Chapter 71
Nelson carried Sabrina and said with a smile, "Acting cool doesn't suit you."
Sabrina remained silent and glared at him with the same intensity as that night.
He held her slender waist and leaned in for a kiss. She turned her face away in disgust. "What are you taking me for?"
She couldn't believe he would attempt to kiss her here.
He might have no shame, but she did.
"Fine. I respect you, Mrs. Tucker."
Nelson stood up cheerily.
However, Sabrina wasn't happy with this address.
In the past, Sabrina would chuckle with joy whenever Joanna called her Mrs. Tucker.
Marrying Nelson and becoming his wife seemed like a dream come true. It would always make her smile secretly.
But now that he didn't see her as his wife, the title felt deeply ironic.
Nelson glanced at her and saw her frowning unhappily. It was a stark contrast to her expression in Dewhurst.
The inn that Sabrina and Abigail had chosen was a sprawling estate with multiple wings.
The modern and elegant decor featured full-length windows that provided a panoramic view of the beautiful courtyard. Nelson sat on the couch before the windows while waiting for Sabrina to continue.
Sabrina stood still at the entrance.
Nelson called Frederick and placed the call on speaker.
"Hello."
"Send her back tonight," Nelson instructed.
"Okay."
Sabrina rushed over.
"Don't do anything reckless."
A chuckle rang out from the phone.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Tucker. I'm a gentleman."
Despite Frederick's decent appearance, Sabrina knew he was actually a scoundrel.
Frederick ended the call. Then, Nelson pulled Sabrina into his embrace.
"Is that enough, my dear wife?"
"Do you mean it? As long as Abigail doesn't want it, you'll handle the trouble with Frederick."
"As long as you're my wife, I'd be happy to help."
Sabrina leaned in to kiss him.
After some time, Nelson leaned back on the couch, smoking a cigarette in his disheveled clothes.
The sound of water from the bathroom made him narrow his eyes.
As the bathroom door opened, Sabrina emerged wearing a white nightgown. With rosy cheeks, she looked particularly beautiful.
She had changed her clothes and was drying her hair.
Nelson walked over and took the towel from her hand.
Sabrina turned around to glance at him. He poked her head with his finger, signaling her to turn around.
The two remained silent.
Sabrina's hair was rather long. Being inexperienced, Nelson clumsily dried her hair.
Based on the mirror's reflection, anyone would think they were a deeply loving couple.
Sabrina dried her hair. Meanwhile, Nelson changed into navy blue casual pants and a beige top. He had a khaki-colored knitted sweater draped over his arm. He went to hold her hand.
He glanced at her long shirt and pants.
"Don't you have a dress?"
Nelson had never seen Sabrina in a dress before. She was either dressed in basic work attire or casual wear.
"No."
Ever since she started working, Sabrina hadn't worn a dress.
She didn't like going out with him. As a couple who only appeared united on the surface, she felt exhausted traveling with Nelson. However, he had insisted, and she didn't bother resisting.
They walked down the street that had a traditional charm and brushed past tourists. Sabrina admired the clear water by the street.
Up ahead, someone was washing vegetables while children were playing in the water below. The atmosphere was lively.
The sun was setting in Panshaw, and the orange twilight blanketed the land. Sabrina took a picture of it, sent it to Abigail, and inquired about her dinner plans.
She received no reply when she sent the messages.
Sabrina felt much more downcast as she was worried about Abigail.
Nelson was behind Sabrina. They didn't talk but would hold hands from time to time.
Feeling rather dull, they stopped wandering, and Nelson found a restaurant.
The wild mushroom risotto had a tantalizing aroma. Sabrina was now hungry, so she ate silently with her head down.
Nelson sat across from her and watched her face finally come to life.
Night fell at 8:00 pm in Panshaw. The temperature difference between day and night was quite significant. Sabrina felt chilly.
Nelson draped his coat over her shoulders. She didn't act coy and obediently put it on.
At this moment, Abigail sent a voice message asking Sabrina for her location.
Upon hearing the voice message, Sabrina ran toward the inn.
Other than the main streets in Panshaw, some of the areas weren't illuminated. Sabrina stood in a dark alley.
Nelson walked leisurely behind with a cigarette in his mouth.
When Sabrina stopped in her tracks, he also stopped nearby and quietly smoked his cigarette.
When Sabrina turned around, she saw the crimson glow of his cigarette flickering. She gritted her teeth and walked back to his side. Nelson smirked and held her hand.
"Are you afraid of the dark?"
"It's better to remain cautious in an unfamiliar place," Sabrina replied.
After humming in acknowledgment, Nelson tossed his half-smoked cigarette on the ground and extinguished it.
They walked into the dark alley. Nelson hugged her and pressed her against the stone wall.
"What are you doing?"
"What do you think..."
