Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Stella’s eyes widened in surprise. “Don’t you have a thing about germs? I made these rice balls without gloves!”
With that, she deliberately opened her hands to disgust him.
In a surprising move, Brain devoured the rice ball in a single bite, swallowing it without a flicker of emotion. “It’s okay,” he mumbled.
Stella was completely dumbfounded.
Noticing her silly expression, Brian chuckled and casually asked, “Is your hand feeling better? Can you make rice balls now?” +
“I just sprained it, not broke it. It’ll be fine after a day or two of rest.” Stella raised her hand, relieved to see the redness and swelling subsiding. She felt confident it would heal quickly.
Brian chewed another rice ball and took a sip of her beef stew.
“Hey! Don’t touch my dinner!” Stella exclaimed, pointing to the remaining stew. “There’s plenty left. Yvonne made a huge pot, so grab yourself a bowl!”
“Get it for me.”
“No way,” Stella refused.
“Then I’ll just drink yours.” Brian simply snatched her bowl away.
“Hey!” Stella scowled, resentment flashing in her eyes. Before she could snatch the bowl back, Brian tipped his head back in a single gulp, devouring the entire soup.
Stella was speechless. “Are you a bottomless pit?”
Brian couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of her anger.
“What’s so funny?” Stella grumbled as she stomped over to grab a new bowl for another helping of soup.
“Are you and Yoel serious?” Brian blurted it out.
Stella’s brow furrowed in confusion as she took a sip of soup. “What do you mean?” she asked.
“Are you really interested in him, or are you just fooling me?” His uncharacteristic patience hinted at a desire for a heart–to–heart conversation.
Stella paused to look at him, then answered very seriously, “It’s true. I really want to find someone new to
love.”
Brian’s face turned cold. “You don’t love me anymore?
“Why love someone who doesn’t love you back?” Stella asked quietly, taking a sip of soup. Her tone was calm, as if she no longer cared about anything at all.
Stella found him ridiculous. “The type who can’t stay committed,” she mused. “And what type does that make me?”
But Brian didn’t answer her anymore. With a sigh, he put down the bowl in his hand and left, his aural turning gloomy.
Stella thought he was being completely unreasonable.
He had said he would never love her, and now that she didn’t love him anymore, he was ironically blaming her for being fickle.
Hmph!
Why didn’t he blame himself for being a cheater? Why did he have to ruin a perfectly good marriage?
He was the one who destroyed the family, and he still had the audacity to blame her?
Frustration spiking, Stella chomped down on her rice ball before deliberately sending Brian a WhatsApp message.
“Mr. Foley, keep an eye on your stomach tonight.”
”
“I just remembered something. Last night, when I got home, I think I forgot to wash my hands before making those rice balls. So, if you’re feeling a bit queasy, it’s probably food poisoning.
Brian saw the message from upstairs and growled, “Stella!”
Stella heard him yelling from downstairs and couldn’t help but laugh.
Serves him right!
Despite washing her hands, Stella harbored a mischievous desire. It was payback time for his habit of belittling others and waltzing away. She craved the satisfaction of making him feel the same sting.
That night, Stella slept in the guest room again.
After taking a shower, she put on her pajamas and sat on the bed. Just as she was about to lie down, she heard a knock on the door.
“Who is it?” Stella asked cautiously..
“It’s me.”
Brian’s voice came from outside the door.
Stella got out of bed and went to open the door in her pajamas. “What’s the matter, Mr. Foley?”
