Once Rejected Now Desired By The Lycan King Chapter 3
3. Blamed
BETH
The distinct sounds of beeps made me crack my eyelids, and light rushed into my eyes instantly.
‘Where was I?’ — I asked myself, my mind trying to recall where I was before any of this.
After careful concentration, my eyes grew wide with the realization that two things had occurred.
One; I had found my mate, I wasn’t sure about it. Who was he? I couldn’t be wrong. My wolf has called him my mate.
How was it possible that I got another mate? Darren had just jilted me and I got another mate? Where is he? How did I come here?
Secondly, I had been taken by people I could only believe were rogues and lost consciousness.
But the first of the two things I recalled felt more like a dream than reality and at the thought of it, a pain resurfaced in my chest and I could see a monitor screen beep red as lines being drawn up on its monitor went up alongside the rise of pain in my chest.
Everything flooded back into my head, and tears started to pool in my eyes.
It didn’t make it less painful when I remembered that it was my day, but it had been snatched from me by the same man who had promised me happiness.
My breath started to hitch in my throat, and sobs racked my small frame, making me realize that my leg had been placed in a cast and then hanged.
It made more tears blur my vision until I caught a somewhat familiar scent. Why did he leave me? I wanted to know. Why did he suddenly change towards me?
I blinked my eyes and standing in front of me was Cara. She had a smirk on her face.
“I can see you’re in a bit of a… Bind,” she suddenly said and gave herself access to my room.
Walking in and eyeing everything placed for my care as though she planned to disconnect me from them.
I was on guard, but at the same time, I didn’t know what to say, so I kept mute.
“How are you doing, Beth?” She asked, her voice curious.
” I am—”
“Yeah, save it.” She suddenly cut me off and waved her hand in my face.
I was stunned beyond words at her bitchiness. It wasn’t new because that’s how she has always been but why did she ask then?
“And to think you ended up at a hospital that is too high for your… Profile,” she said the last words, meaning it in every intuitive way possible.
“I would love to know how you wound up here but Goddess knows that you have been obsessed from day one, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up here because you knew that I was here, and if I was here then so would Darren.” she spat and I blinked twice as much.
‘Was she serious?’ — I asked myself.
“You are so thirsty! You want him so bad that you would crack open your leg to be where he is. You’re pathetic and frankly, irritating. How can you chase after something that isn’t yours? How can you even love yourself, pathetic and begging for his attention as you own it? ” she said and I could see her face grow disgusted with each second she spent with me.
“And you even thought he would marry you,” she remarked, a small laugh escaped her lips.
“You are pathetic and then you are delusional. A perfect combo for a low life that had dreams that could only choke her at the end.” She said spitefully and I struggled to blink back the tears that had formed in my eyes.
“He couldn’t have married you anyway, no matter how you thought you had him wrapped in your finger. He has been mine from the onset and if you had good eyesight, you would have been able to tell another reason why he won’t marry you,” she said proudly, her fingers circling her belly and my eyes widening.
‘No. It couldn’t be’ — I said to myself as the pain started to consume me.
“What better way to show that I loved him and he loved me back than to carry on his name, without tainting it with low lifeblood.” she mocked and this time, I couldn’t stop the tears from leaking from my eyes.
“No. No! Darren would never betray me like that. He loves me,” I said and I watched Cara’s face reduce to a scorn.
“He loves you?” She asked me and I nodded my head, my hair spilling across my shoulders.
She walked swiftly to my side, grabbed my hair along with my skull, and brought my face to hers in an instant.
“You are an unwanted girl. An orphan with no real family heritage. You are a low life who is stuck on some fucking daydream, wake up and smell the fucking trash! Darren is mine and has always been mine. If you keep on deceiving yourself that he somehow loves you then I would make sure that would be the last thought you have before you don’t have any at all!” She spat in my face but I didn’t flinch as she expected, her face shook with anger and I stared into her eyes deeply.
“Darren! is min—”
I didn’t finish my sentence when Cara pushed my head out of her hands and stood away from me in an instant and before I could take in what was going on, she fell to the ground and began to sob with her hands clouding her face.
‘Wait. What? ‘ — I asked myself but my eyes wandered to the door that had opened abruptly.
Darren stood with all of his towering beauty and a smile crossed my lips.
Despite what had happened, I was still glad that I had Darren here to myself.
My smile deteriorated to sadness when Darren looked at me and a worried expression towered over him as he ran towards Cara, helping her stand immediately and placing his hands on her shoulder, encasing her with a hug.
Her tears were so loud and so ugly, a scorn settled on my face.
“Are you okay?” He asked softly and for a minute I thought it was me, but when I turned to answer, it was Cara and she was wiping thick tears from her eyes
My brain went numb at how fast her acting skills were.
“What happened?” He suddenly asked, ignoring that the woman whom he was supposed to be married to was in a hospital bed with her leg in a heavy cast and machines connected to Me.
“She.. she.. she hit me!” Cara suddenly exclaimed and I had to look around the room if I knew who this assailant was.
“Beth pulled my hair and wanted to push me simply because I shared our joy. She’s jealous and she promised to make me lose the baby if I didn’t leave you.” Cara said and my mouth hung open.
I looked at Darren’s face, about to defend myself when I shrunk.
His eyes blazed gold, and that was never a good sign.
