“Mom, you stink!” 

Alexis rolled her eyes at Nathan’s exclamation. She pulled the child over and tossed him on the sofa. She then urged Samantha to go and shower. Samantha had obviously been hurt by her son’s comment. She showered whilst feeling rather aggrieved. Fatigue then washed over her. Alexis bundled Nathan in Samantha’s blankets and turned the lights off. 

“Sleep early, good night. I’ll take your son to school tomorrow.” 

Alexis quickly closed the door. 

In the dark, both mother and son’s mouths twitched. 

“Mom, can you not let the strange lady take me to school?” Nathan finally said in a small voice. 

Samantha closed her eyes and answered, “Why?” 

“The strange lady will throw me away, and if she drives, there’ll be a car accident,” Nathan spoke as he hunched his shoulders 

Let’s… 

Let’s sleep.” 

“Where’s Uncle Francis?” 

Nathan’s sudden question made Samantha unable to answer him. 

They had moved so frequently over the last few years. Nathan was familiar with 

getting accustomed to new homes. But for all that time, Francis had rarely left them unless he was working. 

“Uncle Francis is very busy.” 

Samantha conjured a reason. 

In some ways, it was better for Nathan to rely on Francis than to be fixated on his 

biological father.

“Then isn’t Uncle Francis my dad? Why did we have to move to a home where 

Uncle Francis isn’t here?” 

Nathan nuzzled into Samantha’s chest in the dark. His chubby hands pinched 

Samantha’s face. 

“We’ll still see Uncle Francis in the future. Can we go to sleep for today? I’m very 

tired.” 

Samantha took her son’s hand and rubbed her face against it, as though she were 

asking for mercy. 

Nathan finally gave up on asking. He fell asleep with his arms around Samantha. 

Samantha was sober and wide awake. She smiled resignedly as she patted Nathan 

gently on the back. 

She thought about her goal to ruin the reputation of Nathan’s biological father. 

Samantha took Kendrick for a fickle man. He was still able to seduce her despite 

knowing that Samantha had died in childbirth. 

She thought that showed that he didn’t care at all about her and her son. 

She laughed self–deprecatingly. She had caused Nathan to be fatherless. Still, it 

would be better than letting Nathan learn that he had such a cold–blooded father. 

This was a secret that she must guard well from others. 

After a sleepless night, Samantha got up the next morning to make breakfast. There 

were dark circles around her eyes. 

Samantha joined Alexis to drop Nathan off at kindergarten before she turned and 

went home. 

“Aren’t you going to work today?” 

Alexis looked curiously at Samantha, who was in the driver’s seat. 

“I took a leave of absence.” 

“What happened last night?” 

Samantha paused for a long time before telling Alexis everything that transpired the night before. Alexis almost hit the roof of the car. 

“Kendrick is not a good person at all! Don’t go near him in the future!” Alexis said furiously. 

Samantha gripped the steering wheel tightly and shook her head. 

“It’s impossible. I must take Duncan Group back from him.” 

“You’re already a renowned designer, and in the future you’ll definitely-” 

“He is the one who made Sophia into the designer she is now. I became a designer solely to get my revenge on him.” 

Alexis‘ eyes dimmed after she was interrupted by Samantha. 

Samantha just wanted her own life back. 

“We still haven’t found a medical team. Our family doesn’t know many people 

overseas. 

Alexis suddenly changed the subject. 

“Sorry for the trouble. I’ll search for it too. How’s Dad?” 

Samantha’s emotions had calmed down. 

“He’s been recovering well recently. They say that he just needs a bit of stimulation. They are still advising us to find a professional team from abroad.” 

Samantha sighed, feeling bitter.. 

When they got home, Samantha went to the kitchen. She made her mother’s favorite 

food and handed it to Alexis. 

“My mother enjoys this. Please let her eat it, and say that it was made at home by 

Sara.” 

Alexis looked at Samantha and hesitated. 

She really wanted to make Samantha stop what she was doing and just return to be

with Evelyn. 

“I know what you’re going to say. I’ll tell her when the time comes.” 

Samantha patted Alexis‘ shoulder, 

She watched Alexis finally leave before going back to bed. She tried in vain to 

recover the sleep she’d lost last night. 

She tossed and turned for a couple of hours before finally falling asleep. When she 

woke up, it was already time to eat. 

Alexis had ordered some takeout, and she kept piling a grimacing Nathan with vegetables. Samantha felt somewhat revived and joined them for the meal. She had completely put the intimate incident with Kendrick last night out of her mind. 

Kendrick did not tell Samantha to return to work for an entire week. 

One went to work diligently and occasionally went for a meal to socialize. 

The other was at home working on her relationship with her son while waiting for 

Kendrick’s invitation. 

Kendrick finally made a simple call to Samantha on the night before the SL Series. 

exhibition. 

“The exhibition venue, 8:00 pm.” 

Samantha set her alarm. She looked forward to the shenanigans that Conrad would 

get up to tomorrow through Linda.
