Chapter 40 Cutie Patootie 

The sudden movement made both Sheldon and Natalie jump. 

They looked toward the door, only to see a few people rush into the ward. 

Some of them had microphones in their hands. Some others had video cameras. on their shoulders. 

Natalie realized who they were. They were reporters! 

She walked up to them immediately and indignantly questioned them, “Who gave you all permission to come in? Even as reporters, you’d still need to respect other people’s privacy.” 

But, this group of reporters was overbearing. They completely ignored her words. 

A number of microphones were presented in front of her. “You are Ms. Shepherd, right?” 

“Aren’t you Mr. Chase’s wife? Why are you here looking after another man?” 

“What’s your relationship with this man?” 

“Rumors have it that you and Mr. Chase are having problems in your marriage. Is that true?” 

The reporters spouted a slew of questions at her. She was clearly almost at her tipping point. 

Sheldon didn’t like the sight of Natalie being pressured by those people. He got out of his bed and shouted, “Stop asking! Why does she need to answer you about her private matters?” 

His move to defend Natalie at that moment may have spurred the group of 

reporters on. 

They began their series of questions again. 

“The both of you interact closely with one another. You don’t look like regular friends! So… is it a special relationship?” 

“Ms. Shepherd, are you cheating on Mr. Chase?” 

“Stop asking questions!” Natalie’s patience ran out. She tried to chase the group of reporters out. “Get out! Everyone, out! Do you hear me?” 

Even if she and Henry were already preparing for their divorce, she still didn’t wish to talk about these things in front of the cameras.

Even if they had gotten divorced, she still wanted to save them both some embarrassment. 

It was ten years of their relationship. She didn’t want to make things so ugly at the end. 

At that sight, Sheldon lifted his left hand right away and knocked one of the cameras to the ground.

Sheldon’s expression was cold and dark. He said in a hostile voice, “If anyone asks another question, I will make them suffer the consequences!” 

The Cook family’s powerful background aside, he still had the financial capability and power even if he was on his own. 

If there really were anyone who crossed his boundaries, he would definitely not go soft on them! 

In actual fact, the reporters didn’t know who Sheldon was. However, his stature still made them tremble in their boots. 

Furthermore, anyone who would dare to go up against Henry for his woman was definitely no small fry. 

As much as they wanted to get the news story, they didn’t want to get into trouble 

because of it. 

So, the group of reporters ended up leaving obediently. 

After they took their leave, Natalie let out a tired sigh. “I’m sorry for letting you encounter such a thing because of me.” 

Sheldon was trying hard to control the expression in his eyes. He didn’t want hist heartache to be seen through his gaze. 

“Those people have left, so don’t think about it anymore. Whenever you’re unhappy, you should do things that can make you happier. Alright?” 

Natalie kept her gaze down. After keeping quiet for a few seconds, she suddenly spoke up in a tone of relief, as if a burden had been lifted off her shoulders. 

“Shitty matters like this aren’t worth my emotions. 

“Oh, right! You should hurry back up on the bed!” Natalie just noticed that Sheldon was out of his bed. 

When Sheldon heard that, he burst out in laughter. “It’s my arm that was injured.

Natalie was taken aback for a moment. Their eyes met, and she smiled. “Look, I’ve really got a pregnancy brain.” Natalie twitched the corner of her lips. helplessly. 

“That’s alright. You’re quite the cutie patootie when you’re being silly.” Sheldon glanced at her with a soft gaze. 

This silly woman. The only thing was that she seemed to truly be unable to recognize who he was. 

But he couldn’t blame her. So many years had passed. Perhaps, she had already completely wiped that memory from a long time ago. 

Night soon befell this city. The city’s night sky was exceptionally dark. There were. no stars to be seen. 

Sheldon had gone to bed and fallen asleep early on. 

There were two beds in this hospital ward. Natalie slept on the other bed. 

She spent the entire night working on her design draft. She worked on it until she started to doze off and ended up nodding off at the table. 

Ever since she became pregnant, she indeed felt sleepy more frequently. This wasn’t her first time falling asleep while working on something. 

But, what she wasn’t aware of was that Sheldon opened his eyes after she dozed 

off. 

In fact, he hadn’t fallen asleep at all. He simply didn’t want to get in the way of her drawing, so he pretended to go to bed. 

Silently, he climbed out of bed, wanting to put her overbed table away. Instead, her half–completed design draft caught his attention. 

Her drawing seemed to be of a small estate. 

She had told him about her dream a very long time ago. “When I grow up, I want to design houses of my own! All sorts of houses!” 

Back then, her eyes twinkled when she talked about her dream. 

Eventually, by a striking coincidence, he ended up trying to become fond of architectural design. 

His growth in this field ended up being beyond his expectations. 

However, he was very pleased. He was pleased that she was still persistent in

He put the things on her table away. Then, he held her gently by the shoulders and lay her down on the bed. 

He didn’t get back into bed immediately. Rather, he stood by the side of her bed and stared at her face for a long time.

He thought to himself that if she was truly tired out by her marriage, she should give herself some good rest. 

Henry wasn’t up to her level. He didn’t deserve her. 

The next day, the news about Natalie looking after an unknown man spread. It became a topic of discussion among many. 

Henry was swimming at the aquatics center at the time. He finally got out of the pool after a few laps. 

Wade, who was waiting by the side, handed a bath towel to him immediately. 

Henry reached out to grab the towel. He dried his hair down as he walked toward the deck chair at the side. 

Wade started reluctantly, “Mr. Chase…” 

Henry stopped in his tracks. He asked with a hint of impatience, “Is it that woman, Natalie? What trouble did she cause now?” 

There had been too much news regarding Natalie as of late! 

So, naturally, she was the first person that came to mind. 

Wade paused for a moment. “Your father called,” he answered. 

His father? Cliff Chase? 

If Wade hadn’t mentioned it, he would have almost forgotten that he still had a father. 

Henry looked away emotionlessly. “There’s no need to bother about him.” 

“But, he has called you a few times… Maybe there’s something important?” Wade responded carefully. 

Recently, Henry had been more irritable than before. Needless to say, he had to be

Henry remained nonchalant. “Maybe later.” 

Just as he finished speaking, his cell phone rang again. 

As he was putting on his robe, he looked down to take a peek at the caller ID. He hadn’t saved Cliff’s contact as “Dad” or any terminology of the sort. 

Instead, it was a distant two words “Cliff Chase“. 

His phone continued to ring, but he showed no intention of picking it up. Wade didn’t dare to say much more. So, he just stood quietly at the side.
