Chapter 13
Chapter Thirteen: Bate Night
Chapter Thirteen: Date Night II
In about a few minutes into midnight we finished our meal and headed to the parking lot as we made
to leave.
“I had a great day today.” 1 said.
“Me too. Would you be free by next weekend?” He asked as they walked out through the door.” Preferably Saturday afternoon.”
“Uhmm… ” I tapped my index finger on my left cheek and pretended to be in deep thoughts.
“I don’t know if that’s a bad day but 1 was thinking If you could spare some time to come talk to the children at the club.” He quickly interrupted my thoughts.
“Oh yeah, the Club.” I muttered under my breath and whistled lightly.
“Fine. I’ll be there for those kids. I’ll cancel all i
plans for that day. Just hold on,” After which I
pulled a call through to my personal assistant.
“There goes one.”
“Let me drive you home.”
“But we both came with our rides.”
“I can come back for mine later.”
“I want to make sure that you get home safely.”
“C’mon Evans you worry too much and besides I’m a big girl literally. I can handle myself.” I opened
the door to my car.
“See you around.”
“You really are a hardened but to crack. I like it.” He smirked.
“Bye Evans.”
The next day, I was seated in my office when I heard a knock.
“Come in,” Jane pulled the door open.
“What is it Jane?”
“There is someone here to see you.”
“Last I’d checked the schedule for today, I don’t expect any visitors and have no scheduled
appointment so I’m a bit surprised.‘
“He said it is important that he sees you.”
“What did he say his name is?”
”
“He chose to keep it anonymous.
“Okay let him in.
I gasped in surprise and excitement when Evans entered.
“Ok Evans it’s you! The anonymous guest. “I tried to hide the excitement but it was clear now that I
was happy to see him.
“Were you expecting anyone else?”
“1 sure wasn’t,” I walked over to him as I went in for a hug. Even If I tried so hard to not let him in, I could not deny the fact that we shared a very strong chemistry. I pulled away from him and his eyes caught mine again and I looked away smilin
“You know you have such a pretty smile and I feel extremely blessed each time I see you do that.” He added flatteringly when he noticed my cheek slowly rising.
“Great place you have here.” He said as he looked around the office. The office was truly phenomenal and offered some sort of psychological calmness to almost everyone who stepped in. A TV set hung on the wall along with a few photos. It was Angela’s idea. She said it was better as it spoke volumes of my achievements although I did not really fancy it. An electric screen was placed just beside the TV set and on it was displayed the top profile cases I had worked on, the estate and large deals I had sealed in the previous years.
“Thank you.” I said in honest appreciation and pinching myself to stay calm and composer/ surprised to see you here and happy too. How did you know my office?”
“You are popular now so your office location wasn’t so hard to find.”
“What brings you here?”
“I was passing by and I thought it’ll be nice to drop by and at least say hello or hi or perhaps, something a little longer.” He replied. “Is it a bad habit to stay up in the office and chat with a lover?” He questioned but quickly choked changing the topic. Perhaps he had gone a little too far with the lover‘ description. “I was in the neighborhood and thought to stop by and I wanted to know how the campaign was going?”
“Pretty slow. When I first saw this picture I thought it would be easy but from here it’s pretty choking. No fundings, no…
“No funding? That sounds so unreal.”
“I know right. Thomas has all the access to all the money. I didn’t even know what I was thinking when I agreed to do this.”
“Hey, hey slow down, don’t be too hard on yourself. I know that you got this
“But how? I can’t do this without the money.”
“That should not be a problem. I would help with that.”

“Evans no, I don’t want to put this on you.”
“You aren’t putting anything on me. I choose to do this. I want to do this.”
“But why?”
“Because I…” At that moment a soft tap on the door interrupted us. Jane walked in just at that moment with a bag in her hand.
“From the delivery guy, Mr Evans.”
“McDonalds. What is this about?” I asked as he received the package.
“Thank you very much, Jane. I ordered this before I arrived here so we would have an early lunch together.”
“That’s so thoughtful but…”
“Come on… No buts here. It would just be the two of us.” I smiled as he spoke about us, it felt warm.
“Okay, that’s fine.”
He opened the package and took out the plate of ice cream and bag of popcorn.
“Peppermint is my favorite. How did you know it’s my favorite.”
“It’s my favorite too.”
“Wow, I didn’t realize we had so much in common.” He chuckled as he took out two plastic spoons
and gave one to me.
“Who would have thought eating ice cream and popcorn in a Regina Miles office and one of the finest in the state, would be so much fun?” He teased which cracked us up as we burst into laughter.
With Evans time flew fast as it was almost three hours when we realized that it was far spent.
As he turned to leave, he stopped as if to say something, only to move on again.
“Hey, what is it?” I asked piqued with curiosity.
“It’s nothing, I’m fine. I have to go now.”
“Hey, don’t say that. Talk to me.”
“I just don’t want to say goodbye. It hurts me every time that I have to leave. But it’s fine I have to go now. I’ll put a call through to you.” With those words he went out through the door. As soon as he walked out streams of mixed emotions engulfed me. I had a great time with him but his look before he walked out troubled me. Jane walked in to drop the files.
“Are you okay, ma’am.” She seemed to have noticed my mood.”
“Yes,” I lied.
“Okay,” She made to leave.

“What do you think of him?” Jane wore a sly smile and took permission to sit.
“He is really
official yet?”
handsome and no kidding, you both suit each other, I don’t mean to pry but are you guys
She asked with a penetrative gaze that pierced through my soul.
“I don’t know.” I replied in a disappointed tone.
“He said something about us being lovers though…” I began and smiled when Jane interrupted to ask if he really did that.
“Yeah, he did. He said that.” I took a glance at my wrist watch and was surprised to find that it was already a couple minutes past work hours. “C’mon, why didn’t you tell me we were past working hours?” I quizzed with a feigned frown. Jane glanced at her own wrist watch and was surprised to see that it was just as she said.
“Oops I didn’t know, I’m so sorry.”
“What are you apologizing for?” I asked as I left the seat to arrange my stuff.
“Let’s go already.”
