Chapter 23. Let's Talk
Mason took me home later that afternoon and I was so sad that I had to go but I was in need of a good shower and fresh new clothes.
Chloe had drop off my car in the evening and my phone and purse. Luckily everything was in tact. She decided to stay the evening because she wasn’t feeling emotionally stable after hearing Jackson allegedly ‘made out’ with some girl.
“Why do I always get the bad guys.” She sniffed.
We were in my bedroom on the bed. She had a jar of cookie and cream ice cream and i’m positive that her tears were mixed up in that.
“Maybe you like bad guys. Do you see the pattern?” I asked.
“Ummm I do like them but Jackson seemed so genuine. When I first saw him, no one spoke to him because he was new. I was the only one who did.” She wept.
“Don’t worry honey, you’ll find someone even better than Jackson.” I sighed. Hopefully that guy won’t be another spy sent to hunt me down.
“Hey what happened between you and Jake last night. He told me you two got in a fight.” She questioned with ice cream in her mouth.
“Oh yeah that. I told him I liked him but I liked Mason too. He told me to choose but I couldn’t.” I mumbled.
“He seemed pretty bummed out last night. He said that Mason always gets the girl he wants and he doesn’t. I think you should talk to him.” She muttered.
“Yeah I’ll call him later. I really don’t want them not ever speak to each other again because of me. ” I sighed.
“They get into fights like this all the time. They’ll get over it. ” she said pushing it aside.
“Ohhh what happened last night with Mason? You slept at his house!” She squealed.
“Shhhh!” I shushed her covering her mouth. I do not want Kalina to overhear our conversation.
She sat there grinning like an infant.
“Yeah I slept there. Nothing happened sexually if that’s what you’re asking” I whispered.
“But you wanted it didn’t you ?” She pushed.
“He has a girlfriend....oh wait..” Mason had told me that he was going to break it off with Mikaela this evening so he could be with me.
“What what?” She said shaking my shoulders.
“He told me last night that he’s going to break up with her today.” I breathed.
“Well that’s good isn’t it. That bitch can finally refrain herself from sitting at our table.” She hissed.
“Yeah...” I mumbled.
“Hey I didn’t see Cynthia and Evan last night.” I added.
“Oh those two decided to bail the dance before it even started. They had their hands all over each other before you got there.” She said it disgustingly but she had a smile on her face.
“Good for them” I grinned. I’m happy that they were finally together.
“Hey aren’t you planning to take those contacts out?” She asked looking at me.
My eyes widen and jumped up to go look in the mirror. I sighed when I realized that I didn’t have in my green contacts. My eyes were their natural purply shade. I grabbed the container with the contacts before going to the bathroom.
“Gimmi a minute.” I muttered to Chloe on my way there.
I quickly put them in and washed my face. I walked out to find Chloe on my laptop ordering pizza.
“Hey you wanna have that girls day out thing we planned a few weeks ago with Cynthia?” I asked her. I was desperately in need of some blonde highlights on the bland brown hair of mine.
“Oh yeah, we could go next Saturday.” She popped out her phone texting someone. I assume its Cynthia.
“Tell her i’m happy for her and Evan and I want the details Monday.” I told Chloe looking over her shoulder.
The pizza came an hour later. Fifteen minutes late. Chloe ordered a large meat pizza with spicy wings and bread sticks on the side. Thank you Chlobear.
We stuffed our gut while watching The Notebook. Chloe cried her eyes out while I just sat there offering a pack of Kleenex.
“How can you not be crying right now?” She sniffed looking at me.
“I watched this so many times, it hardly affects me anymore” I stated.
She hmmph and turned her attention back to the TV, blowing her nose. Yuck.
I heard the doorbell ring, so I got up.
“Xa-Elena go get that!” Kalina shouted from upstairs.
Yeah yeah yeah.
I opened the door to find a nervous looking Jake standing there with his hands in his pocket.
“Can we talk , please?” He questioned.
“Yeaah sure.” I stepped outside with him and sat down on the step.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“I’m sorry for being a jerk to you last night. I was just so pissed at Mason for stealing you from me” he apologized.
“Mason doesn’t own me Jake.” I stated.
“So do I have a chance with you then?” He asked looking hopeful with those puppy dog eyes. Ugggh my weakness.
“I just need some time to figure out who I want and if choosing one of you, will rip your friendship with him into pieces, I don’t wanna risk that.” I sighed.
He looked away from me disappointed by my answer.
“I think I rather be friends with you than lose you forever Ellie.” He sighed after around five minutes of silence.
Well that made my decision so much easier.
“Oh thank you Jake. I really didn’t want to lose you.” I hugged him.
He wrapped his arm around me and squeezed.
“Hey Jake, I can’t breathe. Tiny girl, remember?” I forced out.
He let go quickly and I took a deep breath.
“Hey if you decide to be with Mason, i’ll be okay with it. Like I said, I really don’t want to lose you.” He said seriously, with care in his eyes.
“Okay Dimples.” I kissed him on his cheek.
“I’ll see you at school okay?” He smiled before walking away.
“Bye Jakey.” I shouted.
“Hey woah, do not call me that. My mom calls me that and I hate it.” He said in a serious tone but his smile remained playful.
I laughed. I was really happy that things were okay between me and him. After he drove off I went back inside to find Chloe backing away from the door with a guilty expression.
“You were eavesdropping weren’t you..” I stated narrowing my eyes at her.
She nodded smiling.
“So you and Jake are okay now.” She said more of a statement than a question.
“Yeah” I sighed smiling.
“So that means you and Mason can get physical with each other now.” She grinned doing a thrusting motion with her hips.
“Oh please stop. My eyes!” I screamed covering my eyes.
She just laughed at my comment before getting back to her pizza. I tell yah, that girl sure can eat.
