NightTide: The Girl With Red Eyes

Chapter I Didn't Want This!

I enjoyed seeing her scared, I don’t know why; but I couldn’t stand seeing what happened after. I couldn’t do anything I had to watch them get whatever information she had. I don’t care that she tried to kill me she didn’t deserve that, they just kept hitting her over and over again. They weren’t acting like the Kayla and Owen I’ve been around for the past several months.

I couldn’t take it, I ended up telling at the Pathfinder “Can’t you make them stop!?”

He sighed at me, like he was disappointed. “I don’t expect you to be happy about this, it needs to be done. She knows where that creature came from.”

I didn’t care if she knew, there was blood everywhere. “She’s going to die, you can’t get information from a corpse! Please just stop this I can try!”

He stood up from his seat and looked through the glass. “I don’t know if we have that time. Those things could attack at any time and we can’t see them…… I suppose we can try testing with thermal vision now.”

He was standing there, it’s like he was trying to decide to keep torturing someone. I thought they were good people, but if they are going to resort to this.

I was getting ready to yell at him but he pushed the button. “That’s enough you two! Step out of the room and to my office!” He yelled at them… Why did his tone change? He didn’t seem to care before but now he’s yelling at them. He let go of the button and looked down at me. “I’ll give you a chance, they went overboard and will be disciplined for it. If you can get the information before their probation is over then we won’t have to resort to this again.” He shoved me to the side and walked away, I saw Owen and Kayla following close behind.

I saw in silence for a moment, for the first time in a while I was left alone… Then it hit me that she was still in the room, I ran in there to see and she unconscious on the ground. She was covered in blood and it looked like her fingers were broken. I wasn’t sure what to do but I grabbed the towel in the room and tried wiping the blood off her face. It was the first time I’d had a good look at her. Didn’t look much older than me, her hair was stained red with blood, I couldn’t see her eyes; they were swollen shut.

Then I heard the door open, it startled me, I ended up falling over trying to turn around. It was just two doctors, they had a stretcher. They just walked over and put her on it, one of them asked for the towel and put it over her face. I followed them out of the room, we got to an empty room. They sat her on the bed in there and then just walked out and shut the door behind them.

She was lying there, at least she was breathing. I looked at her hands, the fingers were bent in directions they shouldn’t be. Two of them were missing fingernails. Then I heard a click and the door opened, another doctor walked in.

He seemed worried and looked at me. “You, you’re supposed to be watching her right?” did the Pathfinder also want me to do that? I didn’t know but I went ahead and nodded in agreement. “Good, I’m going to need your help. Dammit those two went overboard. Can you hold her still I’m going to relocate her bones, I’m not authorized to give her anesthetic so it’s going to hurt.”

I he pointed for me to put my hands on her shoulders, I looked at heard and several cracking noises. She may a few noises but I think she was really out of it. He patted my shoulder and walked out of the room. I looked at her hands, he fixed her fingers and it looks like he left several bandages behind, I remember they wrapped these around my head. There was a bathroom in here, I went and got a wet paper towel and wiped off the blood. Put bandaged wherever I found cuts. By the end of it her arms were covered and along with her right eye. There weren’t very many cuts on her ankles so I think they were only hitting around her face and stomach. Later that same doctor walked with tiny splints and put them on her fingers, he didn’t say anything and walked out again.

I sat in the chair next to the bed, I wasn’t sure what to do. I noticed my hands were shaking. How could I have felt happiness, it was disgusting. I don’t like hurting people and seeing her get hurt is was made me realize how bad that situation was. They said I wasn’t human, I don’t feel any different from the people around me. Yet when it comes right and wrong I now feel like their skewing what is really right. Maybe I’m the one who’s wrong… But the Pathfinder didn’t seem happy about it either, what if they know it’s wrong but choose to do it anyways? Or what if it was Owen and Kayla and not the rest of them, he said they were being punished for it… I’ll have to wait till I see them again to find out.

She coughed but didn’t do much else. It was quiet, I didn’t hear any noise from the hallways for once, I just heard breathing. I started to feel tired but I couldn’t sleep, not here. I tried standing up and walking around, it worked for a bit but I felt tired when I sat down again. I tried getting up and walking around more, it eventually turned into pacing. I decided to sit down and again and almost immediately fell asleep.

I woke hearing a noise, I tried jumping up but almost fell back over. It took me a minute to wake up but when I could right she was trying to get the door open. She looked terrified, she kept pound on the door and I tried pulling her away from, it wasn’t that hard to pull her off it. She felt weaker than the first time we met. She was flailing around screaming for me to let her go. I sat her down on the bed and tried telling her to calm down, she wasn’t listening and I ended up smacking her. She stopped yelling.

I felt bad. “I’m sorry, I need you to stay calm.” She just stared at me, almost like she was in shock.

It looked like she was going to scream but she didn’t. “H-how are you alive? I killed you?!”

I smiled a little when she said, it made me feel a bit stronger. I lifted my pant leg and showed her the brace. “Not quite, I’m not that easy to put down.” Why did I feel the need to be friendly with her? I guess I’ve haven’t not been friendly before so maybe it’s just my nature.
