No Escape From the Ex-husband by Summer Winters

Chapter 73

Chapter 0073

Kendrick was oblivious to Samantha’s thoughts. He was filled only with curiosity about Sophia.

The prolonged gathering was filled with a myriad of topics. Samantha was unlike other formulaic secretaries. She seamlessly integrated her international life experiences and standard pronunciation into various circles. She did so however brief the encounter was.

Upon returning to the hotel, Samantha finally got to take a longer rest.

After freshening up, Samantha wore a robe loosely and sat on the edge of the bed. After considering the time difference, she decided to give Francis a call.

“Haven’t gone to bed?”

“Nope. I’ve just put your son to sleep,” Francis spoke very softly.

“I want to see Nate…”

Samantha adjusted her robe, crawled under the covers, and snuggled in.

After ending the call, Francis quickly sent several pictures of Nathan sleeping.

Accompanying the images was his signature victory sign. Glancing at the phone for

a while, Samantha began to feel drowsy. She soon drifted off to sleep.

The busy schedule was indeed delayed due to various reasons. On the night of the

third day, Samantha found herself still reviewing the itinerary on the sofa. Kendrick

immediately discarded his suit jacket and snatched the itinerary from her hands. He tossed it into the trash bin, pulling her up in the process.

“There’s nothing that a drink can’t solve.”

Samantha was speechless. She had no choice but to change her clothes and head

out with Kendrick to discuss business.

They were to discuss the business partner, a female CEO with blond short hair. She

had a commanding presence. However, everyone became more relaxed as soon as

they sat at the table.

Samantha was not the only secretary Kendrick had brought with him. He also had brought along two assistants.

Samantha sat quietly beside him. She watched the two assistants downing one drink after another. She, on the other hand, felt like a storm was brewing in her

stomach.

“Ms. Meadows, I really like your designs.”

Marilyn smiled, shifting the conversation to Samantha.

“I didn’t think you’d know me! Maybe I should be proud.”

Samantha took a sip of her drink, her cheeks slightly flushed.

“Of course, you should be proud!” Marilyn’s voice raised slightly.

“My friends always like to buy clothes designed by you to please their girlfriends. It turns out, they almost always succeed in satisfying them!”

“Ah, then I can rest easy. At least my designs are somewhat useful.”

Samantha expressed a relieved look, prompting Marilyn to burst into laughter.

“Marilyn, with Ms. Meadows here, I believe our collaboration this time will be very

successful.”

“Of course, pleasure working with you, Mr. Ford.”

The two continued their polite exchange. Samantha stood beside them, feeling a bit

helpless.

Marilyn wasn’t really impressed with Samantha’s talent. She had just wanted to

convey through this interaction with Sophia that she knew her enemy well. She also

seemed to assert that this collaboration would happen for sure.

“Still, my friend really likes your designs. There’s a particular piece of clothing that

we’re curious to get your thoughts on how to modify it.”

Marilyn shifted the topic. Samantha, a bit bewildered, looked up after taking a sip of

her drink. Her mind was still not entirely clear.

“I wonder, Ms. Meadows, could you accompany me to my friend’s place now? I know you’re leaving for your country tomorrow,” Marilyn requested.

With a light laugh, Kendrick agreed on Samantha’s behalf. He made it sound as

though it was a simple matter.

Samantha dazedly got into Marilyn’s car. Meanwhile, Kendrick’s two heavily drunk

assistants got into Kendrick’s car. They quickly disappeared from Samantha’s sight.

“I thought Mr. Ford would come with us,” Marilyn’s voice carried a hint of

amusement.

“I’m just his secretary. If it’s to escort you home, Mr. Ford would probably be more than willing.”

“You have such a way with words. But I’ve heard Mr. Ford isn’t a good person.

Haven’t you ever considered changing jobs?”

Although Marilyn’s face still held a smile, Samantha felt as though she was a

different person.

Without any additional conversation, Marilyn had indeed brought her to a villa.

The elderly housekeeper attentively prepared soup for her. He wore a sincere smile.

on his face,

“Perhaps having some soup will settle your stomach a bit.”

Suppressing the churning in her stomach, Samantha softly thanked him. She sipped the soup while waiting for the arrival of the homeowner.

Rather than staying here for an extended period, she would rather endure her

fatigue and complete the task sooner.

“Gosh, Ms. Meadows, I have to handle some matters. Please wait here. I will return in

an hour.”

Marilyn left in a hurry after answering a call.

Then, only Samantha and the old housekeeper were left in the living room.

With nothing else to do, Samantha rubbed her sore eyes and unlocked her phone.

She read Kendrick’s text.

“Where are you?”

Puzzled by Kendrick’s message, Samantha recalled the house number and sent it to him. The housekeeper also served her a Black Forest cake and kindly provided the specific address of the place.

Samantha managed to eat only two mouthfuls of cake. Then, Kendrick replied.

“Don’t leave Marilyn’s side.”

Samantha’s heart sank when she read that. She hurriedly stood up. It made her lightheaded.

Kendrick’s text came in again, “Marilyn’s sister has been kidnapped.”

Samantha’s surroundings began to spin. The housekeeper who was nearby supported her shoulders. His smile faded from his face.
