Chapter One Night 149
Chapter 149
Audrey
A little while later, Edwin and I stepped out into the crisp autumn air, hand-in-hand. I was dressed in a warm sweater dress, tights, and boots-an outfit that Charles had somehow managed to pick out perfectly from my dorm room, along with a bag of other things to last me another night at Edwin’s apartment.
He had placed the bag outside Edwin’s apartment door without so much as knocking, and Edwin had remarked with a smirk how Charles was a smart man for not trying to intrude on a mans alone time with his new mate.
We had, after all, been tangled up together on the couch-we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other.
“I have to say, Charles has good taste,” I remarked, smoothing down the front of the dress.
Edwin chuckled, his thumb tracing circles on the back of my hand. “He’s had years of practice shopping for my sister whenever she visits. I’m glad he can put it to good use now.”
At the mention of his sister, I c**ed my head up at him. “When can I meet her?” I asked.
“Whenever you want. Although, I should warn you, she’s a bit of a nutjob.”
“More so than you?”
Edwin snorted at that.
It felt strange, walking through town like this together. This was the first time we had been out in public together, not hiding or pretending to be nothing more than student and professor.
Edwin must have sensed my unease through our bond because he squeezed my hand gently. “We can take it slow in public if you’re not comfortable yet,” he said softly.
I shook my head, looking up at him. “No, I want this. I want to touch you, to be with you. I’ve been waiting for this moment for months”
A smile spread across Edwin’s face, warming his usually stern features. He looped his arm around my waist, tugging me close to his side as we walked. “Then let’s show everyone,” he said, pressing his lips to mine and slipping his tongue into my mouth right in front of a group of women walking into a yoga studio, who stared slack-jawed at the sight.
We entered the restaurant he’d mentioned earlier, the bell above the door jingling as we stepped inside. The hostess’s eyes widened slightly when she saw us together, but she quickly composed herself and led us to a booth.
As we settled in, Edwin gestured to the menu. “Order whatever you want. As much as you want,”
I hadn’t realized how hungry 1 was until I started looking at the options. Not just hungry, but.. starving. It felt as if I hadn’t eaten in days. My stomach growled loudly as if on cue, and I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment.
Edwin laughed. “Don’t be shy. As a new werewolf, your body is still changing and metabolizing. You’ll need a lot more food than you’re used to-almost like a growing teen going through puberty.”
Encouraged, I ordered a stack of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a side of fruit. And then a side of toast for good measure, and a coffer. Edwin nodded approvingly and ordered a similar spread for himself.
As we waited for our food, I couldn’t help but ask, “How much more will my body change?”
Edwin took a sip of his coffee before answering. “Over the next few months, you might find yourself growing more muscles. becoming leaner, maybe even a little taller. You might also develop some special abilities, if you have any. You’ll also shift for the first time, when you’re ready”

“Do you have any abilities? I asked, curious. If my friends had any of their own, they
ey never mentioned them.

As far as I knew, it was a
fairly rar
rare trait in this day and age, to have abilities beyond the usual heightened senses and mate bonds. Maybe their-our-ancestors had had abilities, but most of them had been bred out over the generations, either through crossbreeding between werewolves and humans or modern luxuries simply making us fall out of practice.
A shadow seemed to pass over Edwin’s face at the mention. “I used to be a seasoned fighter,” he said quietly. “I had enhanced strength, even more than the usual werewolf strength. But I’ve fallen out of practice.”
“I’d like to see you fight sometime,” I said, intrigued.
Edwin paled slightly at the thought. “I prefer not to fight unless it’s necessary,” he said, his voice tight. I reached for our mate bond, but no emotions were relayed down that thread. He seemed unwilling to share.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t-
“Don’t be,” he said gently, squeezing my hand from across the table. “It’s just not something I like to think about. A part my past that I like to keep in the past.”

Soon, the food arrived. We ate in comfortable silence for a while, my body grateful for the nourishment. I could have eaten even more once all of my food was finished, but Edwin promised a large dinner, so I decided not to overdo it.
After lunch, we made our way to the campus library. The familiar scent of old books and dust greeted us as we entered the dimly lit building.
“Show me the book you found on the Silver Wolf,” Edwin said as we walked through the stacks.
I led him to the section where I had found it before, but when I looked, the book was nowhere to be found. “It’s gone,” I sail, puzzled. “Maybe it’s been checked out.”
Edwin frowned thoughtfully. “You said the writing only appeared when you touched it, right?” When I nodded, he continued, “That’s very telling. Magic books are extremely rare, and some say they’re never in one place for long; that they move around the world of their own accord, appearing and disappearing as they please.”
“So, you’re saying the book might not have been part of the library’s collection at all?” I asked, my mind reeling at the implications.
He nodded. “It’s possible it ‘found” you when it knew you needed to learn about the Silver Wolf,” Edwin said.
1 shook my head, amazed. “Sentient books… who would have thought?”
Edwin grinned, his eyes ***ing. “We do live in a wondrous warld, don’t we?” he asked through our bond, and I shivere at the velvety sound of his voice inside my skull.
Next, we made our way to the history and genealogy section on the third floor, pulling out books in search of any information on the Silver Star or Silver Wolf.
But as I tried to read, I found myself constantly distracted by Edwin’s scent-and everything else in the library. Everything seemed amplified now that I was a werewolf. Every sight, every sound, every smell. It was lizzying.
“Having trouble focusing?” Edwin asked.
I nodded and snapped the book I’d been reading shut, feeling a bit overwhelmed. “Everything is so… intense. I think I just heard someone sniffle from the bottom floor.”
Edwin chuckled. “I’ll need to teach you how to handle those amplified senses. But first…” His voice trailed off as he closed his eyes, a look of concentration on his face.
Suddenly, I felt a warm, pleasurable sensation coursing through my body. It was as if invisible hands were caressing me,

fingers stroking down my spine. I felt a sudden aching sensation in my low belly, and then a throb-
“What… what are you doing?” I gasped, gripping the edge of the nearby table.

Edwin’s eyes opened, and there was a mischievous glint in them-a tiny flicker of yellow. “I’m showing you how I can m**y stroke our mate bond to make you feel good,” he answered silently, raising a finger to his lips in warning.
Suddenly, the sensation intensified, and I had to bite my lip to keep from moaning out loud. I practically doubled over the table, panting, legs trembling. He was a good few feet from me, but… It felt like he was inside of me. With each inhale, it felt as if there was another thrust, sending my arms quivering.
Then, he stood up, moving closer to me until I was backed up against the bookshelves.
His fingers trailed in a featherlight caress down my arm as he continued to work the mate bond, sending waves of pleasure through me. I could feel my body responding, my heart racing and my breath coming in short gasps.
“Edwin,” I whispered, my voice shaky. “We’re in public…”
“Then you’ll have to be quiet,” he murmured through the Mindlink, his lips brushing against my ear.
His fingers slipped under the hem of my dress, tracing patterns on my thigh. Combined with the me**l stimulation through our bond, it was almost too much to bear.
1 buried my face in Edwin’s shoulder, m**ng my whimpers as he pushed me closer and closer to the edge. My legs trembled, and I was grateful for the support of the bookshelf behind me.
Just as I thought I couldn’t take anymore, Edwin intensified his ministrations both physically and m***ly. He tugged my tights down just enough to slip his hand inside, rubbing slow circles over the soft cotton of my panties.
And then, just as he sent one final, shuddering thrust into the bond, two thick fingers slipped into me.
I felt myself tipping over the edge, waves of pleasure crashing over me. I had to clamp my hand over my mouth to keep from howling. And all the while, Edwin just grinned, stroking the bond like one would stroke the head of a cat.
As I came down from my high, I leaned heavily against Edwin, my breath coming in short pants. He held me close, pressing soft kisses to my temple
When I finally caught my breath, I looked un
at him. “That was… intense.”
Edwin smiled, looking quite pleased with himself, “Just wait until we’re alone,” he promised, his voice low and husky.
As I straightened up, smoothing down my dress, something caught my eye. A book was sticking out from the shelf ab***o***us,
its spine a glimmering gold that seemed to catch the light.
My eyes widened, and I pointed up at it. “Look!”
