Chapter 19: •The truth•
Quinn:
"He-he chased her out of the parish when he found out she was pregnant and threatened to kill her if she should tell anyone of it". Her voice broke.
Instinctively, my hand reached out to hers that were clasped together on the counter, placing it over hers to comfort her.
"She gave birth to me and took care of me all by herself. She had no one to support her as an orphan". She drew in a ragged breath, before continuing. "Growing up wasn't easy. We did everything we could to survive". Tears filled her eyes.
Her sad tale pricked my heart but I listened intently, not wanting to interrupt her.
"Mom struggled to send me to school and after I finished high school, she was going to send me to college but I stopped her. I couldn't let her pass through the pain and suffering all alone. I assured her I was going to find a way to do it. Yet she wouldn't let it be". Tears were now flowing freely from her eyes that were focused on the counter. "When I got to eighteen years of age, she sat me down and told me everything about the priest. I hated him so much. I wanted to take my revenge on him. That was how I started working at the parish as a nun, gradually planning ways to take him down".
By now, she was full-on crying. Standing from my seat, I went over to her and wrapped my arms around her while she cried into my chest. After a while, her sobs subsided. She pulled away from me, taking her
seat.
"I'm sorry you have to pass through all this in the hands of that monster".
"He sent those men to kill me when he caught me. I don't know how he found out I'd been investigating him".
"He doesn't deserve to live". I gritted out, meaning every word.
"I helped you escape because I wanted to get back at him". She sniffed.
"And I'm fucking grateful for that, honey. I need to take him down".
"H-how?"
"You".
She stared into my eyes with furrowed brows. Instinctively, my hand shot out to clean the tears from her cheeks. Her eyes darted to my fingers on her cheek before moving back to my eyes.
"I need to get back at him and the general that sold me to him".
"And I'm supposed to be the bait?"
"Not really, but yes".
"What do you mean?". She narrowed her eyes at me, studying me carefully.
"We have a common enemy and they both think we're dead. Let's play ghost baby". I winked.
A breathtaking smile graced her face at my words.
"How exactly do you intend to do whatever you have in mind when you leave here," she gestured to our environment. "In the middle of nowhere" She added.
"Let me worry about that. Are you in?"
I placed my arms on the counter, caging her between them with my eyes boring holes into hers.
She nodded her head frantically, smiling.
"I'm in".
Good. I thought to myself.
I stayed there, still staring at her, mesmerized by her beauty. The urge to kiss her was becoming unbearable but I pulled away, striding towards the bathroom for a cold shower.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
