Rehabilitating the Villainess

Chapter 81: Reply (2)

I finished reading the letters. However, I didn't expect that it would affect me in such a way.

So I read the letter once more.

In order to savor the emotion, I contemplated the contents and crafted a reply for Shael in another letter.

Soon, the letter to Shael was complete—an earnest expression of my feelings for Shael, who had been exhibiting peculiar behavior lately.

Actually, I intended to use this later to calm her down.

I couldn't help it, as the letters conveyed something significant—Shael was still feeling insecure..

Although I could have simply handed it to Shael by opening the door, but I refrained. Because I knew that Shael, who was curious about my reply, would eventually open the door and come in herself.

Anyways, I had also found a peculiar contract enclosed in the box Shael had given me.

‘What could this be?’

I took out the contract hidden among the letters, and read it. It bore the distinctive writing style that could only belong to Shael.

[Eran Baslett is forbidden from coming into contact with the opposite gender except for Shael Azbel.]

[Eran Baslett will make dessert for Shael Azbel every day.]

[Eran Baslett will get Shael Azbel’s permission before he has a meeting with anyone.]

…(omitted)…

[Even if Eran Baslett becomes a duke, he will give more priority to spending time in the Azbel family than his work.]

Shael's handwriting, previously straight, became increasingly curved. It must have been due to the shame she was feeling as she wrote.

From the contents, it was obviously a contract embodying Shael's wishes. On the reverse side, there was even a place for signature.

‘Isn't this contract ridiculously unfair?'

There was nothing in it that was advantageous towards me, yet I signed it anyways. And, it was something I was determined to fulfill. If this could offer even a modicum of stability to Shael, it would be to my advantage.

Kikrriiik!

As soon as I finished signing, the door swung open.

Concealing the signed contract, I questioned Shael, "What is it?"

"The butler told me to hurry and get a reply to the letter. It's been quite a while, so, of course, you wrote a reply, right? I heard that the letter from the clothing shop is particularly urgent…"

"I wrote a lot."

The butler told her to hurry? Nonsense! contemporary romance

The butler must have already returned to the Baslett family.

I pretended to believe her lie and handed the reply to Shael, along with the contract.

Kikrrriiik!

However, Shael left before I could even give the contract to her.

"She must be quite anxious…"

Anyway, since I sent a reply, sooner or later, I would be able to see her blushing face.

Awaiting Shael's reaction, I started perusing the remaining papers to pass the time.

***

[Shael’s POV]

Shael hurriedly walked over, and pressed herself against the room's wall, wanting to get as far away from Eran as possible.

Then she looked at the reply in her hands.

Upon checking, the response to the letter she had sent, posing as the clothing shop's owner, was there. Shael took a deep breath and began reading the letter.

[I will think more about the wedding dress. First of all, I want to respect Shael's opinion more than mine.]

Shael frowned. She didn't care about the wedding dress anyway.

[Would you be kind enough to tell us when your marriage with Young Lady Shael will be held?]

Yes, it wasn't the wedding dress that mattered. The answer to this question came first!

But there was nothing related to it. It was so strange that Shael doubted her eyes.

She stared at the letter in disbelief, making a sullen expression. Her raised head was already facing the floor. Shael's hand, holding the letter, trembled. A constant feeling of uneasiness ran through her mind.

Ever since witnessing the conversation between the Mage Tower Lord and Eran, as well as the numerous letters aimed at her lover had left Shael in distress.

"…"

What if, by any chance, the doubt turn out to be true?

‘It would be clear to anyone that I was acting suspicious. In fact, I deserve it. I have been bullying Eran for a long time.’

If she thought back to her memories of the past, no matter how much Eran tried to get close to her, she would always insult him. Anyone would get tired of such a vile behavior.

Feeling sad, tears welled up in Shael’s eyes.

She kept feeling sad over trivial things. She felt that she was stupid. She felt pathetic for shying away from doing things that other people wouldn't mind doing.

Shael continued to curse herself inwardly, and lowered her hand holding the letter to erase even a little bit of the miserable feeling she had in her heart.

And after she calmed down, she would go to Eran, hiding her true feelings, saying she wanted to eat desserts.

It was then that a clear sound awakened the darkness in Shael's head.

Tooung!

Something fell from the letter Eran had handed to her, making a clear sound as it collided with the floor.

Shael focused her eyes, blurred by her little tears.

And, she noticed a ray of golden light illuminated by the light of the lamp.

The ring, which had arbitrarily illuminated Shael's hazy mind, rolled on the floor.
