Chapter 18: Jakki
“So, did you and Jay meet with Mae?” Tadashi asked. He handed me a glass of blood and a plate with Chinese food on it before plopping down on the recliner. Andrew was already sitting on the couch, practically inhaling his food. He stopped for a few seconds and moved over so there was room for me to sit next to him.
I sat down and took a sip out of the glass. It was sweet- positive blood. I looked at the steam coming off the food and took a small bite. It was hot, but it didn’t feel like it was burning. Andrew and Tadashi looked at me and I realized I haven’t answered their question yet.
“Yes, sorry,” I covered my mouth until I swallowed the food. “I did meet with Mae. She seemed nice.” I looked down and traced the rim of my glass. “How did you know I was a Vampire, Tadashi?” I glanced back up at him and took another drink.
He bit his lip and Andrew went back to eating. “I’m close to the leaders. My parents were their advisors, and when they… Passed away, I took over the role. I’m not technically their advisor, since I’m still only 15, but I do help them out and they’re training me so I can be an advisor for the new leaders when we’re all old enough. I’m able to look at paperwork and read about the new people and new Rogues that come into our facility.”
I nodded and looked down. “So, you know what happened to me, then?”
He shrugged and leaned back in his chair. “I know whatever Sierra’s mother told the leaders, and she only told whatever you told her. I know you were on the streets before Sierra found you. I know your house burned down, you and your sister being the only survivors. I know your parents weren’t the best people in the world, but I didn’t get anything detailed.”
I nodded and decided to take another bite of food. “Do you know if my sister’s okay? Rachelle? Where is she?”
Tadashi bit his lip and shook his head. “I didn’t even know she was coming with you until you all showed up. Even though the facility allows Psychics, and they are important to us, we don’t keep close track of them. They’re humans with old magical ancestors. They have enough magic in their blood to be powerful, but not enough to be a Witch.” I looked down sadly. Tadashi sighed. “They probably have the paperwork for the family she moved in with. I haven’t looked at any new paperwork since this morning before I went training. I can check what family she was given to tomorrow.” He yawned and leaned back in his chair. I realized that he didn’t eat any food, but didn’t say anything. “I’m tired…”
Andrew rolled his eyes. “You know, people usually take showers after they train.”
Tadashi sat back up. “Why shower when I have cologne and deodorant?” I grimaced in disgust.
Andrew shook his head, saw my face, and laughed. “I agree with her. How do girls find you so appealing?”
Tadashi smirked. “My smashing good looks?”
Andrew shook his head and mumbled, “or a love potion.” He yawned and stood up. “I’m going to bed.”
“So you’re just going to leave your guest out here?” Andrew just waved his hand, already walking away.
“Yeah, yeah, entertain her or something. G’night.” He went into the room and shut the door behind him.
Tadashi sighed and looked at me. “He’s a night owl. Once the moon is in the sky he’s off to bed. When he wants to sleep, he’s going to sleep.” He shook his head. “He’s a killjoy at parties.” He said jokingly.
I smiled. “That sounds like my sister. She was a real Sleeping Beauty.” I thought about Rachelle, hoping she was okay with the family, before looking at Tadashi. “What did Andrew mean by a love potion?” I bit my lip.
Tadashi just snorted and shook his head. “Ignore him, he’s joking. Since I’m a Wizard he jokes about me using love potions or glamour spells to make me appealing to girls. Which is not true, by the way. And love potions aren’t even a real thing.” He stood up and reached his hand out. I looked at him oddly and he pointed at my empty glass.
“Oh,” I said, handing him the glass. “I didn’t even realize I drank it all...” He nodded and picked up my plate.
“Most Vampires are like that- especially if they haven’t drank much. Do you want more?” He put the dishes in the sink and turned back to face me.
I shook my head and looked at the clock on the wall. “Actually, I think I should be getting home… Well, to the apartment.” I stood up and looked at the door, then back at Tadashi. “Do you happen to know where room 354 is…?”
Tadashi smiled and nodded. “Yeah. Next floor up. Come on, I can show you.” He grabbed his keys off the counter and we left the room.
We went up the elevator in silence, neither knowing what to say. When we got to the next floor he led me through the halls before stopping at my door. He looked at me. “Please tell me you have a key.” I thought for a second before nodding and digging through my pocket. “Yeah, they gave me a key.”
He waited until I unlocked the door. “Hey, I can find out where your sister is tomorrow and show you where she is. And… I could show you around the town outside the facility… If you want. You can just come over to my apartment, since you know where it is, or find me in the facility, and we can go.”
I nodded. “That’d be great. Thanks, Tadashi.” He nodded before waving and walking away. I watched him for a few moments before shaking my head and unlocking the door, going into the apartment.
It was dark, but I heard quiet music from one of the bedrooms. I assumed that was the room Jay picked out, so I found the other one and turned on the light. I looked through my suitcase of minimal stuff before finding and changing into pajamas. I laid in bed and yawned, falling asleep, still partially nervous of the boy in the next room.
