Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Taken aback by Sharon’s harsh question, Stella said quietly. “We didn’t do anything”
Sharon was skeptical. She eyed Stella disparagingly as she said, “I held my tongue because Jessica was
there with me, but what if she had caught you in bed with Brian?
“Would you be able to take responsibility if she lost her baby due to shock?”
All Sharon cared about was the baby
When Stella made no reply, Sharon continued, “Jessica told me you were the reason Brian got injured. Is
that true?”
Stella’s chest tightened. She glanced in Jessica’s direction.

Stella had to admit that Jessica played her cards rather well. She was also a good actress, always putting
on an innocent, generous front that belied her petty schemes.
“Yes,” Stella said. She couldn’t deny that Brian had gotten hurt because of her.
Sharon bit out. “I’ll let you off the hook this time. But I hope you’ll remember that as things stand, Jessica
is with child and you are not.
“Finalize the divorce and stop with your petty schemes. You won’t win.”
Stella couldn’t help the sorrow that filled her. It seemed she was the villain in everyone’s story, always
scheming and up to no good.
She was starting to grow tired of the accusations
your
When Stella remained silent, Sharon said emphatically, “Remember what we agreed on. If you don’t
finalize y
divorce with Brian as soon as possible, I will have your father locked up behind bars forever!”
Upon hearing this, Stella froze.
“You can either keep the marriage or sacrifice it for your father’s freedom. The choice is yours,” Sharon
reiterated.
With that, she stepped away from Stella and went back to Jessica, her heels digging into the dirt. “Come
along, Jessica.”
“We’re leaving now, Stella: Bye!” Jessica waved goodbye to Stella as if they were friends. She helped
Sharon into the car, and they appeared to be conversing happily as the car pulled away.
Stella stood in the yard as her gaze darkened.
Sharon had told her that if she did not divorce Brian, Sumon would be locked up forever even if he served
his sentence.
It was a cruel bargain, practically a threat.
As things were. Stella had no choice but to do as Sharon asked. She finally understood what it meant to
be caught between a rock and a hard place.
A bitter smile curved her lips as she turned around. When she saw Bernard standing behind a tree and
smirking at her, she grew exasperated.
Why did she have to deal with these prick
“What are you doing here?” she asked Bernard sullenly, narrowing her eyes.
“I promised Brian I’d come and take care of him, so here I am.” Bernard closed the distance between
them with his arms crossed.
He eyed her with wicked amusement as he drawled, “What I didn’t expect was to overhear a little secret
Who could’ve thought you had an agreement with Mrs. Foley?
“I’m assuming even Brian’s mother doesn’t want you hanging around him??
Stella was in no mood to listen to his rambling. “Do me a favor and cut to the chase, will you? What do
you want?”
“If I heard correctly, you wanted to divorce Brian so you could get your father out of prison. Is that right?”
Bernard asked, staring down his nose at her.
Bernard had believed she was playing hard to get with Brian when all this time, she just wanted to get a
divorce.
Stella said impassively. That’s right. It’s a good thing, isn’t it? Once Brian and I finalize our divorce, he can
finally be with your beloved Jessica.”
Bernard’s expression grew stormy. He narrowed his eyes and asked, “What did you just say?”
“Am I wrong? You should have seen the way your eyes light up whenever Jessica is around,” Stella pointed out sardonically. “You’re in love with her.”
Bernard couldn’t look away from Stella after she guessed his biggest secret
Stella said, “Don’t look at me like that. You want them to get together, and I need to divorce Brian. That’s
what everybody wants, right?
“In that case, you should encourage me to get that divorce finalized. That way, the whole world can
prepare to celebrate at my expense.”
Bernard was not convinced with her bravado. “You’re going to give up your marriage that easily? After all the work you put in to secure it?”
Stella laughed, but it sounded more like a humorless bark. “Brian is not as important as my father.
“If you want Brian and Jessica to have their happily ever after, all you have to do is convince Brian to sign those divorce papers. Everything will work out after that ”
Bernard pondered this for a moment. Without another word, he left.
He did not go upstairs to look for Brian. Instead, he turned on his heels and got into his Pagani. In a flash,
he drove away.
Stella raised a brow. She wasn’t sure what to make of Bernard’s exit.
She sighed. What an odd man, indeed,
