Our Luna, Our Mate by Linda Middleman

Athena's POV

The moment Ares had said that the Pack's BBQ was for me I couldn't help but smile. For part of me wanted to forgive him along with Eros while another part of me wanted to stay as mad as I possibly could, to teach them how it felt to be lonely and unwanted. And yet, after much talking to Artemis that night and most of the morning I knew deep down that what they were doing was in order to protect me. To protect me and our pups from the dangers that lurked around every corner.

For as long as Lily was out there, somewhere, then my mates knew that I would never be safe until she was killed. And yet, I had still managed to turn it against them by accusing them of not wanting to be with me.

'Hey don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure if it had been the other way around, then they probably would have done it right back to you' offers Artemis, hoping to help ease my worry.

'Thanks, but... There's no excuse for me to be that childish. For I did know what they were doing and I still managed to complain.. Making it seem bigger than it really was' I murmur back to her. 'Yet they're still finding a way to fix their mistakes. So it really is a win-win if you ask me' chimes Artemis, causing me to roll my eyes before returning my attention back to those around me. An hour or so later

The party was still in full swing, every member of the pack coming to officially greet their new Luna or Alpha's for since the war with Ezra things had been extremely crazy with getting those settled and placed that no one had ever stopped to just mingle. 'Too crazy if you ask me' whispers Artemis.

'I know and now with these threats coming and going things are about to get a whole lot crazier' I add.

Suddenly, there's a small shout off in the distance causing everyone to move to turn towards the owner. A guard now running over in mine and Ares direction, Eros slowly approaching as well, scowl on his face as he did, clearly not liking what was about to be said. "Is-Is everything okay?" I whisper to Ares.

"Let me ask, stay here" whispers Ares as he moves to approach his brother and guard. Both of which didn't look very happy.

'Think we should go see what's going on?' asks Artemis.

'No, Ares told us to wait here and so wait here is what we'll do' I replied not wanting to disobey my mates wishes.

'Oh come on... Where's the fun?' whines Artemis.

'Artemis I said no, and no means no' I growled, needing her to know when to wait and when to spy on others.

'Spoil sport'

Shaking my head at her choice of words I continue to watch my mates with the guard, the guard handing Ares another piece of paper from what I could see from my spot, the paper in an envelope to help conceal it.

Taking the letter, Ares moves to open the envelope only to read what was inside, a murderous growl now rising at what he was reading, his eyes moving to that of Eros as Eros moves to nod, silently agreeing with whatever it was that Ares had just said to him. "Uh Oh... that spells trouble" whispers Kai, having come to stand next to me while Ares had left me to handle the scene before us.

"Uh oh what?" I ask back, my eyes still on my mates.

"Whenever he growls like that it usually means that someone's about to die and the lucky person to die will be Lily once we manage to locate her" answers Kai.

Swallowing, I can't help but feel the

panic and fear begin to rise again, remembering the last letter we had gotten and wondering what was

become too scared to ask as Eros and Ares move to turn overin my direction, eyes now on mine when they spoke.

"Kai, Take Athena home and stay with her until our return, Eros and I are going to scout the perimeter, make sure we have no unwanted guests for the rest of the night" orders Ares is eyes still on me as he did, his eyes telling me not to argue and do as I'm told to do. Nodding his head does Kai move to answer back. "Of course Alpha, I shall do so at once"

Turning to me does Kai move to speak. "Come Luna, let's get you back home, where it's safe for you and the pups."

Biting my lip I only manage a nod, letting Kai quickly escort me back home, not wanting to stay out in the open for too long encase something should magically happen, leaving me wide open for an attack, an attack I was not ready for nor wanted even though when first came to this place that Artemis had all but wanted to challenge Lily, to stake are claim on our mates. Now I wasn't so sure.

'I'd still challenge the bitch for the role of Luna even if she was here. She'll never leave here alive for once our mates get a hold of her, her ass will be dead' remarks Artemis, a smirk rising as she puffs out her chest as if boosting about our mates.

Shivering, I moved to push every single thought away, not wanting to deal with anything until I was finally home where I belonged, thankful that Gwen and Alarick had taken the pups today. Giving me the time I had needed to just get out of the house and to be with my mates.

So much for a Pack BBQ, looks like things just got a whole lot messier, I muse, Kai still leading me back towards the direction of home where once it comes into view do I move to let out a sigh. Home, sweet home.

Moving to entering, I slowly let out a sigh of relief, something about being in the presence of our home always calming me, even when I'm stressed like now only to jump when the sound of a phone rings. Glancing at Kai, he all but shrugs unsure of who would be calling at this time, do I move to answer it, grabbing the first phone I saw.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Hello Athena, miss me?" chuckles a voice, a voice that quickly sends a chill running down my spin in an instant.

"Lily?"
