Chapter 13: The werewolf leader
The Werewolf Leader
I get in my car and arrive at the designated store. I go inside.
“Are you a vampire? This is no place for your kind! Don’t intrude on our territory!”
The werewolves in the store all stare at me. To make them feel my presence, I unleash my aura, in a kind of display to show off my status as a founder. I have to show that I was more than just a common vampire; otherwise, I would be perceived as a threat.
This is where Leonardo comes in.
“You don’t have to put on the aura so strongly,” he says. “The people here aren’t that hostile to vampires, so just be normal. Some of them will be scared, if you let off such a strong presence.”
“I see, my bad.”
I reply and pull back on my aura. Then, I get down to business.
“So? Are you going to tell me how this happened?”
“It’s exactly what you’re thinking. A leadership battle.”
“We’re not interested nor concerned about your leadership, but it disturbs us when you get so unruly. Can’t you do it more quietly? We wouldn’t want our true identities to be revealed.”
Leonardo lets out a loud sigh.
“Yes, I’m sure that’s true, but it seems that some of the guys are unhappy with the leader. So they caused a ruckus in frustration. Some humans have already fallen victim. I tried to stop them, and this is what happened. I knew I was outnumbered, but I couldn’t ignore someone who was about to be attacked, right in front of me.”
Then he turns his head downwards.
“So? What does the leader say now? If you keep going on like this, you’ll be discovered sooner or later.”
“... the leader was killed. There is no leader now.”
I’m speechless. Attacking the pack leader… No. I’ve never heard of something like this before.
“There is a fight for the next leader. Those who attacked the previous one are the militants who want more humans to eat. Over here, we don’t want to eat people that badly, we have plenty to eat for now. And we’re content with that.”
“Well, once you get a taste of something good, you can’t go back.”
Leonardo, who seemed to be smiling a little, speaks again.
“And since humans have been supplying us with the bodies of the condemned for centuries, it’s not as if we can’t eat them.”
I think. The absence of a leader is not a good situation. We definitely need someone here to keep the people under control.
"Leonardo. You should be the leader.”
“That’s what my friends here have been telling me. I want to maintain the same partnership with the humans as before, and I don’t care if they call me a coward. The survival of our race is more important.”contemporary romance
“Leonardo. I believe you are the right person for the job. We need to get along with humans. Least history repeats itself, we can’t let another witch hunt happen again. I’m going to leave, and I’ll have to use the founder’s power. But it will be a quicker solution.”
“I’m sorry… That we have to seek the help of another race to solve our problems… when we really should be doing it ourselves…”
Leonardo’s expression is grim. Surely, they must have discussed this many times. But the outcome is more dire now.
“It’s okay. This is better for us, too, so don’t worry about it. The current situation is endangering us vampires, too. You can rely on me.”
If there are human casualties, the police will act, that’s a given. Our existence is top secret, only a few bigwigs could know about us. This is called coexistence. If this balance is broken, we’ll be back in the dark ages.
This is no joking matter!
It is natural that the police will move if humans are harmed.
“Come on. Now, let’s pay respects to the potential leader of this ‘militant’ faction.”
Leonardo then contacts the other leader on the spot.
