Chapter Chapter Four
The darkness began to fade as I struggled to open my eyes. My head was pounding and my eyes were adjusting to the bright light as I took in my surroundings. I was in a new room, and this one only held a bed with white sheets, a dark brown dresser and a small book shelf in the corner with several books. I didn't understand what happened and why would I suddenly black out from the pain medicine, and another thing, how did I end up in a new room?
Once I felt like I was strong enough I decided to try and sit up. Managing to get myself sitting to where my feet were touching the ground I give my self a few moments before I push myself up so I can walk to the door. Turning the door knob I noticed it wasn't locked, thank the goddess. I didn't hear anything through the house so I was hoping nobody would be home. Trying to stay quiet I moved slowly down a hallway towards what I was assuming was my way out.
Finally reaching the door I opened it and saw that it was busy outside so I didn't know how I would managed to sneak past everyone. As I stepped out of the doorway a hand wrapped around my ankle, startled I looked and saw a handsome man sitting by the door way. He had messy dirty blonde hair, honey brown eyes and a sweet smile on his face.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not supposed to let you run away", he said in such a friendly tone.
"I don't understand where I am and what happened”, I replied.
As he stood I noticed how he towered over me, having to lift my head to look at him I said, "Can you help me since I can't leave?"
"How about we get something to eat then we can take a walk and I will answer any questions you have?"
As he said that my stomach growled loudly bringing a small smile to his face. Before I went to get something to eat with him I wanted to know his name, so I asked him.
He seemed schocked but replied,"Damian, and may I ask yours?"
"Lilith", I mumbled, "Where are we going to eat?"
Not answering me he just took my hand and led me towards a cabin that was longer and wider than the rest. I had a feeling that I needed to pull my hand away, but another part was feeling comforted by his hand holding mine. As he opened the door and led me through that is when he finally let go of my hand and I noticed the cabin was a dining hall. The smell made my hunger grow stronger if that was possible, and as I followed him towards a long table that had some muffins and fruit I started thinking about why he was being nice to me instead of locking me back in the room that I was at.
"Before you ask any questions I want you to eat and relax before we go on a walk”, he said while turning around to glance at me, but my eyes where on the muffins that were making my mouth water. He chuckled and handed me a plate, I went and grabbed two chocolate chip ones and a glass of milk. We went and sat down at a table without saying anything, I took a huge bite and was amazed that it melted in my mouth. With the flavor I was experiencing I couldn't help myself and a small moan escaped. I couldn't believe what I had been denied all these years, finally after the first muffin was devoured I looked at Damian and thanked him. He waved the thank you away and smiled.
"There is no need to thank me the food is for everybody here.”
After finishing the last muffin and chugging the milk I was ready for some answers. I walked to where I saw the dirty dishes at earlier and placed my plate and glass there carefully. When I turned around Damian was already waiting for me by the door, so I rushed over and followed him out. Everyone I saw earlier was still working outside, but now there was a small group of kids running around playing, as if he had eyes in the back of his head and saw me looking at the kids he said, "They have school so this is their chance to play for their break before going back and continue their studies.”
Before I knew it we were heading into the forest. I was waiting for him to speak first as I followed him deeper into the trees. He slowed down and was right next to me as we continued to walk, he looked down at me and said, "I know you must have many questions you want answers to so why don't we start."
Without hesitation I asked, "What happened to me? Why did I black out and wake up in that room?” "The healer didn't want you to leave right away, she has good intentions she knew you would continue running without trying to get answers about the magic that is binding your wolf. Our alpha has spoken to Amelia, the healer, and has gotten all the information about your condition. Right now Ruby, the woman you came to the healer with, is speaking to him about how she found you and what happened. All of them agreed that it was best if you were to stay here until we figure everything out”, he stopped so I figured it was for me to ask any questions about what he just said. "Why are they allowing a rogue to stay here with y'all, they don't think I am a danger to anybody?" I took this moment to glace at him and notice he was already looking at me with a look that seemed like he was trying not to smile or laugh.
"Ruby told the alpha what you have told her about why you left your previous pack, and he seemed to think you werent a danger since nobody felt threatened by you so far, and that there are plenty of strong wolves here to make sure nothing happens,” he chuckled and continued, "We all took turns guarding the door waiting for you to wake up so we could stop you from running away and answer any questions you would have before our alpha wanted to talk to you.”
I didn't seem to realize alot of time has passed since he just said the members of his pack were taking turns guarding the door so I asked, * How long was I asleep for?" I was extremely shocked at his reply, "Three days.” No wonder I was so hungry when I woke up, but I didnt know why I would sleep that long. I asked him, "How many members are in this pack?” I was curious because there couldn't have been more than fifteen cabins I counted as we walked to the forest. I must have miss counted when i arrived but I was in so much pain I wasn't paying much attention to what wasn't infront of me.
"156, I know that must shock you considering that there is only a few of our houses in the clearing, but alot of us wanted a little bit of privacy even though we are not far from the clearing," he paused before continuing, "The thing about our pack is that our alpha is not like others he lets us have some freedom that we would not be able to have if our alpha was anybody else. And for that we are all beyond thankful for him." For some reason I felt comforted by his words.
After walking for some time he decided we needed to turn around, as we were walking back I only had one more question for him, "Am 1 in any danger here?" He only took a second before answering me, "No, not unless you make yourself be in danger.” We had been walking for a few hours enjoying small talk and getting information about what has happened since I was asleep. It turns out that everyone is extremely curious about me, that several people already wanted to meet me and wanted to know my story of how such a young girl is a rogue wolf. I don't know how I feel about sharing my story with all of them, I was still trying to understand everything myself, so much has happened to me in the past week. It was lonely without a pack bond I realized and the pain of losing my mate was finally hitting me. Who would have figured that at age eighteen I would have gone through so much, and all of a sudden the image of my parents came across my mind with the last words they said to me that night before bed, "You are destined for great things Lilith, it will be a very challenging life but we know you are very special.” I had no idea why this memory decided now was a good time to remind me of my parents and what they said to me, but it calmed me with the feeling of their love.
It was time to meet the alpha of this pack, and I wanted a place that would accept me hoping this would be it.
