Chapter My Toyboy 10

Now, Filip was in a tough spot. Gathering all his determination, he threw back the shot of whisky in front of him. Before he could catch his breath, another glass was handed to him. One shot led to the next, and soon he was on his eighth. Feeling miserable from the cold he caught earlier, his headache had eased a bit, only to come roaring back now that he'd downed so much alcohol. He swayed unsteadily and felt like he might topple over any second.
Filip's alcohol tolerance was notoriously low, and Cynthia knew this better than anyone. Yet, she managed to hold her liquor surprisingly well.
"There are two glasses left. Let me handle it," she said confidently, stepping up to the table as Filip set his glass down. To everyone's surprise, she picked up a glass without hesitation and tossed it back. Then she grabbed the last one with ease. The crowd gasped. It wasn't weird for her to drink, but doing it with such grace was something special.
Her delicate fingers made the wine glass look like fine art, adding a touch of elegance to the moment. With her head tilted back, a glimpse of her smooth neck revealed itself, resembling a proud swan. She sipped slowly, relaxed and poised, making it seem like she was not facing Jonathan's taunts, but enjoying a private party of her own.
When Cynthia finally set down her glass, a round of applause erupted from the onlookers. Her expression stayed calm, but a slight blush colored her cheeks, making her seem even more vibrant.
"Now that the drinks are finished, Mr. Bennett, I trust you're feeling better?" she said, her tone layered with meaning.
Jonathan's face remained cold, maybe even colder than before. After a long silence, the corners of his mouth barely turned up. "Mrs, and Mr. Yates truly are the definition of a loving couple."
With that, he turned away, seemingly having lost interest completely. The other guests quickly rushed to refill their glasses, acting like the tense moment hadn't even happened.
Cynthia helped Filip back to their seats. He was feeling terrible, his stomach churning and threatening to spill. Struggling to get up, he said, "I need to use the restroom."
Cynthia sat lost in thought, her eyes drifting toward the main table. Suddenly, she felt a chill in her chest-a glass of red wine splashed all over her.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Shirley exclaimed, feigning innocence. "I was about to offer a toast and tripped over the carpet while passing by you!"
Cynthia looked up, anger flashing in her eyes.
Shirley had clearly done this on purpose. Just moments ago, Cynthia had stolen the spotlight at the main table, drawing compliments and attention. Now, Shirley wanted to humiliate her in her moment of triumph.
After the spill, Shirley turned to Selena. "What should I do, Mom? I just ruined Cynthia's dress."
Selena glanced at Cynthia without much concern. "It's just a dress, sweetheart. She has taken so much from you since childhood; she won't care about one piece of clothing." With that, she took Shirley by the arm and started to walk away.
As they left, Shirley turned her head, shooting Cynthia a smug look over her shoulder,
Cynthia ignored her and just stared at Selena's retreating back, feeling a stab of sadness. The betrayal from her parents hurt more than anything Filip or Lilian could do.
That night three years ago, when the results of the DNA test came back, Selena had slapped Cynthia hard-two stinging blows that echoed in her soul. "You're the child of that woman? How could I raise the daughter of my enemy all these years? Just go away! Go to hell!" Selena had shouted.

Even after all this time, thinking back on it still made Cynthia's chest ache.

The crowd turned to Cynthia, whispering among themselves. Her complicated family situation was quickly spreading among the ladies. The girls who had just added Cynthia on WhatsApp were nearby, chatting, and they walked over when they noticed what was happening.
"It's too much. That witch is doing this on purpose."
"Seriously, Cynthia, is she really your sister? How can she be so mean?"
"How can Mrs. Jones be so biased? Even if she's not your biological mother, she had been living together for twenty years. Doesn't she have any feelings?"
"It's okay. I'll just go to the bathroom to clean up," Cynthia said calmly.
"You can't just clean that off after spilling so much wine. Yvette, go get Cynthia a fresh outfit," one girl suggested,
Yvette nodded and said, "Cynthia, follow me upstairs. I'll find you something to change into."
Cynthia looked up to see Yvette, the red-haired girl who had been next to Susanna during the gift-giving. Yvette was stunning, and unlike the other girls in their fancy evening gowns, she wore a simple orange tank top and deep blue jeans- casual but stylish. "I'd appreciate it, Ms. Bennett," Cynthia said with a grateful smile. Somehow, she found herself liking this lady. Besides, her dress was soaked, and the wine stains really stood out on her white dress.
Yvette led Cynthia toward the side elevator, and they headed upstairs. As they walked down the long corridor, Cynthia caught a glimpse of the banquet hall below. She turned to look at the main table but noticed that Jonathan was no longer there.
Before long, Yvette opened a door. "Just wait here for a moment, I'll grab some clothes for you."
Cynthia nodded and stepped inside. It wasn't long before Yvette returned with a yellow tank top and a pair of deep blue wide-leg jeans.
"I just got back from Énmeria today, so this is all I have-sorry, no evening dress," Yvette said apologetically.
Cynthia smiled back. "This is perfect. Thank you, Ms. Bennett."
Yvette grinned. "I'll step out for now. Just come down when you're ready. Don't worry. This room is usually empty, and the door has a fingerprint lock, so no one else can get in." With that, she left and closed the door behind her. Cynthia pulled the curtains shut and headed over to the sofa to start getting undressed. Just as she was halfway through, she heard a noise at the door, and to her horror, it swung open.
Instinctively, she grabbed her half-removed dress to cover herself and turned quickly, her panicked eyes meeting the cold gaze of Jonathan standing in the doorway.
Surprise flickered across Jonathan's face before it turned deep. He strode into the room, facing Cynthia, and quickly shut the door behind him.
"Mr. Bennett?" Cynthia felt a wave of relief wash over her as she recognized him.
Jonathan stared at her face, his voice flat. "What are you doing here?"
Cynthia quickly explained, "My dress got stained with red wine. Ms. Bennett kindly offered me something new to wear."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow, his tone slightly incredulous. "Do you not realize this is my room?"
