Chapter 219: Alpha Lineage
Giselle's POV
I couldn't help but openly stare at Alpha Theron and his son and daughter, just like everybody else.
Alpha Theron doesn't look like what I expected him to be. I heard he has two grown-up children, so I was expecting a silver-haired man whose skin had sagged of old age. However, the person I saw is not a man grown old by age, but only a man who grew old with wisdom.
His grey streaks of hair did not add to his age but instead added to his handsome features. I could see why Astrid could have fallen for him.
Even at his age, he still had the looks that could attract young women to him.
My jaw clenched when I realized that Alpha Theron didn't look like I expected.
It would have been better if this Alpha looked more like his age. With that, it would have been easy to make people think that Astrid was just dating him for his status and money.
Also, if only I had known that the Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack would look this young and handsome, I would have rather gone to the Shadowfang Pack than to be in the Silvermoon Pack.
In that way, things could have been easier. I heard that this Alpha's mate is already dead, so I wouldn't even have to compete with anybody.
My eyes landed on the two people following closely behind him. According to Killian, they were his son and daughter, sharing the regal bearing of their father.
Their youthful energy added a different dimension to the procession. His son walked with a purpose, his gaze steady and resolute, hinting at the future Alpha that he would one day become. Meanwhile, his sister radiated a more graceful poise; her steps were light and elegant, and there was a natural charm in her every movement.
The leaders of the Shadowfang Pack really stood out from the others. A lot of the people here are also born from an Alpha lineage like them, yet they are different from the rest of us.
My gaze turned to the next, only to find that there was no one else other than them. A smug smile curled my lips when I found out that Astrid was not there with them.
Although she's the Alpha's secret lover. That still doesn't make her walk together with them.
But, if the person that I'm looking for is not there with them, then where is the person that I'm looking for?
My face paled, and my heart skipped a beat when I realized that something was wrong here. If the whole Alpha lineage of the Shadowfang Pack is already here, then to whom is this ceremony all about? My eyes darted frantically from face to face as I scanned all the guests sitting inside the grand hall right now.
Unease grew inside of me, gripping me tight as I got through all their faces without finding the person that I was looking for.
Where is she? Astrid has to be here somewhere.
I craned my neck, peering over the sea of heads, my gaze narrowing as I tried to pick out her familiar features. A furrow creased my brows as I saw no signs of her.
This cannot be! This cannot be what I feared, right?
"What's wrong?" Killian whispered to me when he noticed me looking frantically around, my neck craning, and my head snapping in different directions.
I looked at him in surprise when he noticed my troubled expression. "N-Nothing," I stammered, failing to hide my worry.
Killian's gaze narrowed down, not buying my words. "I-I just feel uneasy. Where is Ryker?" I asked him, blaming it on the mother instincts that I certainly don't have with Ryker.
"Don't worry, Ryker is fine. I have guards guarding his room and his nanny is there with him," Killian replied, assuring me.
I let out a deep breath to pretend that I was relieved, but I still couldn't take away the worry that I felt as I wondered where Astrid was and what Drystan meant when he said that I should wait until Astrid arrived?
"Killian, we should leave," I grabbed Killian's arm and pressed my brows together as I pleaded with him.
However, Killian stood rooted on the ground and only stared at me with confusion written all over his face. "What are you doing, Giselle?" he questioned me in a small whisper.
He looked around, seeing if anyone noticed us. "W-We should go back. I think Ryker needs us, we must check on him," I begged him.
Something is wrong here. I think
Astrid and Drystan are planning something, Unless I find out what that is and unless I find out where Astrid is hiding, I have to get Killian out of here quick before things could go wrong.
"Stop making a scene, Giselle," Killian grabbed his arm away from me and glared at me. "Do you know where we are? People from different Packs are here watching us. Don't
make a scene here." Killian hissed at
me.
My vision turned blurry as I forced out tears in my eyes. Crying is the only option I have to persuade Killian to get out of here.
Seeing the tears in my eyes, Killian gets ahold of himself. "Calm down, Giselle. If something is wrong with Ryker, the nanny would surely report to us through the Pack link. Hold yourself together, the ceremony is about to start. We cannot just leave here," Killian assured me
As my pleas fell on deaf ears, the final chimes of the clock tower rang out, signalling the arrival of the hour.
As the echoes faded, a hush fell over the grand hall. Every head turned as the massive wooden doors swung open, revealing a vision in red.
