Chapter 7. New Friends
"He lead girls on and when he's bored, he dispose of them like their trash." She said again while ripping her fries apart.
I wonder when he ripped her heart out.
"It seems like you have a history with him." I said as a matter of fact.
She looks at me surprised by my comment.
"I...I didn't say that " she stuttered, her cheeks flushing red.
I never even thought that Mason had any friends. He just seemed more of a loner to me.
Jake and Mason took a seat by group of cheerleaders who started to giggle.
Jake had on his Oscar smile while Mason....looked, rather bored.
A girl with blonde hair whispered into Mason's ear and I felt a pang in my gut. I'm not jealous. Xayla you're not jealous.
Mason flinched away from her, thank heavens but that didn't stop the blonde.
She went closer to him and ran her fingers up his arm to his shoulder and clung to it while putting her legs over his.
COUGH-slut-COUGH
I couldn't tell what Mason was saying but the girl started to blush. I'm confused as to why because Mason's face held pure hatred and annoyance......as usual I might add.
Jake on the other hand welcomed the attention with opened arms. He seemed preoccupied flirting with a brunette....well, he was flirting with all four of them except the one that had her legs sprawled on my Mason-on Mason.
I sighed and looked away from them and turn to face my new group of friends.
Evan was looking at Cynthia with puppy dog eyes, Cynthia was looking at her nails again and...Chloe.
Chloe was looking directly at me. She had on a mischievous grin and I could tell she saw the way I was looking at Mason.
"What was that I saw...hmmmm....jealousy?" She asked grinning.
My face began to flush crimson red at her question.
"I..I'm not jealous Chloe." I rolled my eyes at her.
"Why would I be?" I asked her looking down at my half eaten sandwich.
"Don't be silly Xayla. Its because you like him." She whispered in my ear.
I looked up to see if Cynth or Evan heard but they didn't.
"I don't. He's been nothing but a jerk to me. Why would I like a douche like him." I asked her in my pretend annoyed voice.
"I don't know, because he's hot." She said eyeing me.
I shook my head ignoring her. I don't like Mason O'Brien. I'm attracted to him but I don't like his bi polar personality.
I looked towards his table again and my eyes met a pair of blue ones looking back at me. It had pure hatred in it.
I looked away quickly and took a bite of my sandwich.
"Mason hates me anyway." I mumbled aloud.
"I'll be the judge of that my dear." Chloe seemed to hear me and responded while patting my head.
"What are you two talking about?" Evan asked.
"Oh Elena here has a----
"Fashion emergency. I have a wedding to attend this weekend and I have nothing to wear." I cut Chloe off with a lie.
"Ummmm okay. Can't help you there." Evan said slowly.
"Hey! I know, we could have a girls day. We could go shopping and get our Mani and pedi. I don't know about you girls but I am in need of a Mani." Cynthia announced.
"I agree. I'll send you guys the deets later." Chloe replied.
"I think your nails look beautiful just the way they are right now." Evan told Cynthia.
I laughed inwardly. Evan seriously needs to work on his flirting skills.
"But I don't think so and that's what matters." Cynthia said not even taking a glance at Evan.
Evan looking away from her feeling embarrassed. I'm sensing that he has a huge crush on her and she's oblivious.
I looked at Chloe and pointed at Cynth and Evan asking what's going on between them.
"Evan has a crush on her ever since freshman year but he didn't have the nerve to tell her. Evan's confident but he's extremely shy when it comes to Cynthia." Chloe whispered to me.
I smiled to myself. I love playing matchmaker. All Evan needs is a little push and I can give him that. As for Cynthia, I just need a chance to look into her mind to see whether or not she likes Evan in boyfriend way.
"Ummm Elena." Chloe poked me.
"Hmmm." Still preoccupied thinking about my plan.
"Ummm Mason, Jake, headed our way." The minute she said that my head snapped up in their direction.
Mason looked annoyed, nothing new, and Jake was smiling.....at me. I can't help but blush.
"Hi i'm Jake and you must be Elena." he said to me holding out his hand for me to shake.
I took it immediately looking in his eyes.
'Now she's what I call gorgeous. I don't care what Mason says, I know deep down he thinks the same.'
I let go of his hand and smiled cheekily.
"Nice to meet you. How do you know my name?" I asked him even though I knew Mason was the one who told him.
"Well I think everyone knows the name of the girl who bravely stood up to my friend here." He said cocking his head to the right pointing to Mason.
Mason shook his from side to side rolling his eyes.
I giggled looking at both of them.
Jake smirked at me, his brown eyes dazzling. Those eyes. I can't help but gaze into them. I felt nothing but warmth coming from him.
Mason cleared his throat looking at Jake with a scowl.
Jake looked at him and shrugged.
"Hey there Pbear. How are things?" I asked Mason pretending we were long time friends.
Mason swiftly turned his head in my direction with his bushy eyebrows furrowed.
"I told you not to call me that." He gritted through his teeth.
"Wait what? Pbear? What does it mean?" Jake asked me amused.
"Since he obviously is bi polar, I decided to call him Pbear, shortening for polar bear." I said flatly.
Jake started to laugh. "I love it! Mason was right, you do have a smart mouth. I like that." He said the last part looking me straight in the eyes with a smirk.
I couldn't help but blush. Is he flirting with me?
Don't feel special Xayla, he's a player.
But I don't think he is deep down. He does it for a reason. I can see it in his eyes.
Jake hit is forehead with his palm suddenly and muttered something sounding like a "shit" causing me flinch back from the sudden action.
"I'm such a jerk. Hi Chloe, Evan, Cynthia." He said with an apologetic smile.
They all muttered a hey and what's up at the same time. How did he know their names...oh right. He knows everyone but like Evan said, not just everyone he makes his friend. Mason is his only friend at the school. The others were just acquaintances.
Jake seemed like he was about to say something else but Mason dragged him by the collar walking away from our table and towards the door.
"Talk to you some other time Elena!" He shouted.
I blushed red from the gazes from the cafeteria that fell on me.
"He likes you." Chloe said blatantly.
"I thought you said he was a player." I replied.
"Actually, I said it and I still stand by it." Cynthia told me annoyed. I guess she didn't like being in the presence of Jake.
On the other hand, i'm looking forward to the next encounter I may luckily get with Mr Jake himself.
