Once Rejected My Alpha Stepbrother Wants Me Back Chapter 76
Chapter 76
Ashton’s POV
I
A little before daylight, I rush into the woods to run. It’s relieving and energizing. I return to the pack house when the sun has set firmly in the sky,
Greetings from left and right fill my ears, all coming from my pack members. The kids rush to my side, hugging my legs and greeting me.
My heart bloats at their actions. I love feeling them around me but knowing I can’t have a pub except with my fated mate makes my heart bleed.
After I sent the kids away, I continued down the path to the pack house. As Farrive, panting and dripping with sweat, I see the new recruits training.
Dane had just returned from the camp last night and he was training with them.
That’s good. I love how Dane is always focused regardless of how he loves playing with women.
Grunts fill the air as the recruits wrestle with their claws and fangs.
“Ahh…” One of the boys grunts as his partner in training bites into his shoulder.
The pain sure won’t take long to heal because of his lycan abilities.
I stand by the sideline, watching them with my arms crossed.
“Go harder boys!” Dane chirps, clapping his hands and encouraging them.
A smile’s on my face when his eyes land on mine. Gently, I wave at him.
Dane instantly struts over, I can see the hard heaving of his chest.
“Came looking for you earlier, alpha. Where went you?” Dane asks stopping by my side.
The stern look on his face makes him appear like my father reprimanding me for wandering off
“What?” He chuckles. “Don’t give me that look. I’m just being a caring zeta” He states with a light chuckle.
“Caring zeta, I doubt. It’s either you want to tell me about your latest conquest.” I prattle, walking into the house. Dane falls into step beside me, rambling
“But I had none last night, believe me.”
The distant grunts of the training recruits penetrate into the house. Every servant that passes by bows in greeting as Dane and I stand off by the window.
“Any news yet?” I ask.
He already knows what I’m referring to so he shrugs.
“The is still hiding but I’m determined to catch him in his game,” Dane
says
I always think about the last attack op Josie’s life. The bullet has the military insignia.
I want to know who that traitor is and why he wants Josie dead.
“That’s strange. But Dane, I want you to nose your way
y around until
il you catch that mother ..” I grit out.
Dane nods as he
taps me on my shoulder.
“You have my word.” He assures me. Silence. Then. “That’s because of her right?” He asks.
I spare him a look. “Yeah. Someone wants Josie dead….”
“You love her now?” He cuts me off sharply.
“Dane..“I warn but he doesn’t seem to get it.
“I don’t know what changed but the girl has always been below your standard. Remember she’s just an ordinary wolf. Can never make a good Luna…”
That last state surges my anger. Surprisingly, I tuck my hand on Dane’s neck and pin him over the window bay.
He finds it difficult to breathe but my lycan is too far gone to realize what he’s doing.
Dane struggles against my tight fist but I don’t relent
Teeth gritted. I growl out. “You know nothing, Dane…
“Ashton….pull yourself together.” He whispers hoarsely,
My eyes flash, my lycan is already beneath my skin, wanting out.
“Let me speak…!” I huff. “Josie’s my mate. My Luna. Nothing can change that. She’s mine!”
Quickly, Dane nods. Pulling myself together, I tug away from him.
We both pant for breath and stare hard at each other.
Dane doesn’t know I’ve wanted Josie for years. From the first time I set my eyes on her.
That had been my secret.
“Forgive me if I said something that pisses you off, man.” He rambles out.
I just glance at him wordlessly..
“I’ll make sure I find the traitor in the unit.
I nod at him, now regretting how rashly I acted. The both of us were just about getting back to a respective location when Ben, my beta struts toward us.
“Alpha. Greetings.”
“Ben. Good to see you again…
Ben had traveled briefly for business purposes but now he’s back to handle his duties.
“Any news about the meeting I requested with the Double Moon beta?” I ask.
It’s been gnawing at me to meet the beta and strike a deal with him.
I’m just hoping it works out.
“None yet, alpha. However, the gamma promised to inform me once the beta fixes a date to meet with you.”
That beta must be full of himself/How dare he always prolong this meeting shit?
“Alright,” I remark. “Anyways/I need you to schedule a meeting with Mr. Thompson of Almac this afternoon. I need to
discuss something with him in detail.” I tell Ben before walking off.
Before I finished preparing to head to the hospital, I received I call from my assistant in the Pharmaceutical about the arrival of clients from Russia.
Instantly, I dash out, heading over to my pharmaceutical.
The moment I arrive and greet the clients who smell of money, I realize they don’t speak English at all.
Worst yet, they’re big men that want to strike a huge deal.
Too bad they don’t speak English neither do they hear.
And I lost them within a twinkle of an eye.
That’s because she isn’t here with me.
If Josie had been here…I wouldn’t have lost the deal..
In my state of anger, I head over to Almac.
Josie’s POV.
I breathe out through my lips as I stand in front of the giant gate where the job interview Lilly told me about is,
“I can do this..” I tell myself but the confidence to go in and take the interview bereft me.
After a while, I head close to the gate to ring the bell. But I get these strong eerie vibes.
The air blowing over me sprouts chills on my body.
What’s happening? I think to myself as the feeling of dread wracks my body.
I take a moment to look into the street of this community but I realize it’s empty.
From the look of it…I hear no sound from inside the house.
Should I knock on the door!
My wolf stays on alert, watching with narrowed eyes
‘Something feels off here… she says inside me. I cringe at her words, stepping back.
“Should we go?” I ask her, shaking inside and out.
‘I think so. That house feels strange. Why would Lilly send us here?‘ She complains.
I don’t blame Lilly because she might not have known. She was only helping me out.
‘I doubt she’s aware the place is weird. I tell my wolf.
She whines and thrashes a bit before she whispers out.
‘No, we should go…”
At that word, I bring my hand down from wanting to press the bell.
Swiftly, I turn back, and there…
A huge man with shaggy hair and a beards trimmed to a fine line stands before me, looking dangerously at me.
Panic shoots through me and the urge to run away fills me.
The bulky man walks way too close now, watching intently at me.
The instant he stops before me he growls….
“To what do I owe this pleasure?” he asks.
Frantically. I dart my eyes around him.
That’s where I see his name on the military outfit he’s wearing, Tanner.
“I…I..” I stutter, breaking down….
“Who sent you…?” He asks.
“Li.” Before I can finish mentioning the name Lilly, a call comes on my phone. “Excuse…” I whisper, using it as an excuse to stay far away from the man…
At a safe distance. I look at my phone and I see the number I least expect calling me.
Mr. Thompson?
Why is he calling me?
Before I can ponder on anything. I feel a presence behind it.
It’s dark.
Threatening
Screams of danger.
Without a glance backward, I kick off down the road.
As I thought, the bulky man is racing after me… s
