photo and looked at it in surprise, "This man?"
"Do you know this person?"
"His name is Logan. He and Gordan used to work together. Now the two of them have apparently turned over a new leaf to start a business..."
"What did you say?" Jordan suddenly stood up. He had figured out the connection between Deborah and Logan's relationship and the incident. The answer was obvious.
That night, Jordan went over to Irene's place for dinner. He told her about Deborah and Logan but since she had already heard it all from Edric, she wasn't surprised. The only thing she found odd was that Edric had said Deborah and Logan were conspiring to commit crimes, but Jordan was telling her that Deborah was having an affair with him. Irene had to tell Edric about this.
Irene was calm but Kinsey was very excited, "I knew that b*tch was up to no good. Going to the beauty salon all the time. Hah! It's exactly what I suspected. We should tell Mr. Cook about this immediately and let him know what kind of woman he has by his side!"
"No!" Irene stopped her. Edric said that they should not alert the enemy. Wasn't this going to ruin his plan? She added, "We don't have any hard evidence that Deborah is with that man. Who is going to believe us?"
"Are you worried that Steven won't believe it?" Kinsley smiled coldly, "No man can stand being cheated on. When Steven hears of this, even if Deborah turns out to be innocent, he won't believe her."
"I'm not worried about him believing us. I just don't want him to suffer in regret! After all, this would be hard for anyone to accept," Irene shook her head. Steven would definitely not be able to accept his wife having an affair, but Deborah was no pushover either.
If she heard about the matter, she would definitely think of a way to try and fix it. If they did not handle this well, they might alarm her. Besides not wanting to ruin Edric's plan, Irene genuinely wanted to keep this hidden from Steven.
After all, Steven was her father. He had given her a life. She had no reason to make him suffer such humiliation at this old age.
"Everyone should be responsible for their own actions. This is retribution. Deborah shamelessly seduced her best friend's husband, so she should be punished," Kinsey insisted.
"Kinsey, I don't want to have anything to do with them. I have my own life, and there is no need for me to get caught up with them. I wouldn't be happy either."
"I knew that you would be like this. You're giving up such a good opportunity," Kinsey pouted. Beside her, Thomas interrupted, "People can't live in hatred. It'll wear you out and make you unhappy. I think Irene is right, so I support her!"
"Uncle Thomas!" Kinsey stomped her feet. She had been hoping that Thomas would help her persuade Irene, but unexpectedly he did just the opposite.
"Life is short. There is no reason for us to suffer from other people's mistakes. Steven's life has nothing to do with ours. Whether Deborah is having an affair or not, we shouldn't butt our noses into their business. We should not meddle and instead focus on our own lives."
Seeing that both Irene and Thomas were against the idea of taking revenge on Deborah, Kinsey and Jordan had no choice but to give in to them.
After dinner, Jordan said that he felt like getting some drinks at the bar. He asked Kinsey if she wanted to join. He had never invited her out to drink before, so Kinsey suspected that he had something he wanted to say to her. She agreed and they left together.
However, Jordan didn't have anything to say to her at all. Instead, he really did take her to a bar.
The bar was not a high-end bar, and the atmosphere was horrible. Kinsey found it to be odd. Jordan was the type of person who often frequented high-end places. Why would he suddenly want to come here? After drinking a few mouthfuls of wine, Kinsey was not in a good mood, so she complained to Jordan, "I'm so angry! Why is Irene so stupid? This is the perfect opportunity to mess with Deborah, so why won't she take it? And Uncle Thomas, is he really Irene's uncle? What kind of uncle is he even? How can he be so calm when he is watching his own niece and sister being plotted against!"
Jordan smiled and said, "Calm down. They all have their reasons. Thomas isn't wrong, and he just wants Irene to live a happier, simpler life. It's a good mindset to have. If all this while, he kept whispering bad things about Steven and Deborah into Irene's ear, she would not be the woman she is today. She would be filled with hatred for Steven, and she would definitely be extremely vengeful. However, she's not like that. Rather, she's full of life and hope. That's undeniably all thanks to Thomas."
"Have you changed your mind too? So you don't intend to deal those two b*tches anymore?" Kinsey was very disappointed.
"If Deborah had regretted her mistake from the past, if it was just a one time slip up, I would consider letting her off. However, that's obviously not the case," Jordan sneered, "Do you still remember what happened in the restaurant that day?"
"I remember." When he mentioned that, she felt a little embarrassed, "Sorry for troubling you that day."
"No, that's not what I'm talking about. Look over there, do they look familiar?"
"Isn't that woman the mistress from that day?" Kinsey recognized the woman.
"You have a good memory. Look over there," Jordan pointed to the other side. Kinsey looked over and saw the man who had got beaten up and also his wife. They were huddled together and seemed to be discussing something.
"What's going on? Have they made up?" Kinsey was confused and looked back at the mistress. Even if they did, why would they appear in front of the mistress?
"This man is the owner of this bar, and the woman is the boss' wife. The mistress is a waitress here," Jordan explained.
Kinsey looked around and was utterly confused. The three people in front of her were acting completely differently from the scenario she saw that day. The boss' wife already knew about her husband hooking up with one of their workers. That day she had even mentioned that she worked her a*s off just to feed the family. However, it seemed like there was no such thing.
"Next time, use your brain before acting. Not everything is worth standing up for...," Before Jordan could finish speaking, Kinsey stood up. Jordan grabbed onto her hand and asked, "What are you going to do?"
