Chapter Seven
Amelia felt chills swept over her body, when she saw the two lawyers Ethan had sent.
How could he do this to her? She never knew he could be so wicked. For goodness sake, she was in the hospital because she was pregnant for his child and didn't care. He still sent his lawyers to bring the divorce papers to her at the hospital.
This was too much! This is not the man she knew. Or had he been hiding this side of him from her?
"Madam we are sorry for not putting your heath condition in thought but we are acting according to Mr Greg's orders. I do hope you understand" The lawyer said, apologically.
She nodded with a stiff smile. It wasn't their faults anyways. Ethan was the one to blame for this.
"I understand. Where are the papers?" Since he really wanted her out of his life, she wouldn't force herself on him. She would rather leave with dignity, than to be humiliated and forced to leave. Besides, she didn't want to make things difficult for the lawyers who were just acting on his words.
No matter what happens in the future, she would be able to face it. She would as well take the step.
The lawyers handed the paper over to her. She took it and began to read through it carefully. Ethan was a cunny and witty businessman. He might add a clause that might make her regret in future.
When she was almost done reading it, her phone rang. She took the phone. Her eyes gazed at the caller and she was taken aback.
"Hello" She picked the phone and placed it on her ear.
"Are the lawyers there already?"
"Yes they are" She answered, drily.
"Please don't drag this on for too long. Sign those papers and don't make things any more difficult. And as for the pregnancy, since you claimed it's mine, we would go for a DNA test soon" He said and hung up the phone.
Her heart ached terribly. He wants to run a DNA test on the child to check if it was his, that would be very humiliating and she wouldn't let that happen.
Right now, she really can't help but hate his guts. She would just sign the papers and let him go.
She stretched her hand out and a pen was placed in it. She quickly scribble her signature on the papers and handed it over to them.
They left after taking the papers.
This was it.
"Mom, he got her pregnant" A sobbing voice said. Madison was so heart broken when she had the news, so she called her mother.
"Got who pregnant?"
"Amelia, she is pregnant. That was why she fainted"
"How did she manage to get pregnant, after everything we had done"
"I don't know mum, i honestly don't know. And right now, i am confused. What are we going to do?"
"Calm down, dear. Don't cry anymore. This is not a time to cry. We have to come up with a plan. We can't possibly let her give birth to his child, right?"
"No Mom. But what can we do? She is already with his child Mom. Do you know how this could affect us in future, if more people find out?"
"Of course i do, dear. That's why we need to plan carefully. If we let her give birth to his child, it would be very risky. What if the child is a male? He would become his first son and would automatically be the next successor of the Greg's family. And if you eventually give birth to a male child, the child would be his junior and won't have a chance to get much of the family property"
"That can't happen!"
"It can if we let her have her way. If the child is female, she might gain the love of the family and even Ethan. She might even get the lion share. And even though you should give birth to children for him, your kids might grow up to have a strong opponent. All in all, if the Greg's family finds out she is pregnant, do you think you might still have a chance?"
Madison took a while to digest all what her mother had said. She wiped her face with her palm. "What should i do to prevent this, Mom?" "If you are ready, then i would tell you"
"I am more than ready to do anything to make sure she doesn't get in my way"
"Good. This is what you should do.........."
A day later.
Once again, Amelia opened her eyes after more than twenty four hours. She turned towards the window, to see the sun radiating outside.
"Is it afternoon yet?" She puzzled as she attempted to get up. An excruciating pain, shoot through her abdomen, more painful and worser than before. "Ouch!" She yelped in pain and returned to her lying position.
She looked at the clock, which was hanged on the wall. Did she sleep for such a long time?
And why was she in so much pain?" I thought this pain was beginning to reduce yesterday" She thought outloud.
Just then, her stomach grumbled loudly, as if it was trying to inform her she hasn't feed it. She rubbed her stomach and heaved a sighed.
"I am really being very careless. I should try to live healthy or risk my baby's life" she reprimanded herself.
Her attention was drifted to the door when it was pushed open.
She saw the smiling, female nurse walking in, holding a paper bag.
"How are you?" The nurse greeted.
"I am doing fine, nurse" She replied and tried to sit up on the bed.
"No, no no no. You shouldn't get up. You need rest at a time like this" The nurse urged and supported her to lie down again.
"Are you hungry?" She asked keeping the paper bag on the table.
"Yes, sorry i slept off when you went to buy the food this morning"
"This morning?" The nurse repeated with a strange expression.
"Yes. You said you wanted to go buy food for me this morning" She tried to remind the nurse, as she thought she might have forgotten or something. The nurse froze for a moment. " Please, hmmm" She trialed off. She wanted to call her name but remembered she didn't even know her name. "Amelia Pearls." Amelia helped out.
"Yes, Amelia. Please there is something i really want to tell you" The nurse sat beside her.
"Go on" she urged.
"Please you have to be strong for yourself. This is not the end" She gave a start.
Amelia creased her brows, bitting her lips. With the way this nurse was sounding, a bad feeling grow in her guts.
"Nurse, please tell me, what is wrong?" She asked, anxiously. What other bad thing could happen to her right now? "Please calm down"
"I am calm. Please talk" She said.
"The food i bought for you, was eaten by my colleagues yesterday"
"Yesterday? But the day hasn't even ended" She questioned. Her anxiousness heighten.
"No it's no longer yesterday. You fainted yesterday and you are just waking up now" The nurse explained, looking at her intently.
She fainted again? She had thought she had fallen asleep in the morning and was just waking up by afternoon. But it turned out that she had fainted.
The nurse took hold of one of her hand, caressing it gently, " please, promise me that no matter what I say, you would be strong for yourself"
"Nurse I have always been a strong woman, matter what i go through" she reassured and then added. " Please tell me"
The nurse stared at her for a while and heaved a deep sigh.
No matter how strong a woman might be, she would stagger when hit by such a thing......
"You lost the child, when you fainted"
