Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 29
We woke up hastily to the door being swung open.
”There you are, Kade’s been looking for you!” Cara said sounding stressed.
I rose a brow and laid back down again.
”Since when?”
”Since like an hour ago.” My heart sank and my stomach clenched.
”Which means he hasn’t been in the room all night to notice my absence until now.” Her eyes fell and her cheeks flushed.
”I’m sorry, I didn’t know” she said.
I got dressed and walked downstairs. Kade saw me and stomped over. I wasn’t going to take any crap from anyone, wether they were my mate or not made no difference. All I felt at this moment was anger and betrayal.
”Where the hell were you?”
”No, you first.” I said and crossed my arms over my chest.
”What do you mean?” I was pushing back the tears and chewing on the inside of my cheek.
”I woke up at one and you still hadn’t come back so I went to Annas room and slept there. You didn’t notice I was gone until this morning which means you were with her all night.” I said and heard the defeat in my voice.
”Are you ready?” Danielle squealed as she walked out into the foyer dressed in a skimpy see through dress with a bright pink bikini under.
Kade had a t-shirt and bathing shorts on.
”What is this?” I asked him quietly. Mason came out as well and it looked like they were all ready to take off.
”Are you coming to the waterfall with us?” She asked. I had felt it since yesterday, the bond between me and Kade getting weaker and I now think I understand why. It was weakening with me because it was getting stronger with her.
”No, i wasn’t invited.” I said and looked at Kade whose face fell for the first time.
”Layla,” he grabbed my hand but I pulled it away.
”Go, have fun.” I said in a monotone voice and walked back up. Anna walked with me and instead of walking to my own room I went upstairs with Anna.
There was a knock on the door just as we sat down and I went to check because I knew who it was.
”Can we talk?” Kade asked and I stepped out into the hallway.
”Where were you tonight?” I asked him before he had a chance to speak.
He rolled his shoulders back and lifted his head.
”I was talking to Danielle and I must’ve lost track of time.”
”I’ll ask again, where were you tonight?” He clenched his jaw and his eyes looked anywhere but at me.
”Kade?” I asked and he breathed out a heavy breath.
”We were on the fifth floor.” He said without making eye contact.
”I would like you to go.” Now his eyes met mine in desperation. He shook his head and stepped closer.
”Layla it meant nothing. We were just talking-”
”In the place where you planed to spend your future together, all night. While I was waiting for you to come to bed.” I said.
”Please leave, we have nothing more to say to each other.” Kade stepped closer and grabbed my shoulders. I tried squirming free but he hardened his hold.
”No, come with us, please I don’t wanna go without you.” I froze, reached up my hands and slapped his arms away from me. My own strength surprised me.
”I want you to go because I don’t want you here right now, Kade. I don’t want to see your face and I don’t want to hear your voice. In two days you have managed to break my heart and betray my trust and you don’t even see it. Your eyes are for her and I see that clearly now.”
”No it’s not like that. I love you!”
”I’m not questioning that-” I looked into his eyes, as deep as I could before hitting that wall he had up.
”-but can you really look me in the eye and say that you trust me? That you feel nothing for her?”
He staggered back a step.
”You haven’t trusted me since you found out what I was. You asked me to trust you when we were on the fifth floor but honestly…I don’t.”
I opened the door to Annas bedroom and looked at him before slowly closing the door.
”How are you?” Anna asked and smiled faintly when I sat down on the bed. I grabbed a pillow and hugged it as I leaned against the wall and pulled my legs up to my chest.
”I wanna leave,” I turned my head and looked at her with a pout. There was no way the I would start crying now because if I started I wouldn’t able to stop.
”You’re not leaving, she is.” Neither I nor Anna herself believed that statement.
”Have you seen anyone so happy to have me here as they were when they saw her?” Annas cheeks turned red and a crease formed on her forehead between her brows.
”They have a history,”
”And we don’t I get it.”
”That’s not what I mean. They’re gonna be fascinated and reminiscing for a few days and then it’ll wear off. They will all remember the fact that she left and broke several hearts. She didn’t only leave Kade, Layla, she left her people. Danielle left an entire pack that relied on her as their leader, as soon as that sets in, they will all turn on her.” I stared down onto the bed. Anna was right and I knew that but the love that Kade held for her led me think that he might not be as easily persuaded by his anger. If the Alpha forgives her, so will everyone else.
”They were up on he fifth floor the entire night.” Annas jaw dropped and her face was tuning red.
”Fuck,” she spat.
My brows furrowed and I looked at her as a thought hit me.
”I never checked behind the other door.” She bit down and nodded her head. I walked out of the room and decided to do something I should’ve done a long time ago.
”Are you sure about this?” She asked me as we walked up the stairs.
”Yes.” More sure than ever.
I stood in front of the door and reached out for the handle. As I pressed down my hand froze because I noticed that it wasn’t locked.
”They were in here.” I breathed and opened the door. The little bit of resilience and faith I had left was suddenly pulled from my body in one single breath.
My mind grew quiet for the first time in forever and my heart didn’t hurt, it didn’t sink, it was just numb. Everything I felt and everything I knew disappeared in one single glance.
I stepped over the threshold and walked over to the white painted wooden crib that stood against the wall. My fingers played over the mobile from which stars hung dangling down and in the middle was a moon.
This was a nursery, decorated and furnished. All that was missing was the baby and this was were they had spent their night.
The sound of footsteps running up the stairs had me turning slowly. The tears streamed down my face and I couldn’t stop it.
Kade halted to a stop by the last step, panting for air and his eyes widened when he saw my tear stricken face. Mason and Cara were standing behind him, both were looking with an intense fear at what was happening.
”No,” he said and shook his head.
”No no, let me explain.” He reached out his hand but did well not to approach me. I walked out into the hallway shaking my head slowly. The tears kept streaming and my lips were trembling.
”Layla let me explain.” I wiped my eyes and looked at him, the man I had given my heart to but all I saw was a stranger.
