To ensure his well–being, the little one remained in the hospital’s incubator. I planned to bring him home to visit my mother once he was fully stabilized.
As I busied myself with envisioning my future, Mason’s mother called to inform me that Erica’s respiratory failure was severe, and her time was likely short.
“Sometimes, I truly wonder if she is Mason’s fateful connection. Six years ago, she left without a word, nearly driving Mason to despair. Now, just as he has managed to build a happy family, she reappears, shattering his life once. more,” Mason’s mother lamented.

I listened quietly, occasionally offering agreement, completely distancing myself from this melodramatic triangle. I heard that Mason was by her side, the two clandestinely revisiting old memories in the hospital.
Erica passed away in Mason’s arms, clad in a pristine white princess gown, reminiscent of the day they first met. She ultimately got her wish, yet I pondered whether Mason would harbor
resentment towards her.
The cost of severing ties with family, losing a spouse, and becoming isolated was indeed
steep.
On the day the little one was discharged, Mason’s mother and father arrived as well, adorning him with a protective charm.

“Come, let’s have our baby Luca give grandpa a hug,” I suggested, noticing lan’s envious gaze as he watched Mason’s father hold the child. I
passed the baby to lan, who, taken aback by the title, joyfully received the little one after wiping his hands on his trousers.
“Look, he smiled at me!” lan exclaimed.
His cautious demeanor made my heart swell, I had long intended to address him as such.
Although the little one lacked a father’s love, the affection from his grandparents was
profound, and I hoped he would understand my choices.
The night before our return home, Mason appeared before me, reeking of alcohol.

“Rica, I never intended to abandon you, it’s just that you are too stubborn and sensitive, not
giving me any chance to make amends.”
“Rica, may I see the child?”
“No, leave,” I replied, unwilling to engage further, hastily cradling the baby and departing, fearful of Mason’s drunken outburst.
The next day, our flight swiftly arrived in the City.
Seeing the place where I had lived for over a decade, my heart finally found solace.
In response to neighbors subtle inquiries, I remained vague, merely expressing my longing for my mother and my desire to return with the child to visit her.

Upon my return, I had no intention of leaving again, I was solely focused on opening a guesthouse to provide for lan’s retirement.
