Chapter 15
Chapter 15 Teach Him a Lesson
But Luca didn’t dare to approach Neil without his mom’s approval.
Aneira stroked her son’s hair. “Go over and have a bite.”
After Luca received his mom’s permission, he climbed down from the bench. His thin legs. swayed as he ran to the wooden table.
He picked up the other hamburger on the table and took big mouthfuls.
No matter how sensible he was, he was barely a three–year–old child.
The fragrance of the hamburger made him forget how unfamiliar he felt toward his dad as he took big bites of this unusual delicacy!
Aneira’s heart softened slightly when she saw her children eating so happily.
She used to live in the city in good conditions. She was now living a miserable and pathetic life after the two children were born!
It was unprecedented that Neil thought of buying food for the children after the competition!
Neil saw Aneira’s cold expression relax slightly and took out his purchases from the bags individually.
“Aneira, I bought these clothes for you. This is a dress to be worn now. There’s also this woolen sweater and coat… See if it fits! If not, I’ll exchange it.”
Neil happily put the clothes on the bed one by one.
Astonishment flickered across Aneira’s eyes when she saw the colorful and beautiful clothes.
These clothes were this year’s popular and fashionable styles. By looking at the quality, Aneira knew they were expensive.
Was he actually willing to spend money to buy me new clothes?
“Go try
them on!” Neil urged.
The light in Aneira’s eyes dulled, and she shook her head. “I’m teaching the kids how to read. Ms. Lisa told me she could help next year, so she told me to send Luca and Yivi to preschool. It would be good to learn before that.”
Neil knew the Montessori and Waldorf programs had only become more mainstream in the
2000s.
The present popular education style wasn’t as holistic. Luca and Yivi couldn’t be at a disadvantage
before school had even started.
He didn’t say anything else. He put down the clothes and said, “I’m going to buy groceries and cook.” He left after that.
Neil’s physical fitness became a lot better after being reborn.
On top of his recent working out.
He didn’t feel tired even though he had been on the move all day.
He quickly walked to the grocery store.
Neil bought some ham, salmon, and vegetables.
When the fishmonger was gutting the fish, he heard people at the side discussing.
“Isn’t this Neil? He looks to be in better spirits after he won, and he’s spending extravagantly. He bought so much delicious food.”
“What’s the point? Do you know that his wife works part–time and caught the eye of a wealthy businessman? I think she’s going to dump Neil soon!”
“Isn’t the rich businessman almost fifty? His wife is just in her twenties, isn’t she?”
“Anything is possible with money. How many women these days can resist the temptation of money…”
Neil recalled.
Aneira was doing part–time cleaning work. Once, she worked temporarily at a shop.
She caught the eye of the boss from the nearby Aristo Supermarket.
The boss took advantage of her and touched her hand. He even announced that he wanted to provide for her.
Aneira had struggled forcefully and escaped home.
When she told Neil about it, he hit her instead.
After that, Aneira became more uncommunicative.
Neil took the salmon and swayed on the street, lost in thought.
He suddenly found himself at the entrance of Aristo Supermarket.
Mr. Thornsby, who had fat cheeks and a round belly, was sizing up a female shop assistant with narrowed eyes.
This slippery pervert. I should really teach him a lesson!
A series of noises came from across the street.
Neil turned to look.
It turned out that the shop across from the supermarket was playing music.
It was also a supermarket and was of a similar scale to Mr. Thornsby’s Aristo Supermarket.
Its renovations were complete, and a banner said it would open on July sixteenth.
An opening ceremony would be held at its entrance.
Neil suddenly had an idea.
He quickly walked to the other side.
When Neil returned, he saw that Mr. Thornsby was ready to go home.
Neil carefully followed behind Mr. Thornsby.
He realized Mr. Thornsby had to go through a dark, narrow alley on the way home.
Neil thought of the date.
He recalled something that had happened in his past life.
If the timing was right, he should be able to stop it from happening!
He figured out Mr. Thornsby’s route and went home quietly.
Neil silently cooked a delicious meal and placed it on the dining table.
The two children were full but couldn’t resist the temptation of delectable food. They ran to the table again.
Neil hugged his daughter and made sure the salmon had no bones before he fed it to her.
Aneira ate quietly.
The two adults didn’t speak much.
After eating, Neil washed the dishes before entering the utility room.
He cleaned and organized the utility room in two hours.
Unused items were piled on the stairs.
“Aneira, I’ll contact someone to collect the recyclables tomorrow and sell these. In the future, I’ll write and rest in this small room. You and the kids can sleep in the big room.”
He took out ten thousand dollars and gave it to Aneira.
“This is the prize money. You can use it for family expenses. Send some to Mom. When I have the time, I’ll rent a place nearby, and Mom can live there.”
“I’ll use the remaining money to pay the gambling debt. Those from the underground casino won’t disturb you three when they see the money. Don’t worry…”
After that, Neil moved a shabby desk inside the room.
The floor was clean.
He hadn’t touched the couch. He took the quilt and made his bed on the floor.
Neil slept peacefully that night!
Aneira looked at the thick stack of money in her hand.
She didn’t know what to feel.
After a while, she kept the money and the clothes he had bought in the wardrobe.
She didn’t say anything.
Three days after the competition, the state capital’s Love for Armoa competition was broadcasted on television.
All the television stations in the state and city broadcasted the contest.
Not many county towns could receive the National Dracorea Channel, so regional channels. broadcasted it.
A few regional channels broadcasted the competition simultaneously, making it seem like Neil was everywhere on television.
Neil’s reputation in the county town went up at once.
Everyone in Cloubury changed their minds about him when he performed ‘The Pearl from the
East‘ alone on stage.
When the vice–governor awarded Neil with a trophy and certificate, Neil also appeared in the
newspapers.
Everyone in Cloubury exclaimed one after another that Neil was talented!
He was going to be a big star!
Even when Ancira left the house, the neighbors took the initiative to greet her. They usually avoided her because they feared she would ask to borrow money from them.
“Are you going to buy groceries, Aneira? Your husband is amazing. He won first place in the state.”
“What a big deal. Don’t forget your neighbors when you become the wife of a big star in the future.”
Aneira forced out a smile before walking away with her head down.
Neil had hurt her too much.
She had inexplicable feelings when faced with Neil’s sudden popularity in the county town.
Neil didn’t force her either.
During the day, he wrote at home and did housework. At night, he slept on the floor.
Occasionally, he would hang around on the streets and scout out information.
The county town stations weren’t hiring at the moment. This was a slight blow to Neil.
No one in the music industry had contacted him yet after ‘The Pearl from the East‘ was broadcasted on television.
If they were in a time with advanced Internet, he would have probably gone viral online and gained countless fans.
But this was 1997!
Neil could only rush his drafts every day and patiently prepare the next step of his plan.
July sixteenth.
The new supermarket on the street opened.
